Persona

>Games with sub-par social-sim mechanics, horribly jilted and contrived character arcs and scooby-doo plot became the most well received JRPG franchise in the West

How did it come to this?

Was it ironic weeb girls?

I swear everyone who plays this game is autistic.

Every single thread is "I want to [funny/sexual word] character" and it's the same people spamming it daily

Novelty value.

I swear sixty percent of the fanbase is female.

>implying the girls ever played the games and didnt just watch the animes

Don't flatter yourself. The girls play the games too. Ironic weeb girls love the Persona series and need to be raped.

>and need to be raped.

As an "ironic weeb girl", what do you mean by this?

>As an "ironic weeb girl"

what did he mean by this?

I seriously can't understand how a man would """play""" this piece of shit that take's 1 and a half hour to give you your first battle. It's like an unfunny generic high school anime, no great characters, no comedy, and no fanservice.

My sister loves Persona games tough. Dunno why.

user is horny, don't mind him.

Corrective rape fix bad female behaviours, like for example, pretending to like something to beg for beta males attention. Rape would fix that in three minutes.

>I don't like reading.

the gameplay is simplified and similar to pokemon, more so than mainline SMT.

DREAMS OF BUTT FRY

Sex sells, it's that simple. Weebs/otaku like to self-insert as Chad and be able to seduce every female with very little effort.

>ironic anything
don't care if bait, kill yourself

Persona 4 is the only good game from that series, anyway. The rest all have fatal flaws.

>most well received JRPG franchise in the West
No, that's still Final Fantasy

Compare the reception of FFXV to P5.

FFXV doesn't make the billion other FF games suddenly suck. Persona 5 wasn't that great on its own anyway.

Japanese daily life is novel enough to westerners to intrigue, yet similar enough to be relatable.

There's not really much more to these games beyond that. The character development is, as you say, fucking terrible.

>How did it come to this?
It's good despite it's obvious flaws, I suppose. I don't really like the social side, but otherwise I think it handles itself pretty well.
Wouldn't really put it in my top twenty, but I very much love the series.

>The character development is, as you say, fucking terrible.

It's terrible because of its gamified element, funnily enough. Turns the whole thing into a chore to reach the next "level".

>Music
>Artstyle
>Gameplay
>Story for 1-3
>Characters for 2 and 3
>Sim tycoon
I really liked them, when compared to most RPGs, the fall flat. Hell, FbW ended up being my favorite RPG of the year beating out P5 and DQ8. Japan is really shit at writing for the most part.

There isn't a single Persona game that has had a plot equal to even one of the less enjoyable Final Fantasy games. Even XII is more enjoyable.

Fuck you c2switch. Fucking whore.

For me, the social sim mechanic really helped invest me into the conflict of the characters, more so than other games. It didn't need huge overwhelming character changes or world shatter plots since it was about normal people put into fantastical situations. The same sort of applies to 1-2 but without the social sim I felt more invested in the 3-4-5 casts even if 2 had better characters from a writing perspective. Also helps that everyone game is so fucking stylish, from the character designs to the music everything just breathes personality to invest you into the game

I disagree, the social links/confidants generally have the best character moments, it's the linear static storylines that are terrible. e.g. Ryuji, likeable at first and also likeable in his confidant but the game turns him into the buttmonkey.

Who's the fag to the left of Yu?

But it essentially breaks the fourth wall. It turns every NPC character interaction into some sort of elaborate 10-stage, carefully segmented, explicitly broken-down process.

It just feels so nauseatingly contrived as a result. Give me the standard "reach an inn and listen to some exposition" any day above that garbage.

Millennial girls love this shit though.

I said nothing of profit.

His left or your left?
Persona Trinity Soul MC, I think.

JRPGs with contemporary settings are pretty rare and Persona/SMT is really the only one whose actually done it outside of Earthbound and TWEWY.
It has an attractive style to it and the heavy emphasis on character stuff (the weeb part) only adds to the appeal, maybe not for you, but it has an audience.

Why does it have such a large female fanbase?

Did she do something in the Persona community? I remember her from anime twitter but she seemed like a normalfag.

We don't talk about him.

>sub-par social-sim mechanics
Is there any game that actually has GOOD social sim mechanics?

