When does STALKER get good? I'm a few hours in and it's pretty bad so far. Did I waste my money?

Yep you fell for the s.t.a.l.k.e.r. is good meme

Stalker is meh
Should refund and pirate it because the money doesn’t go to the original devs

Some people like it some people don't. If you don't like it by the time you deliver the documents to the bar you probably won't like it.

I loved it from the getgo, but it's definitely not for everyone.

Youre in for a bad time, even tho I love the series, its really hard to get into, since the gameplay is harsh, the gunplay inst the best in the original, the map is really cunkly in SoC, also stay away from Clear Sky unless youre wiling to install the mod that fixes the faction wars

Are you stil stuck at the begening ?
You can bribe the guy at the bridge 500 to pass safely but the best alternative is to throw a couple grenades and kill the whole group so you get an AK and some ammo before you go to Garbage

Which one? SoC?
They're definitely not for everyone, but get better as you start to understand their quirks.
That being said, for me, I never liked SoC as much as I thought I would going in. What I DID love was Call of Chernobyl, since it distills the experience of all 3 games into one cohesive package that really makes full use of the A-Life engine

Also iirc it's totally standalone so just pick that up on its own
MISERY is also pretty good if you happen to own CoP

>Call of Chernobyl
tfw waiting impatiently on 1.5 stable

Can you immerse yourself in a game ? if not then you should quit since its only an avarage shooter if you cannot immerse into it

The main appeal of stalker its the atmosphere of survival and thrill with the added bonus of being a decent shooter with some rpg elements

but its all wasted if you are unable to immerse into games

STALKER can be unforgiving and hard to get into. It's actually worthwhile to read the data files about anomalies and mutants in the PDA. It just might save your life one day. Also, once you get an AK, things start getting much smoother in terms of gunplay.

:(
I can't refund the first one because I played more than 2 hours, but I may refund the others if it doesn't get better. At this point, it feels like a worse fallout.
I haven't gotten that far yet, so I'll stick with it for a little while longer. I hope the story gets better because so far the plot (if you can call it that) and the setting are mind numbingly boring.
Even from before Garbage? I haven't reached that point yet and I"m not enjoying it much.
Are you talking about the part where you're supposed to sneak through the tunnel? I just murdered all those guys.
I CAN but I feel like the clunky gameplay and the boring setting and plot (so far) are actively preventing me from doing so.

The best way is to just go through the fence in on right from the train tracks, I didn't even know you could pay the guard to go through since they seemed to always shoot me on sight even without my weapon out until somebody told me you could.

>At this point, it feels like a worse fallout
I can't

if you haven't reach the garbage yet you are not even an hour into the game, why are you here complaining ?

mega.nz/#F!Ql5CSLxb!gNkfqg-xAUfYezLuMaFtYQ
those are the repacks, like the other have said the devs don't get the money anymore.

>I hope the story gets better

In all honesty, the story is no better than a Godzilla movie's plot. Once you get a little further in you might feel a bit more immersed and see why people like it. Get through Agroprom and go to the bar and see how you feel about the game.

i attacked that military base near the starter area purely by accident. its so fucking close and i saw some guys walking on my map, walked up to them and they started shooting at me and i had like 20 ammo left in my shitty ass pistol so i ran behind a tree with some bushes. spent the next 5 minutes hiding and stabbing them as they came near the bushes. was easy to just blast the captain guy at the bridge and then run behind cover to kill the rest

how the fuck do you aim btw im 30 mins in and still dont understand. do i put the top tip of the crosshair over their head or the entire block over their head

Get rid of the crosshairs and use iron sights. Also don't attack the military base.

you will understand soon. its the crosshair when you're not in ADS. when you zoom in its where the crosshair WAS

the bar

stalker is more or less free, check the general on /vg/

SoC gives you a taste of whats to come when you clear out the bandits to rescue nimble. The real hurt and fun comes after you get past cordon and garbage, and start going around in labs. Still kinda short though, add mods.

bullet have physics, some spread depending on the weapon and the condition, falloff and penetration

kneeling and going prone improve accuracy

the only reason you where able to kill the base at the south is because bushes are buggy in vanilla

>not attacking military base with starting makarov to get AK's early on

Fuck Duty

Fuck dogs

Hey fuck you hippie.

Its just a great atmospheric shooter with no bullshit. You get thrown right into the game. Its hard as prison dick and you have to be quick on the draw and use your head or youre fucked. If you play with the volume up and immerse yourself and still dont enjoy it, you probably never will. Its not really slow or clunky, you might just suck.

>do some quest in garbage and walk back to bunker to turn in
>see group of bandits walk up to military guys under tracks
>they have a shootout
>only one survivor that's easy to take care of
>loot everything
I was still running around with the starter pistol and sawed off shotgun. Fun times.

Seeing stuff you had nothing to do with happen in the distance was always great except it felt kinda bad seeing loners being mobbed by stuff in the distance.

Not him but of curiosity are you SUPPOSED to crouch+prone in every firefight to get the easy headshot?
It's pretty much the only way I can get any shots near where I'm aiming so I use it with heavy regularity, even with iron sights shots never land where I want them to.

>Not being a true loner

Duty and Freedom are just people who give you a paycheck.

>so I'll stick with it for a little while longer.
Please do that user. Most people started hating the game, and after some time fell in love for it, myself included.

