Do you think the people who grew up with Mario 64 and Sunshine would like Odyssey if they played it today?
Do you think the people who grew up with Mario 64 and Sunshine would like Odyssey if they played it today?
64 was my first game I think Odyssey is great. I'm 34 before you sperg at me.
no way
No, I imagine they've all grown out of videogames by now
Yes
I still hate sunshine though
Pfft...they're probably, what, grandparents now, right?
Eh, its "okay"
yes
fuck your thread
i was 13 when 64 was new in 96
i will always love mario because nintendo won't let it become a 5/10 piece of shit like the rest of the industry would like EA.
I’ll admit I’m interested in Odyssey but I’m still not sold in the Switch. It’s not going anywhere there’s a chance of a revisioned model, I’ll wait.
I grew up with both actually. 64 really didn't keep my interest for long. Sunshine on the other hand did though.
Now Odyssey is one heck of a Mario game. I'm still having trouble fighting this dragon boss though.
No, I don't like it.
I fucking hate video games. Nothing is fun anymore. I probably couldn't enjoy it because I hate everything.
My mother's boyfriend has fallen in love with it so yeah I'd say so.
I’m 26 and loved both 64 and sunshine. Odyssey felt easy for the most part, nice to see the polish they added, I think just like sunshine they gave something new to experience. From my take it’s a great game, but nothing revolutionary besides being on a portable hybrid.
Super Mario 64 was the first game I ever played, and I loved Sunshine. Odyssey is great.
Gosh if only they were still alive to weigh in on this topic.
Pretty sure they're all dead by now.
Yes all Mario games are generally great if you like platformers.
Grew up with Sunshine; Odyssey just reeks of unpolish and laziness in comparison, honestly. Never played 64 but I'm planning on it sooner or later. Odyssey is a disappointment for me, so I imagine this is what 64fags felt when Sunshine came out.
>64 was my first game
>I'm 34
What? You didn't play any videogame at all until you were 13?
>Do you think this thing that not only is completely possible but it's actually happening could be possible?
How do you even respond to this
Odyssey is more Collectathon than Collectathon-Platformer like Sunshine and 64, hell even Galaxy. Odyssey is definitely more like Banjo-Kazzoie than a Mario game. Very sad!
But Banjo Kazooie was better than SM64.
>slow paced in general
>slower
>really basic jump mechanics
As a collectathon is good, but it's huge flaws as a platformer make it tedious and unfunny as fuck
I played 64 and sunshine growing up. I'd love to play odyssey but i don't have a switch :(
how old are you? i'm 25 and 64 and sunshine were big when i was a kid and i love odyssey
>tfw there are people born after Mario 64 came who can legally drink
>Pretending people didn’t like Odyssey because it was lik 64
I played sunshine as a kid but not 64
I haven't played Odyssey and I don't own a switch.
Playing it right now. Do you have some sort of issue?
It's not like 64, it's way more like sunshine and I didn't like that one either.
The world design has original gimicks and that's about it. The stars are way too easy, not satisfying to get one, in 64 this was done pefectly and ever star felt challenging enough. Worlds felt original in their conceptual design, not a generic park full of vehicle and 2d gimmicks.
That's fucking sad bro
>The stars are way too easy, not satisfying to get one, in 64 this was done pefectly and ever star felt challenging enough
>Worlds felt original in their conceptual design, not a generic park full of vehicle and 2d gimmicks
now this is nostalgiafagging
33 here
Grew up with Mario 1 and I want to play Odyssey but don't really feel like dishing out the money until Black Friday.
Seriously.
>The desert world and ice world in 64 is original!
>Those same worlds in Odyssey? Generic parks, complete shit!
>platformers must be about agility and fluidity
No, that's your preference, not a condition to be platformer.
>MFW I got an N64 when I was 5 with Mario 64 and Shadows of the Empire and think Odyssey is the best game of the last few years.
