they're not. 6 was a step backward, though I do appreciate that they're trying to change things up. New mechanics like districts put way more emphasis on spawn location RNG.

I am still playing Civ 3 because I love the sprites. The mechanics are weaker than Civ4, but I just cannot stand the artstyle.

3 was the first one I played, tempted to pick it up again, it has Alexander yeah?

Yep, he is the leader of the Greek nation. You know Civ3 is comfy, don't resist it.

ive played so much 5 and 6 over the past couple of years, how different is 3? been like 10 years since I played

downloading now

Stacking units, square grid, overall simpler mechanics (luxuries, building trees, no religion, etc). Personally, I feel the comparison is similar to Master of Orion 1 vs 2, if you have played those.

It is not a necessarily better game in terms of complexity compared to Civ4/5, but it is a fun experience nonetheless.

...

>palace customization
>view city

why did they remove these

Terrible. I'm trying to finish a game on deity but I keep getting fucked by barbarians.

I hate how 6 managed to ruin 5 for me, but 6 is in such an unfinished state that I cant stand playing it either. Every time I go to play 5 all I can think about are the systems that 6 does better, but when I play 6 all I can think about are the systems that 5 does better.

I feel like Firaxis is starting to turn into Bethesda where they release a half finished game and expect the community to finish it.

still enjoying Modded Civ 5. if you're still playing this piece of shit you deserve to be gassed

same here

I'm a few games in six and not once have the AI attacked my territory even after declaring war

is this a bug?

...

While certainly a step back in features from 5, it's built on a much better foundation and if it had come out instead of 5 during 2008 I think people would have reacted more positively.

Civ V's AIs were all insufferable jerks. Where in all other civ games if you played your cards right you could have a civil if boring game, V's are out for blood no question. Like if your frendship level dips to hostile once in V, that's it, you're enemies for life with that Civ where in III, IV, and VI in my experience you can have a war and capture multiple cities from your enemy and still come out as friends in the late game afterwards.

which civilization is the best? I played II as a kid and now Im playing IV.
Also, opinions on caveman2cosmos? I was liking it, but only thing I did was hunting animals, lots of turns and still in prehistoric era. Also, I had to reinstall windows and lost my save, and with it the desire to keep playing :(

Alpha Centauri is definitely the best from an objective standpoint because it's a great Civ game and then puts some new elements on top of it, which is nails perfectly.

All the other Civ games are roughly equal after expansions. They all follow Sid Meyer's antra of keeping the game consistently deep/challenging, so for every feature gained, they have to remove something else.
The result is that every single one does something better than its peers, but also lacks something compared to them.

SMAC breaks the mold by getting there with the Civ part and adding stuff not seen before or since into the mix. Terraforming, deep storyline,...
In a way, SMAC established the formula that Endless games have taken up recently.

Caveman to Cosmos is a radically different experience from Civ in my opinion: where most of them at least have some awareness that they are a board game meant to end at some set point, if you set up revolutions C2C becomes a... a something sim. You know the Endless War of Civ II? Expect scenarios like that if you try and play on a large world with new civs being created and dividing and dying throughout history, and recently crime mechanics have been codified so even a shitty backward civ can gradually break apart a modern empire if they play their cards right with espionage.

I think more than anything, C2C makes espionage not only important, but a viable alternative to research if you're behind techwise. This of course all takes place after you've left the prehistoric era, which is largely just animal grinding.

i've played nothing but Civ IV for the last decade

Still can't win on noble

Fuck trading resources or tech with anyone else, isolationism all the way

i'm so bored

EXPAC W H E N

bump

people say this without understanding how the game mechanics work
friendly civs in 5 will be friendly if you treat them right, until you get to the ideological era and pick a different one (just like real life) or when you're close to a victory condition
if you want a game where the civs will hate you no matter what, try 6

eh 6 AI is worse than 5 but they can be chummy unlike 3

>catapults cant defend your cities

really wish I fucking knew this

>are you such a coward without honor

>Played 3 games of VI to completion before I gave up

Honestly the fucking movement more than anything made me stop playing. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to make units spend an entire turn just to move into rough terrain/over rivers? Slows army movement down to a fucking crawl. Really glad I didn't spend 50 fucking pounds on it.

