I really can't wait for this to come out, I was never able to find Vol 1 so it'll be nice to go through.
Hell ye my dude, been waiting a while for this one. I’m hoping Volume 4 isn’t too short but at least we got a volume 4 at all I suppose
never got to the third game because it stopped selling, i'm hyped
I think my favorite thing I've seen about Vol. 4 is that they some how have managed to make Haseo look even more edgy than past iterations,
If you romance anyone other than Alkaid, you should consider re-evaluating your taste in women.
Don't you mean Yoko? you did play the undub right user?
Alkaid is best girl. I put myself through re watching roots and you can fucking tell that Shino gives 0 fucks about Haseo, Haseo was just a beta replacement for Ovan. Luckly he mans the fuck up and ditches that bitch in the end.
Im the user from yesterday who got the game early.
Dont get your fucking hopes up
Can you still go to the arena in Vol 4?
I’m a sucker for edge done right. I didn’t think they could top his 3rd form with the black grim reaper-eque armor, but then they went full on duster coat greatswordsman. Also is it just me or did his hair go from white to grey with his 5th form?
Atoli > Pai >Alkaid > the rest.
Is the 4th volume any good? How long would you say it is?
>Atoli first
Can you be any more vanilla?
I only ever played the first one of the first series.
I really wanted to continue but the final games were hard to come by.
Does GU spoil many things? Is it better? What's the difference?
I'm really looking forward to this if it can give me the feeling of playing that first one again.
Never played any of them, but I used to see the cutscenes all the time. I'm just in it for that black and red edgy anime aesthetic.
I didnt do much besides the story
I wont say good but definetly not bad unless you think cliche means bad.
Fun fact, you autpmatically get the email that youd normally get if you transferred your save from the original .hack games.
>I’m hoping Volume 4 isn’t too short but at least we got a volume 4 at all I suppose
im honestly not expecting much out of it but hey, at least its something new added.
how often does a company remaster an old game and add more content to it?
only other time i can think of is just kingdom hearts with aquas extra story and i suppose that extra movie as well.
It's like I'm time traveling into the future of the past.
Oh yeah also theres still goddamn popins for some goddamn reason.
Its jarring seeing popins for grass and shit from a stone throw away.
I miss BUTT-RICE.
>Three days
Nani the fuck? I thought it wasn't coming out into l next year
For sure. I lost my copy of volume 2 years ago, and fuck paying second hand prices for that shit. I'm not sure I have the time to play through all the games again, but I do want to play Volume 4.
its Ohm-rice
No it's BUTT-RICE
oh wow I completely forgot they actually brought up the fire in the GU games
i am but i cant afford it right now so i'll probably pick it up during a christmas
so whats the watching/playing order of the .hack series?
Well there is 2 eras
.hack//sign anime ---> in to the first 4 games IMOQ
Then
Legend on the twilight manga
Then .hack//roots anime(it's bad) ----->GU games
.hack//Link is after but untill the the translation is compleate enjoy moonrunes.
read AI Buster
watch SIGN
read AI Buster 2
play IMOQ
read Legend of the Twilight
watch Roots
play GU
play Link
watch Quantum
play Versus
It's place 4 on my to play list. Odin Sphere is first, followed by Dragons Dogma and the Yomawari game for PS4. What a time to be alive.
When the fuck can we preload?
I never played a .hack game, but it sounds fun and is $50, so I figured I would try it out
three more days to SKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEITH
Do I need to play the other .hack series first?
I really want to try this series out but I'm not sure I want to spend 40 bucks.
I'm right...here!
Not really. I only had passing knowledge of .hack as a whole when G.U. originally came out, having seen some of Sign and only being vaguely aware of what happened in the first series of PS2 games, and I was fine.
I do find it odd that they haven't done a remake collection like this for the Kite games first, actually. I guess GU was just way more successful.
That's good to know, are the GU games better?
The general consensus is yes, the GU games are superior. Especially in the gameplay department. There are also a shitload of playable characters by the end of GU, and most of them are fun or charming in their own way.
The big gimmick of these games is that they're essentially single-player MMO's, but actually designed to be made fun that way. The closest comparison I can make would be Xenoblade Chronicles in terms of gameplay.
The original needs more work to bring it up to "standard". Personally i don't mind the tab menu combat. But for it to sell it would need a newer style battle system. For some reason people hate the virus cores as well never got the hate for it.
did they increase the level cap from 150 in the new volume?
Okay, you got me interested.
I know next to nothing about the game.
It's it rpg or action rpg? Real time or turn based? Is it like persona?
Action RPG. Enjoy getting Rengekis.
