>Unique and charming art-style helmed by Sawaki Takeyasu (Devil May Cry, Okami, Fatal Frame 4)
>Interesting subject matter tackled in a such way that it doesn't veer into either preachy territory or full-blown fedora tipping territory
>Notable cast of actors in both English (Jason Isaacs, Christopher Obi) and Japanese (Shinichiro Miki, Ryusei Nakao)
>Promoted adequately, being featured several times at E3, Gamescom and TGS
>Well-received critically

Why do it flop so badly even by the standards of fairly niche Japshit? It reportedly only made back around a tenth of the budget, with Ignition seeing so little in the IP afterwards that they let Takeyasu buy it back with his own money.

No one? Shame.

As much as I loved this game, it was incomprehensible. And unfinished. Apparently there are data books or some other typical Jap shit that continue the story, but playing the game itself doesn't lead to a satisfying conclusion.

Still, a lot of its visuals really stuck with me, and it stands out as a unique, niche game. I think it's easy to see why this game didn't achieve commercial success, as much as I wish otherwise.

It was too weird for this world.

Glad I grabbed it when the grabbing was good.

Should have released it on PC

>their new game is a first person dungeon crawler

for what purpose

This. It was a bit up its own ass but at least it was something different.

Budget. After the failure of the original one, no way that Kadokawa were gonna give him a bag of money substantial enough to do another risky AA action game. An above-average SMT clone is a much safer investment.

Kaneko's doing some guest demon designs for it btw

It being SMT clone and having Kaneko design major demons as guest designs is the only reason why I even care.
Any chance of SMT5 to have FEATURING ENOCH FROM EL SHADDAI SERIES?

no problem

everything's fine

*snap*

Reminder that its sequel is being localized later this year (or early next year I forgot the exact date)

It was a high-risk project in an era of low-risk IPs. I thought it was amazing, but I also bought it on sale.

It didn't flop.
the lose child came out and is a bunch of thematic continuances from el shaddai. Go play it.

Yes, early next year. Sadly it's being done by NISA, but I guess that's preferable to not getting it at all.

Wasn't cute enough.
Beautiful game though.

>Enoch is still around
>Modern day Japan
>Satan
Okay, what?
What the hell is going on and will we get a English release?

This what I get for not looking at gematsu for a year.

It's being """localized""" by NISA so I fully expect massive amounts of censorship, bugs and straight up Google Translation.
It also doesn't have a vocal cult fanbase like Ys games so they won't even try to unfuck it like with Ys8.

We want SMT audience.

>Well-received critically

Critics agreed that it was pretty but played like ass

>tfw NISA did such a bad job with Strangers from Sword City that Kadokawa released the expansion pack without NISAs influence
That still gets my goat to this day.

Is the expansion pack available on PC and does it include the base game retranslated?

No, it's Vita and PS4 only.
PC users got cucked.

That's fine too, but does it include base game retranslated?
Also what's this new Xbone version?

>Take a creative looking game and make the most uncreative looking sequel ever

What did Kadokawa mean by this?

>Speaking of male depictions, it interests me that El Shaddai does not resort to the eye-rolling female character stereotypes that Japanese games often unfortunately fall back upon, choosing to depict handsome and occasionally sparsely-clad men rather than women whose clothes disappear when they perform a magic spell. "A lot of Japanese gamers don't have girlfriends," offers Sawaki as an explanation. "They've got a crooked way of looking at women, that's probably why you get these depictions. Me, though, I have a wonderful girlfriend," he grins.

Are you sure that's enough armor?

i bought it a while because i really liked the demo. still haven't played it.
