Not only did fortnite come second, it's equally simple as pubg. Both have no depth to them regardless. This is truly the worst analogy of the day; I would tell you to be proud but that's encouraging bad habits. Try taking a walk outside, maybe clear your thoughts, hell smoke some weed if you need to. Melee and TF2 are old games that have complex mechanics (rocket jumping, wavedashing) to learn and some programming quirks (such as Spy stabbing tricks) that ultimately benefit the game by adding to the depth of playing them.

Smash 4 and Overwatch are the clean, refined new games that lack mechanical depth because they are so polished and because they try to make it easy for newcomers to assimilate by lowering the skill floor.

I think a game that has a lot of effort put into it but not as good of a result is worth more than a technically better game that they were lazy with

what features were stripped out of smash 4 from brawl, only one that comes to mind is subspace emissary and I always felt that was kind of overrated and not particularly good.
