I wish I grew out of gaming at 16 when my friends did. Now I'm 24 and those friends who managed to quit gaming have great jobs, some have even started a family. And I only have a high school diploma and never worked a day in my life. I'm not saying its only gaming that fucked me, but gaming addiction is at least 60% responsible for me dropping out of college and becoming a neet.

Real talk, I think playing so much vidya during my formative years has shortened my attention span and made it more difficult to apply myself to long-term tasks like school or passion projects.

That being said, vidya isn't any different from any other repeatable entertainment. Addictive personalities will always find something to do in excess, whether it's vidya or something else. Vidya is only a scapegoat for the boomers because it's new, they didn't grow up with it, and so it's easy to lay the "blame" on that for generational differences.

That's because the vast majority of gamers are.