they are insufferably dumb

if there's an ocean between the attackers and you, just send your warships to have a look around - most likely they'll find a lot of fat, embarked targets just meandering around in the water while the AI tries to get together a half-assed invasion - they won't and their troops are easy pickings while at sea

decided to take the Khmer for a test drive - started on a continent all to myself except for a half-dozen city states

Alexander's scouts just showed up from overseas, so ohboyherewego.jpg

khmer is such an asshole

hope this plays when your first modern tank rolls out.

>everyone always declares war on me so alexander ends up being the friendliest civ and is the only one who allies with me in 6

kek

fuck this game

the fuck

true start earth and I got russia sparta and france right next to me

In the time since I posted this I have lost.

>already denounced

kek

I liked Civ 6, but grew bored with it way, way faster than the others. Wouldn't say no to a good expansion, but it appears Firaxis is just content with creating new DLC civs.

Biggest mistake was that they changed the artstyle it to a comic style...

I like the way the leaders look but yeah the map looks so much better in 5

Fucking expansion when?

Is there a proper Earth map mod?
I know theres a small Earth map in game, but that sucks

>Civ 6 is shit
>Stellaris is shit
>Endless space 2 is shit
>HOI4 and EU4 are shit
>Paradox keeps being jews with endless DLCs in their games
The future doesn't look good for 4x and grand strategy games.

I heard Distant Worlds 2 is cuming.
Anyway, whats wrong with ES2? Havent tried it yet

>Endless space 2 is shit

I have a strange concept of One More Turn
Instead of an addictive need to play and find out what'll happen next turn, I somehow think of Civ as a game you can try to finish in one sitting
Which ends up being 7 hours later and no progress

are you me

...

Went to a thift/antique store today. They were selling most of the books they had for $2, I found a copy of Civ 4 on the bookshelf for $2, am very happy

nice, complete or vanilla?

Just vanilla
but it's worth $2 just to sit and look nice on my shelf

Yeah definitely

...

accurate

Is vox worth trying out? Ive heard a lot of mixed opinions about it on here, but it looks promising.

>playing anything past civIV

Deathstacks were much better than watching the AI cover continents and oceans in a blanket of obsolete units.

>spawn right next to brazil

zzz

Am I?

Which mods are you using to get all those juicy civs?

It's fine. I go back and play a session every now and then, same as every Civ game. I've already beaten it on Diety so at this point I'm just waiting for more civs.

>I feel like Firaxis is starting to turn into Bethesda where they release a half finished game and expect the community to finish it.
They don't though, they release a half finished game and then have you wait for expansions to finish it

Reminder that we got like 8 fucking dlc civs in 5 before Gods and Kings came out.

Not true, unlike the arabs Shaka Zulu was someone you could negotiate with. It's just hard to negotiate on a platform of, "we want your land Shaka"

Do you have the patience and sanity to do it Sup Forums?

pls guys
i need this

Any good tips for Civ 6 Spain, lads?

>give in and buy khmer/indonesia DLC
>start an island map as my indonesian waifu
>kongo declares early war on me
>kick his ass and take all his land
>ally with khmer and make friends with china
>everything's going great for indonesia
>one turn after my alliance with khmer ends he and china both declare war on me
Fuck Civ VI.

As the guy who posted it: it's just an image I've found from Civ threads.
I'm pretty sure you can find most of them on Steam Workshop in one way or another

...

is civ 4 the pinnacle

its Civ 3 mate

Getting a refund.

whats different in 3 from 4? i want to play something different

>Huns are white
so...this is the power of the Dragon of the Magyar...woah...it's really something