'95 alcoholic reporting for duty
If you feel old, suicide is always an option!
yeah..heheh... what loser would still play video games at 30??
I got those same two games with my N64 during Christmas of 96. I was in 8th grade though, and Odyssey is just as fun.
Yes. I enjoyed 64 and Sunshine, and I enjoy Odyssey.
Enjoy your generic gimmicks galore.
Lmao, you've literally never played any of these games have you? Goddamn you are pathetic.
There was a time when there was that one kid on your block that owned a console and everyone played on it. It's not surprising that he didn't own a video game til he was 13.
What are they all dead?
Of course, 64 was my first video game and still my favorite. I enjoyed Sunshine too. Odyssey is up there with both of them in my opinion.
I've done a full 2 levels on a youtube playthrough before concluding the same thing everyone has been concluding about nintendo since the wii, that they release nothing but uninspired shit hanging together with gimmicks no one even likes.
\
honestly, this game is more akin to banjo kazooie if anything. except without an overworld. if anything, i think banjo fans are definitely satisfied.
I grew up with both and I haven't got to play Ody yet because no switch. I'm sure I would love it though. Mario games are just fun. 92' here
You shut your whore mouth you shit.
t. Banjo fan
Here comes a big spoiler so stop reading now if you haven't clocked it yet
**at the end of the game you actually go back to princess peaches castle from 64, its got the same music and everything. You can also buy a old pixelated outfit which makes you look like 64 Mario. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.**
In a world where companies are shitting out video games, Nintendo seemed to put so much love and effort into this. Even if you've never played a Mario game before in your life, you'll have a ball. But if you've played through them all like me, you'll see so many references from the old games. It was like visiting an old friend who I haven't seen in years, talking about the good ol days and shooting the shit.
TL;DR
Stop caring what people think and have some fun.
>all these sonyafrican-americans absolutely desperate for anything they can shitpost about after being irrevocably BTFO for eternity
and yes, I do like odyssey. Any complaints I have are piddly shit
There's spoiler tags newfriend.
>28
>Like 64 and Sunshine
>Adore Odessey
Galaxy is shit though.
Holy hell it does give that vibe now that I think about it.
No wonder I'm adoring it so much.
I havent bought it because it looked boring as fuck and I love pretty much all mario games especially 3d world
35 here. Galaxy is my absolute favorite. 64 and Sunshine are still good but I'm generally only nostalgic for the early parts. I'm planning to pick up a Switch and Odyssey during the Christmas sales.
>Grew up with Sunshine; Odyssey just reeks of unpolish and laziness in comparison, honestly
This guy.
I grew up with Mario 1-3. Played World and 64 of course too. (31 y/o)
I really enjoy Odyssey. I do wish it was a bit more challenging, it's probably the easiest Mario I've ever played, but it's still super fun.
Nigga the people who grew up with 64 probably made Odyssey.
I can agree that the actual platforming mechanics were weaker in BK, but it had so much more personality than Mario 64. The personality is what puts it ahead for me.
I got bored of and grew out of Mario years ago.
I first played Mario 2, and then 3.
Then I got a SNES and SMW.
Played the All-Stars version of SMB1 and LL.
Then got DX and played them like that. Eventually just played them on Nesticle on my old Compaq back when Mugen was still being updated by the original team.
I got a PS1 instead of the N64. But the failing disc drive made my parents get me a N64 around the time Gran Turismo came out. That's when I played SM64 and got into the 64 games. I also fixed my PS1 and played it too. After tasting that life of being an idort, I bought a Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox the following generation.
I always liked 64 but until 3D Land came out, the game had something that bugged me.
It didn't feel like a Mario game. 3D Land and subsequently 3D World did Mario correctly in 3D. I find it ironic that people say it's not real 3D Mario when those games are the closest thing to what Mario in 3D is truly like.
Regardless, Galaxy and Odyssey are better games to me anyway.
