For Honor

DaSs is really average. The basic gameplay is rolling, attacking, and weapon ranges .. Beyond that, backstab animations with invulnerability, and a few actual item abilities. Further critiques are possible with something such as simple feints and interactivity. There's a realism that benefits entertainment and absorption, through balancing quietness, creativity/depth, and concentration.
Mastering a game then looking at how deep / various it is, benefits from finding it so.

..Which is open sourced, BTW, as well as the other game.

How?
The simulation is relatively deep. Damage is multiplied by momentum, atacks are telegraphed and not automaticaly parried (if set to manual), projectiles respect somewhat accurate hitboxes, considering the scale of the battles.

It's pretty darn respectable and a golden sweetspot between simulation and action.

Ninja Spirit

the way attacks work is something I haven´t seen in other games, tho.

No ELEX snap-into-animation, just the attack´s hitbox and your positioning.

That and damage values making combat short, good feedback through animation, and amazing moveset variety:

"You don't like THIS spear´s heavy attack? Use the Partizan, or the Pike, or Ornstein´s!"
"Broadsword too basic? Try a Longsword!"
"Longsword too boring? Try a rapier!"
"Too many weapons to keep in mind? Get the Balder Side Sword, and never use another weapon again!"
It's great.

What other game has loot-level moveset variations, and attacks that arent baked in animation that slide the player into position?

Monster Hunter

Yeah, is there something other than that?

Preferably with plot progression, or at the very least not instance based.

Tried them, not really my style.

I don't think there is, honestly. There's been a number of Souls clones in the last few years, but none of them are that good. I really just want another Soulsborne game, maybe with a new setting, or a Bloodborne sequel.

shit sucks man.

Metroidvanias are the only other style of game whith diverse weapons and movesets, but those are only 2d.

Valdis Story
Urban Reign
Def Jam Fight For New York
Fight Night Round 3

>No ELEX snap-into-animation, just the attack´s hitbox and your positioning.
What?

>Valdis Story
Could've been much better. The early access community probably are to blame for some of the stupid decisions in that game.

It's not that bad of a choice when you're trying to avoid the obvious ones though.

Think games like Bam: A Ham and ELEX, when you do an attack, the character moves into an specific position arround the enemy before starting the animation, instead of executing the move then and there.

In Dark Souls an attack starts where you stand, when you press hit, with the exception of backstabs and grabs, and you're meant to position yourself properly.

BamHam does it because of the cinematic ass combat, and ELEX maybe because that's the limitations of thejanky ass, ill-designed animations. But both feel kinda shit in comparation to DS.

>sword kiddies

Morrowind

The gameplay is very simplistic though. Diversity is fine, but those posted points are still valid.

That and the skill ceiling is like Cathedral levels of high. Easy to get down pat, but I'd like to see someone solo and army on their own without a shield, or fuck, even with a shield only delays the inevitable. No horse, of course.

*catches your bullets in my hand*
*stares at them a second*
*throws them over shoulder*

psst

*teleports behind you*

don't f**ck with me, kid.

*grabs gun and bends it in the middle*

catch!

*watches as you stare down in disbelief*

pathetic.
*adjusts collar of black trenchcoat*
*walks into the sunset*

*it was a hologram*

Nioh, a game with actual good combat unlike Souls.

God Hand. You like combos? Create your own, faget.

who is this man?

*so was that*

ya mum

Megaman zero

Oni

Look, if I've played DS, and thought it was good, saying Nioh is "actually good", means that we're not likely to share either opinion. Besides, isn't it more arcade-y, with supers and shit?

Besides, no need to be so hostile about it, Nioh's on PC too :^)

A man who can't keep getting away with it

hologramception

I like Souls. I just realized the combat is kinda dookie imo. Nioh hit that spot for me tremendously. The combat has way more depth in the way of mechanics and shit you can pull off, but it's not full stylish action. Like DMC or NG.

its pretty common nowadays for games to have the player kind of teleport towards the enemy theyre attacking. i hate it, but when games dont have it i realize how shit i am at videogames

*teleports behind the real you*
*do my no hologram no more jutsu*
You got off lucky, kid. I'm feeling nice today. But just in case...
*glares at you*
*lifts you up by one arm and breaks it*
*drops you as you scream in agony*
Sorry kid but that's life...

time to shill, Exanima

It's probably beacuse they don't design the attacks well enough. If the combo string doesn't move forward appropiately, and is composed of diagonal slashes that start and end at the character's sides, they're gonna feel like shit, no mather how much they force things to congeal.

People will give me shit, but I'll say:

>Supor Robot Wars OG Saga Endless Frontier
>Muramasa

Those games are far from perfect, but while playing them I was grinding for the pure joy of getting into fights several hours into the game.

unfunny

and yet I still sometimes die when the boss hits where I was a second ago
