It just doesn't feel right to me at all, so the first few games never happened? It was all fiction? They're were really 52 other killing games? I'm so mind fucked right now you don't understand.
To be fair I don't blame him. He was going to die if he didn't do anything. But he ended up dying anyway. I wish the game would have ended at that point with Monokuma being unable to pass judgement. Kaito could have still died for the emotional impact but it would have been a much cooler ending instead of the other shit we got.

What went wrong?
Chaos;Child is nice with a focus on a serial murder mystery, but it's pretty much full VN. Your only input is some really straightforward segments where you detail the case so far on a map of the city, and on repeat runs after seeing the main route's ending, those map segments as well as the daydreams and nightmares you choose to see will sometimes put you on different character-focused routes where the plot develops in totally different ways from that point on, or sometimes lead to bad endings.

Yes, DR is fictional even in it's own universe, the ending retroactively ruined the rest of the series. Danganronpa was a mistake. At least it wasn't as bad as the Zero Escape ending I guess.

Were you even paying attention? DR 1+2 and the rest of the Hope's Peak Saga were video games and anime. They were regular fiction, not Real Ultimate Fiction. V3 doesn't effect them at all.

Well that's going to suck. I actually enjoyed V3 being separated from DR1 and 2 (for most part)
It's a sequel, but pretty much anything you need to know from Chaos;Head is naturally explained in Chaos;Child in its own mystery. The events of C;H aren't heavily connected or spoiled at all, and the only recurring character was a minor one in both. You can play it fine on its own.
As for whether you should read Chaos;Head, I like it because the MC is a miracle of the universe and the horror-esque tension and atmosphere are great, but be wary it does somewhat go off the rails around the halfway point with some of its more supernatural elements and if you're looking for a murder mystery that's not what it really offers. The only English version that currently exists is also the PC one, which is missing content the console versions, Chaos;Head Noah, added. So if you want to play C;H, you may want to hold off on that to see if C;H Noah gets an official western release after C;C, or if fans translate one of the Noah releases. As you've been told, the anime is a bad adaptation.