You shouldn't have to. Though you're probably still using the starter pistol which isn't very good. Once you get an AK you should have mores success. Don't know if the difficulty affects accuracy but you should be playing on master.

My mistake, I thought the Garbage was an actual settlement, but it was actually just a building so I didn't even realize I was there until I was past it.
>it's not slow or clunky
Are we playing the same game?

For everyone talking about AKs are you talking about the AK74u I got 5 minutes in or are there actual AK47s later on?

It's not a good game.

It's Fallout New Vegas but without RPG aspects and jump scares

I don't know about other anons, but I always crouch when in firefights simply to avoid getting hit.

first you play on master difficulty so that you will hit what you aim at. If you are not on master your gun is a shit sprayer. Then you get rid of the crosshair. Never fire from the hip. Always ironsights. Of course you are drinking vodka. You get better with gun after vodka.
Hey fuck you guy.
Are you playing master and is your gun a piece of shit

It picks up around the time you get to the Bar. That's when you start getting some decent gear, and it serves as a sort of quest-hub.

No AK-47 in vanilla but that's a shit gun anyway. Eventually you'll get AN-94 that you'll keep forever because ammo availability, even though you'll have shit like a G36 and SGI 5K available. The SVDm-2 is nice, too.

it gets good when you reach the city, and then it becomes terrible right after.

The AK you get early on is the carbine version of the AK-74..
Later you can get a regular AK-74, and AN-94, among other powerful rifles.

Yeah, CoP is really a lot better from the start to the end.

ironically i played that one before the shadow of chernobyl and didnt like that either. might give it one more try though.

...

>the classic "oh shit" hop
Man if there were a mod to make jumping slower and more deliberate I think it'd up the immersion of a fight tenfold.

...

...

There's so many of these

Granadesky soon stalker

...

Holy fuck that's really cool, how come I didn't see it before? Also, is that just a one page thing or a full comic?

...

An actual Spoiler

>When does STALKER get good?
Right when you start it.

However, I've seen like hundreds of plebs to only start to enjoy it when they get good gear and embark on the more legendary missions. Both which start to happen when you finally get to the game's "main hub" of sorts, the 100rad Bar.

Pretty sure its just a one off. Never really looked it up though so maybe they make comics

>that webm

...

The joys of CS

CoP had the best looting feeling

Well, gonna look it up

...

if you have not even seen a single full-length AK-74 (NOT the AKS-74U carbine), you're not even an hour into the game.

Still, all AKs in the game are low-tier rifles, but anyone who's mastered the gameplay can easily make do with 74. Even beat the game with one.

>Garbage
it's referring to the entire garbage-dump area, not some individual building or settlement.

SoC had the best spooky moments

>clunky gameplay and the boring setting and plot
I don't get people like you.
The gameplay is VERY basic, yet the overall challenge and mood make STALKERs very engaging. Especially in the beginning, often dubbed as "hobo phase" by fans, you are truly SURVIVING against unfair odds at all times, requiring more tactical thinking, slow threading and quick reflexes.

Setting is easily THE most unique aspect of the series, and while next to nobody plays STALKER for the plot, it too is quite fascinating, especially in SoC.

...

This is the farthest I've gotten in SoC after trying to get back into it like 4 times.

I was shitting myself most of the way through it

...

>Army Warehouses
>Pripyat
>Difficult

>This is the farthest I've gotten in SoC
>The banging door
It's literally nothing

Depends if its vanilla or modded, misery with the perfectly placed monolith soldiers with rpgs sniping you after you turn a corner or take one of the teleporter anomalies make it pretty bullshit

Fucking game. I keep trying to finish it but, I end up losing all my save data before I get to keep playing.

...

>I end up losing all my save data
How? Do you reinstall your OS every month or something autistic like that?

Some mods have pretty good non scripted moments as well, some AI mods are pretty fucking good

>Going with headlamp on and without crouching
Literally asked for it

...

Is there some good english walkthroughs of this game ? Or any of the stalker game

Nah I would start, lose interest and restart it or I would get further than last time lose interest and switched computers.

For some reason when I tried to backup the saves they didn't work on one occasion and another time I just forgot. Might try again since its fun but, I'm a pussy when it comes to being spooked to any degree.

GameFAQS my nigga. Alternatively, the wiki site

inanimate objects a probably some of the deadliest things, specially in some mods

>For some reason when I tried to backup the saves they didn't work on one occasion
You probably installed a different version of the game

I never thought i would dump all the shit i saved from stalker threads

...

CoP is a wonderful masterpiece. I really like SoC and even liked CS (if it worked correctly) but they're on the harder side. CoP has the difficulty just right, bit toned down, but much of that it's because it's really polished around the hard edges.

...

...

that is some top spook right there

When you stop falling for the "play vanilla first" meme and install some mods.

...

...

I meant the youtube

God I fucking remember how much this frightened me when it happened

Taking over your screen and your senses after being so fucking immersed is literally a feeling I don't ever want to feel again

It was like my mind actually got held hostage

vanilla is a straight up meme peddled to push people away from the game

>The only winning move is not to play.webm

>youtube
>stalker walkthrough
Forget about it

I can't believe that some people call Stalker a poor man new vegas, it's just bait right?

dale wouldnt be duty

>
>it's just bait right?
What else would it be?

Yes
