Speedrunning is a soul crushing hobby. Your favorite game turns into a job. You lose all enjoyment out of it, just so you can say you beat it the fastest out of anyone in the world.
autism
fucking this OP
no matter how much you like something, want to do something or are good at something there will always be a bigger faggot with MORE autism than you. Just deal w/it. I tried speed running one time and it was my first and last, shit is just too autistic and gay desu senpai
t. baddie
It's about having the autistic mentality of not getting tired of repeating the same thing over and over
Look at the people who are famous for doing it. Don't you notice a common theme in personality? Do you think you are on that particular spectrum? How shitty is your life that you think you're part of that?
They don't do speedrunning for fun, they are literally broken people. They existed before the Internet, people good at tedious nonsense; only the web let them all know they existed to each other and now the trannies and failures can meet up in college meeting rooms to see who can half press their way through Faxanadu the fastest for no prize, just autism.
I think it can be fun to learn how to break certain parts of a game and that can be it's own reward, I also just like the idea of doing a new game of a game I really like in a single hour or two long sitting. Ultimately? It can elevate your level of skill in a certain game to make you better at it.
>watching a guy narrate a speedrun of Zelda 2 on this Twitch featured stream
To dedicate this much time to memorizing Zelda 2, what the hell.
There is a reason speed runners are know for being autistic.
speedrunning should be an esport with prize pools n shiet
>No prize
A lot of them make good money on it though?
>Broken people because they are not bothered by something that is only a hindrance in daily life
Nigger wut? How is not going stircrazy over doing repetitive tasks a negative trait in any capacity?
Just sounds like a whole lot of sour grapes in this thread
>I couldn't possibly do this so the people that can must be crazy somehow!
Sad.
stream it so you have people to talk to
how else do you think people do thousands of attempts
you say its autism and yet every other competitive format practice all the time. I think you're forming some sort of bias here because SGDQ brings all the awkward people
Highest tier sports people are also rarely well-adjusted normal people. In fact high performance in just about any field comes with quirks, it's almost like humanity is an extremely diverse bunch and trying to draw lines in the sand on what is normal is actually ridiculous.
I heard learning how to do glitches and practicing them can be fun, once you've done that you do a couple runs and see where you need more practice and keep practicing and improving times.
Most of the fun gotten from speedrunning is from watching your pb lower.
>It's ok when athletes do it!
I didn't say its not ok
It's almost like working towards a goal with steady progress is inherently satisfying :^)
When you're practicing a sport or even competitive eSport games, you at least find yourself in different scenarios. Speedrunning is just autistically playing and replaying a game hundreds or potentially thousands of times just to try to consistently make the same exploits happen to shave seconds off your end time until someone discovers a major new method for time saving, which will still require so much time to consistently pull off
>you say its autism and yet every other competitive format practice all the time
The difference is that with any other form of competition, the match itself can be different than any other. It’s not entirely based around running a single (long) command over and over so that you can go execute that command again.
I hope I’m getting my point across because I was trying to be brief. Either way, someone being skilled at something like Spelunky is WAY more impressive than someone being the fastest at [insert favorite game], because there’s so many factors that can change and a player’s developing skill within that environment
>Running a marathon is different every time
user, please. While there are many diverse sports where what you claim is true, the fact is that there is also a fuck ton of sports where you see the exact same repetitive bullshit as you do in speedrunning.
How did I fucking know you’d bring up marathon running, as if that’s a decent analogy. Go on believing it man. If you can’t see my argument’s validity already, you’re not worth the time.
Go to twitch or youtube old twitch world record runs. Tell me that's not autism. Literally every big speedrunner is on the spectrum.
Surely people don’t run marathons for reasons other than to be first, hmm?
Depends on the game and how perfect a run you want. There are plenty of games that are not very competitive due to lack of popularity or games that allow lots of error without expense at your time. If you're running something like an old JRPG and refuse to eat bad RNG, then yeah, it's gonna eat you up. Playing something Crash Bandicoot and you die once or twice but put up an otherwise good satisfactory run, then good for you
Literally the first person you replied to said nothing about autism.
Super Mario 64 is amazingly fun to watch once LBLJ and the early game run killers are gone. Most of the top record holders for nostalgic games make tons of dosh but the rest that don't for few viewers? must be masochism and autism, they've got nothing in their lives.
You have to have sever autism and be a NEET if you want to be anywhere near successful.
The whole speed running community is just a magnet for autism. Even if you aren’t and somehow enjoy speedrunning, why would you want to get involved with those people? Just watch any GDQ and picture yourself there. Sounds like hell to me
TAS > Regular speedruns
Timed challenges are okay if the game supports them but self-imposed one are pure autism.
t. Someone who has unlocked all menu musics in Cave Story.
>speedrun super metroid only every now and then
>can get 1:41 game time
Feelsgood
I need a new scene to watch besides speedrunning. very fun runners or games hold my interest anymore
Just listen to podcasts
What is happening in this picture? I don’t get it
...
Footfags are worse than diaperfurs and unbirth, only futa is shittier.
Ah. Goes to show how little of a shit I give about feet
remove footfags
>only futa is shittier
Bait!
Except no other competitive format is solely based around optimal execution. Even fighting games, the majority of training is learning how to combat opponents, to an extent it improves social skills because you become better equated with the psyche of your opponent. In other formats there is some kind of cognitive process going on, speedrunning it entirely mindless, it is just about repeating repetitive actions until you luck a perfect run. To enjoy speedrunning you either have to be autistic or really fucking dumb.
Okay, I can get how you guys don't like speedrunning itself and how it cheeses through the game with glitches and stuff, but what the fuck is you guy's obession about the runners themselves? Literally every speedrunning thread devoid of any actual vidya discussion in leiu of spouting varitions of autists, autism and sperg. I thought this fucking board despises e-celebs but keeping up with the chair-sniffing and tranny drama is a-ok?
Fuck off
The only game I ever ‘speedran’ was pokemon Gale of Darkness (trying to get through it fast, just had to catch 1 thing to trade it to gba). Just sat with the WR run on youtube and followed it best I can. It was an interesting expereince, but I probably wouldn’t do it again.
Getting a world record puts you on a high above any drug or sex.
It's also brief and a destructive treadmill when some autismo outgrinds you into a miracle time you now have to beat to chase after that feeling again.
It's the worst fucking thing. Most crack from the pressure and end up selling out hard. Pic related.
>Except no other competitive format is solely based around optimal execution.
What is Chess ?
Autism and/or amphetamines
That is literally the dumbest answer you could have possibly said. Physically, where is the difficulty in the execution of moving a chess piece? Maybe for your crippled ass it's a struggle, but for most people chess is solely about reacting to your opponents movements.
>and end up selling out hard
How do you "sell out" as a speedrunner?
Weaponized autism. Anything taken to its limit is fascinating to watch.
