I think the only stuff that needs improvement is the character/'foreground' lighting, the effects and maybe her animations. Otherwise it looks okay to me.

He was kinda wrong, "good" 2D is fucking expensive. Pretty sure Hollow Knight and Ori don't have that many animations and mostly do it with flash. Then again, you have Cuphead which is good 2D animation, so this argument of me is retarded anyway.

Hollow Knight made less than 60k on kekstarter, and yet it's hand-drawn 2D. The most expensive Vanillaware game cost only 1 milion dollars (at least 5 times less than BS). There are tons of good-looking pixel art games that were made by tiny teams with barely any money.

Let's face it, there is a reason why Crapcom told Inafune to fuck off, and it's probably the same with IGA and Konami.

Hollow Knight has a simplistic art style that is only a step above Smiley faces.

It's a million steps above Bloodstained. Simple and Sweet > Contrived and Messy

I refuse to play Hollow Knight because it's so simple looking. Smiley faces and like 3 colors. Yawn. I want to play as a dude running through a castle, collecting weapons with wildly different play styles, while some catchy music plays.

You're missing out

It's simple, but it's also cohesive, conveys the atmosphere of the game really well and has a lot of charm.

Also my point was, that they made it with just 60k, and yet IGA can't make a decent looking game with 100 times as much money, industry connections and years of experience. There's clearly something wrong with the way they're using their budget.

and the lack of updates is shit
and the lack of alpha/new demo is shit
and the lack of prequel mini game for 3ds/vita is shit
and the general lack of anything cool for the backers is shit

Game is definitely being made for money and not for the fans which is really disappointing.
The feel of the demo in 2016 was spot on and mirrors SotN perfectly and really got my hopes up but it's been a year and half and nothing has changed graphics wise and there's been no real update since then.
Fucking shame, but I guess I learned my lesson on Kickstarters

That Vanillaware game only cost a million because the lead artist and most of the crew worked for free between other projects for years. It's not at all a viable method or a legitimate comparison.

On top of that they're western developers. I remember reading an interview where IGA was talking about how he wanted to make it pure 2D, but couldn't find the people able/willing to do it.

Only problem I have is the backgrounds are kinda lacking.

The animations are slow as fuck and badly made. The graphics are very boring. And the gameplay looks incredibly simple.

It's too fucking slow. I'm gonna have to crank it up to 2x speed in cheatengine just for it to be playable.