We're extremely similar except I never got N64. I went from NES to SNES to PS1 and then onto Dreamcast and then later all the other 6th gen consoles. GameCube was my most played though.
64 is great, Sunshine is alright but filled with so many shitty parts, Odyssey is great. '93.
64 was one of my first games, love it and Odyssey,
Sunshine was terrible.
mario 64 is the greatest game ever made. name a single other game that has players accounting for momentum on slopes in parallel universes. i'll fucking wait.
Gamecube huh?
I have to admit, I played it least. Apart from Weegee's Mansion, Sunshine, Melee, Wind Waker, and F-Zero, I barely touched it. I played Dreamcast and PS2 far more.
>momentum on slopes in parallel universes
?
Yes I did.
I got Mario 64 shortly after release on my 5th birthday.
I hope your 18 if you didn't grow up with Sunshine OP.
The GameCube just clicked with me. Dreamcast was probably my second most played with PS2 and Xbox being the least used weirdly enough. My PS2 was basically just a GTA, MGS and Final Fantasy machine.
I am 33 I played Mario 64 when it launched but I still prefer World over 64. 64 is by far the best 3d Mario tho, I already have Oddyssey but haven't played it yet.
>has a PC
>has a switch
ok
>also has a PS4 and and an XBONE
>everything played on the same screen(or a different one not in the pic, but still on the same battlestation)
what?
I mean...i don't want to derail the thread or start a console vs pc war in here, but...game wise, what are the PS4 and XBONE for if you have a PC? Almost all the games on those 2 consoles are also on PC, and i doubt it's worth the price of both consoles to play the small handful of exclusives.
As of now, the point of having a console is if you don't have a powerful PC to play the games on and/or to play them on a big screen on the couch, but a $400-500 PC can run all the console games at least at the same quality level of a console(often better, but that's not the point here), and you clearly don't play them on your couch on a bigger screen, so...literally, what they're for?
I'd understand if you had them in a different room or something like that, but like this i really don't see the point.
PS4 I can kind of understand but Xbox One is really redundant if you have a decent PC.
I don't have either and i'm ok playing Persona 5 on RCPS3 so I really have no idea what's different between the 2 other than exclusives, which i already said are not owrth the price of a console(let alone 2 consoles) since there's just a handful of them.
So...whhat makes the PS4 understandable for you?
I like Odyssey, so possibly yes.
Xbone controller is for PC I don't have an actual Xbone.
PS4 is my Bloodborne/Persona 5/Ni-Oh(hahaha)/Crash Trilogy/FFXV(kill me) machine.
...Yeah, I shouldn't have one
The PC is not an adequate end-user solution for gaming yet. Steam Big Picture is yokel-tier.
PS4 has like 3 or 4 decent exclusives, and is getting Monster Hunter early. Only reasons to own one are P5, Bloodborne, and FFXV.
XBone has no exclusives, and Microsoft's stance going forward is to encourage all XBoneX titles to be multiplat with Windows.
Good thing other options exist. Like Steam in not-retard mode. Or, you know, just launching the damn game without going through other shit.
I never had SM64 for my N64 for some reason. I think my dad bought me the bundle with the extra controller instead so I never got that game. Later played it on the DS and enjoyed it (I know people hate on it) enough to get all the stars.
Did grow up with Sunshine though, hard to say which I liked more, I played sunshine for ages as a kid, since you had less games you got way more mileage out of the ones you did own, but I never got all the shrine sprites. Might try for all of them in Odyssey, Im only at 265 now and got a ways to go.
Mario 64 was my first Mario game and I like Odyssey better.
Xbox One is not redundant if you want a better media box that plays games and 4K bluray for the living room. The PS4 is laughable as a media device, and the PC is far too inconvenient for the average consumer still.
I got 64 when i was 5 so i grew up with it and its one of my favorite games. And I love Odyssey.
You're missing the point my dude, if it involves installing a goddamn frontend for convenience, it's already not convenient. As cute as an HTPC sounds, it's never as simple as a console.