>story that shit all over western releases
>streamlined SMT gameplay with easy mode
>social sim aspect appeals to basic human instincts
>likable and distinctable characters
>S.Link system make you care about said characters even more

The strenght of Persona after 3 is that it appeals to both turbo autists and crazy normalfags.

Personally I think people like the series for the wrong reasons but let's not get into the pretentious territory.

Vilja mod on Skyrim.

Lonely people want to pretend like they have friends.
Look at the success of streamers.

Ironic weebs are part of it for sure, but another part of it is just that the games are good.

>how a man would """play""" this piece of shit that take's 1 and a half hour to give you your first battle

It manages to captivate you with story, atmosphere and characters. There are shit ton of games that take a long time to start besides persona out there, some taking more than 2hrs. Sorry you are autistic and can't focus for more than 15 minutes and need to frantically press buttons in order to get your brain stimulated with constant explosions to enjoy a video game.

What are games with good social sim mechanics? I live up North with almost nobody and need it. Pls respond. If not I'm getting the persona games

I don't think there are any. Persona's are good for telling side-stories, they're just not good if you want a social sim.

>awesome and unique aesthetics
>undeniably the best OST in a video game since Ocarina of Time
>literally pokemon with waifus

>"why is it so popular you guise??"

Besides Persona you mean? Danganronpa has it in between the trials. You can hang out with characters to get to know more about them, and if you manage to complete all their free time events fully, you can unlock skills to use for the class trials.

>literally pokemon with waifus
It's not though?

Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, and Viva la Pianta. They all have social sim elements but vary wildly from persona

doesn't apply to the left half of that image though.

Persona actually does do it pretty well, not so much in emulating conversation, find a visual novel or Animal Crossing or something for that, but it can tell a good side story through 1 on 1 dialogue and it isn't all waifu stuff like people on Sup Forums claim, for example the Sun Arcana in Persona 3 is done very well.

She fucked over my friend.

>S.Link system make you care about said characters even more

Imagine what a brainlet you have to be to empathize with any character in Persona lol. They're literally stock archetypes with 10 clearly segmented "character progression points".

>Pokémon with waifus
>Best OST in a video game since Ocarina of Time
C'mon, I like Persona and SMT too, but when you say dumb shit like that no one's gonna take your opinion seriously.

>it isn't all waifu stuff like people on Sup Forums claim
Almost none of it is waifu stuff for that matter. So much so that I would have expected them to expand on the dating mechanics at this point and also so much so that I have no clue why fans of the game latch onto their waifus so much. I can understand people who don't like the game accusing it of being waifutrash for virgins because it's an easy insult, but fans of the game liking it for that always surprises me.

This is why I like it, relationship building with all the characters is really fun

Thanks anons, it gets lonely up here

>go outside of your town into the "wild" (dungeons) to capture creatures with various elemental movesets with type-counters that you use to fight enemies in a turn-based combat system
>not pokemon

>none of it is waifu stuff
>90 of the opposite slinks ends up with MC fucking the other person
Hmmm.

The whole point of Pokemon is to go on an adventure, collect Pokemon, and defeat gym leaders. Persona has none of those.

And now compare all of the other features, instead of generalised examples.
It's hardly that similar outside of both games having some form of monster collection and being turn based.

you have an compendium (POKEDEX) that lists every demon (MONSTER) you collect. stop denying facts to make Persona look like it has deep gameplay.

What does it have to do with it being like Pokemon? You are trying way too hard.
Even SMT is more like Pokemon because there are actually towns and shit.

It's a girl gamer game and a big favorite of cosplayers.

>Was it ironic weeb girls?
No, only people who have little experience with JRPGs or weebs in general.

>90 of the opposite slinks ends up with MC fucking the other person
Yeah, and it amounts to about five very short romance scenes with whoever that person is. I'm not denying that you can date them, that's why I said almost none of it is waifu stuff because almost none of it is.

Exactly, the romance scenes are, at least in terms of writing, low-end VN tier and feel awkward and out of place, yet apparently Persona has amazing characters.

I don't think they feel awkward or out of place, they're a natural extension to the S. Link system, there's just almost no substance to the romance aspect of it.

>Aigis hiding behind P3MC

Meguro is a very very good composer. One of the best imo.

You guys should be playing Yukiko Anahi’s new game.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=97ZP8XaYYUY

Not denying that, he is a monster in the field, but between OoT and P5's release, there were tons of OSTs that were better than one or both of them.