Well as I mentioned a bit back, the closest analogy I can think of gameplay-wise for GU is probably Xenoblade Chronicles. It's real time, and you have a team with you that have their own actions and behaviors.
Also, I remember seeing the very first trailer for Volume 1 back when it was announced for PS2, and the shit blew my mind as a teenager.
youtube.com
No gameplay in it, but it shows the style that CyberConnect2 has since become known for.
While their games vary wildly in quality in terms of gameplay, nobody else does the crazy anime-like style in games quite like CC2. Probably why they keep getting work on the Naruto games.
I can't wait to 100% the trilogy all over again.
Went into the series expecting to be an Alkaidfag and hating Atoli and left being an Atolifag. It doesn't help that Alkaid isn't even a part of the game for over half of itso who can blame me.
Me to.
Ironic thing is i did a play through this year and the day after i finished Vol 3 Last Recode was announced. Gonna try for the Plat.
Anyone know if the Bike Glitch still works? Because fuck the bike game.
I hope the extra episode isn't shit.
I have been putting off going through G.U. again and just as I was about to get ready to go through them again is when Last Recode was announced.
I do eagerly await it. Even re-watching Roots to get in the spirit of things.
Steam version > PS4 version though.
Important question all: Dub or Sub?
Does a bear shit in the woods?
Yeah, we all do. My main worry is that it will be short as fuck.
I actually forgot that they also included a digest disc summary of the Kite games, so that'll be really good for people who are brand new as a whole like and I also actually think adding a Cheat mode is a really good idea, since a lot of people who will be getting this are people who were fans of the first game, and might just want to blaze through to get to certain parts again. I'm assuming it will turn off trophies or something, though.
dub. you need the maximum edgelord experience.
>Come on. Come on. I'm right here. SKEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIITHHH
I played some of the first game of the first series when I was younger after seeing a cool edgy advertisement for the last game in a magazine. Liked it but never got far and then let a friend borrow the games before I finished them and never got them back. Is this series fun? Looking for a neat rpg to play before Xenoblade 2 comes out. Or should I just get KH collection?
I think this will definitely scratch the itch until Xenoblade 2. It's somewhat similar to Xenoblade in terms of mechanics, although it doesn't have the giant world structure like Xenoblade games tend to.
>not Endrance
>not Azure Kite
I wonder if you get the Apkallu pictures as back grounds at least in the pc version.
>Is anyone else excited for this?
viral
Is the gameplay fun? Or is it the story that people are excited for? PS4 or PC?
>Is the gameplay fun?
Uh... it can be, when the game allows it to be. Which is more often than not starting around 3 or so hours into Vol.2. And even then, enemies are still damage sponges, quests are still bloated and grindy as all hell, and the obligatory tournament arcs never end (they basically encompass the majority of each game).
>Or is it the story that people are excited for?
Story is the worst main .hack story there is, so I'd say no. Read the noverlization if you want actual character development and story.
>damage sponges
Replacement cuck out word for shit skills
>Muh enemy's have to much health
Perhaps you should git gud
>REEEEEEEEE no that requires effort i want the enemys to die when i hit them once so i can go on Sup Forums and complain about the game being to easy.
He could always just use cheat mode!
Should I grab this or play Fairy Fencer F which is in my backlog?
Oh fuck off. Every time a new game comes out and people want to discuss it there's always some person spamming that everyone excited are paid shills.
>compile heart
put it in the trash
Oh i know he will.
I can't even think of an enemy that takes more than fair punishment before death. Perhaps Cernunnos but that is a given as he is a superboss (one sin and the like count as well) or doppleganger but you can beat dopple in 15 seconds if you know what to do.
I played through them and really enjoyed my time in The World, or whatever they called it. The gameplay was better than I expected, there are actually some hard fights, the changing of your class as the games progressed was a blast and the MMO setting and trappings worked quite well, all things considered. It at least made grinding fit not only the narrative but the theme. Too many games fail at both.
I don't remember the girls at all, or anyone apart from squat guy, green dude, Ovan and Kite. Haseo, obviously.
Pi is so fucking hot dammit
I was thinking about this game today. I don't know anything about .hack other than what you learn in Project X Zone 2 but I liked the characters and the trailer looks good, so I'll play it.
Do you guys think I should watch the anime first?
Not really. The games explain the plot pretty well.
You can do. But this game does come with a "primer" on what you need to know before jumping in. Some extra media is good others (roots) are not very good.