>if
Boy, around 70% of Switch owners are 25 or older. Most Odyssey players grew up with Mario 64. There is no "if" about it.
Uh yes, obviously?
>Xbone controller is for PC I don't have an actual Xbone.
Right, didn't think of that
>PS4 is my Bloodborne/Persona 5/Ni-Oh(hahaha)/Crash Trilogy/FFXV(kill me) machine.
>...Yeah, I shouldn't have one
Oh well...as I said, I don't think it's worth that small handful of games, but eh, your money.
Ok now I see.
>The PC is not an adequate end-user solution for gaming yet
How so?
With consoles, you register on the store, buy a game(either physical or digital), install it, update it when required, play it.
With PC, you install and register on steam(same effort required to register on the console store), buy a game, install it(easier than ever nowadays since it's literally just double clicking instead of install prompts where you decide everything like old daysor if you pirate), update it when required, play it.
What's so different?
>if it involves installing a goddamn frontend for convenience, it's already not convenient.
How is it not convenient?
The added effort is literally 2 more clicks, nothing else, after that everything is the same on the practical aspect like i said right up there in this post.
Yes, as someone who grew up with SM64 and SMS, I very much enjoyed Odyssey. I just finished Max% the game.
LOOK AT ALL YOU POOR PEOPLE ARGUING ABOUT CONSOLES. LOLOL. I HAVE PS4, ONE, PC, WIIU, 3DS AND A SWITCH AND ALL ARE GOOD. I USE PS4 MLB, BF4 AND DESTINY, PC FOR OLD STUFF LILE SKYRIM AND TERRARIA, THE XBOX IS AWSUM FOR HULU AND NETFLIX BUT I LIKE THE PS4 BETTER 4 AMAZON (YEAH I HAVE ALL THREE) N I LIKE TO PLAY FORDZA. MY MOST UNUSED IS THE NINTENDOS BECAUSE THEY ARE USUALLY FOR KIDS BUT I GOT THEM ANYWAY BUT NEW POKÉMON ARE KINDA GAY. I ALSO HAVE N IPHONE N IPAD BUT I DONT REALLY GO FOR GAMEING. MY FAVORE IPAD GAME IS MONSTER ATE MY CONDOM. NEWAY MY POINT IS DONT BE POOR N U CAN PLAY ALL UR GAMES 2.
Yes, and I did. Mushroom Kingdom in the post game was fantastic, just wish they had done more to the castle.
>buying an xbone
>buying an iphone
lmao
>LOOK AT ALL YOU POOR PEOPLE ARGUING ABOUT CONSOLES
>ALL OF YOU
>ARGUING ABOUT CONSOLES
there's literally only 3 anons talking about consoles and pc war, and 2 of them did so in a calm way giving credits to the actual positive points the console have, not arguing that they're useless.
The other user is in favor of consoles.
Who are all these "ALL OF YOU" you're talking about?
Most of the people who bought it are those people you retard. They're the only ones who can afford more than one console which most of this board can't because millennial sonybro or pubg/mobashitter
>Watching youtubers playing
Fuck off, underage.
Played Mario 64 back in the day. Am 29. Really loved Odyssey.
No
I'm 28
I was 4 when I played super mario 64 and I very much love odyssey.
t. 21 neet
>people who grew up with Mario 64
Jesus Christ I was 19 by the time the N64 was released.
I'll probably enjoy it, but it probably won't feel nearly as magical for me as it would have if I was a kid.
I'm 29. Mario 64 was one of the first games I've ever played, and one of my all time favorites
Mario Sunshine is better in a lot of ways, and I have very strong feelings about it, as it came out during the formative years of my life
Odyssey is easily better than both.
Yes? What kind of question is that? Most people here probably grew up with those games. I grew up with All Stars/64/Sunshine and Odyssey might actually be my favorite Mario.