>Or is it the story that people are excited for?
these games introduce characters/things and then proceed to drop them for something else entirely for hours
many hours
no seriously, not bullshitting. these games are default 30-35 hours long and they pad the ever loving hell out of everything. thats 3x longer than any of the games in the original series. hell, you could clear the entire original series in just shy of 40 hours
speaking of padding: each game shares the same exact 'sidequests'. 4 of which require you to do *thing* 50 times to clear it
you should never ever hate mecha grunty but fucking hell if the devs don't try to make you hate it. refueling it 100+ times and then replenshing the fuel you spent on it is the definition of padding
but hey thats like a real mmorpg right? right?
Nice
Combat looks boring desu
I share you pain about Mecha Grunty . But at least they are upping the limit on chim to 999. You could sit in an area for 15 mins to get all the chims you need for the whole games.
so, uh, pass on this game? or does it have redeeming qualities?
Eh? Why would I use cheat mode on a game that's already piss easy? If enemies die quickly instead of slowly, then the god awful grind called getting your weapon levels up would take even longer. Plus it would wreck the Virus Core farming balance in Vol.3. These games are built around making you spend as much time as possible sans anything to make them the least bit difficult (self-imposed gimping not withstanding). Consequently this makes achieving something completely unrewarding and just another thing checked off on the lonely, mindless road to 100%.
Anyone know if there was any addon content that wasn't memory card related? I remember my second go around being different, but would that have been from the "do certain things by ___ date" system?
>that's already piss easy
So why moan about "damage sponge"? If it is easy? At least be consistent you fucker.
Do you like anime? Do you enjoy lots of meaningless character interactions that are extremely similar to actual losers playing MMOs? Do you like hilariously cole steel type characters? Do you at least like the idea of playing a game within a game?
best bro right here. repeated voice actor changes and grinding can't keep him down
but you know what they could've done in addition to the 999 cap? cut these quest requirements in half. you have to go out of your way to even partake in them because mecha grunty and other shit almost never show their faces during story dungeons
tbf you could not do optional grindy content and just plow through each main story. be warned that the first games battle system sucks until you get a sword and thats a decent ways in iirc though aside from that theres the issue of party members which are extremely limited in the first game
>So why moan about "damage sponge"?
Because it's boring? Since when was time consuming redefined to mean difficult? Time consuming has more in common with grinding than difficulty in my book.
>Time consuming
So you play video games without the time to put the effort in? Fucking casual expecting something for nothing.
Not everyone want to bring their boring and repetitive office job to home
>He compares video games to an office job
WEW LAD
If I'm getting my ass beat in Devil May Cry, or Burnout 3, or Guilty Gear X2 and need to spend time refining my play style, that's fine. That's not .hack//G.U.
.hack//G.U. is taking what would have been a fun battle system and making it mindnumbingly dull by virtue of having no way to fail (outside of intentionally trying to) and making fights against even the most basic of mooks last twice as long as they should. This isn't fucking Tactics Ogre, this is an action rpg. Would Secret of Mana be fun if it took a minute to kill Rabites?
Spending time to improve is all well and good when there's a point to improving. And when improving is noticiable rather than negligible. You can suck at .hack//G.U. if you ignore blatantly obvious enemy weakness, never do shit with gear customization, and not utilizing the guard button to cancel attack animations quick. But you'll never be penalized for it. You'll get through the game all the same.
>If I'm getting my ass beat in Devil May Cry, or Burnout 3, or Guilty Gear X2
>If i name drop some "hardcore" games it will prove that am not a fucking casual who just wants to get things for free.
Just fucking admit you are going to play on cheat mode. It's better not to suppress your real self.
What I mean is that with limited time, others dont want to be bored by games. Some enjoy their repetitive grindfests and that's fine too.
How was this in comparison to the games on PS2? I remember enjoying the hell out of them until my PS2 died in the middle of the 4th game and I never got around to finishing it. Ill probably end up buying it anyways, I just want to know if it actually improved on the previous games.
Speaking of single player MMOs how is the PC port of SAO Hollow Realization? SAO aside is the game actually fun to play?
>I don't want to be bored in a game, so i want every enemy to die in 1 hit so i get my instant gratification. Then go to Sup Forums to complain how easy it was.
Enjoy the psychosis
Enjoy cheat mode you casual.
I heard volume 4 is one hour long. So likely more of an epilogue than an actual episode.
I'll get it to occupy my time until Xenoblade comes out, probably won't finish it in time.
FUCKING
HYPE
IS
REAL
I am praying for an HD remaster of the original 4 games
I believe they're interested in it, they decided that GU would be better to do first. So if this does well, maybe IMOQ will happen. Though I'd still rather a new entry
Same
>new .hack game
>comes bundled with remaster original 4 games
true happiness would be a co op mode
