Should SEGA just give up on Sonic? What good is a mascot if it's only damaging your brand with each new game?

Should SEGA just give up on Sonic? What good is a mascot if it's only damaging your brand with each new game?

SEGA of Japan are blind to what damage Sonic causes to their brand, not that it matters to them because the Japanese don’t mind about Sonic like we do. If the games were managed by SEGA of America or Europe, there would be more quality control in place.

Mania was a step in the right direction however those types of games reach a boiling point very fast if too many are released in succession. Dropping sonic may do more harm than good but capcom seems to be doing fine so who knows.

Bring back Alex Kidd.

If they did who should they replace him with?
I'd vote Miku. Yakuza would be cool but the point of a mascot is they don't really change so unless Kiryu stopped aging and forever remained the protag (killing all of his character growth in the process) it wouldn't really work. Meanwhile Miku is a face everyone knows and with how much vocaloid content there is they could easily release a new miku game every two-three years.

Sonic must be selling enough to keep the franchise going.

Just because you think his game is shit doesn't mean kids aren't still enjoying him and his games. Just last week my 5 year old nephew asked his grandad if he had ever watched Sonic Underground.

My Nephew who's never been exposed to Sonic in the way we know him is enjoying the 90s cartoons.

Actually, yeah. They should totally adopt Miku as their new mascot. The waifu factor alone would make her a good choice.

Mascots are dead though. Just look at McDonalds, now it's NIGGER NIGGER SPIC SPIC CHINK WHITE WOMAN and there's no Ronald McDonald insight.

There's no need for a mascot when you have social media and the internet and you can insert yourself into everything. Just have a logo instead

The damage Sega is doing their brand is putting Sonic over everything else.

They're smothering their image with him when they have a more diverse catalog they could fall back to.

They don't need to remove him entirely, just dial it back.

Last I checked isn't it that abomination of a happymeal box that's their current mascot?

How does he do it?

By not having a stream of shitty games that tainted the name.

Sonic's bad reputation is entirely down to games that are objectively broken and a fandom that will go down in flames denying it just to stay loyal to their hero.

SEGA doesn't own Miku though

Arle and Puyo Puyo.

Even I, as one of the more diehard Sonic fans, cannot believe the level of praise Sonic Heroes gets.

Did we even play the same game? How are you overlooking how painful it is to play?

They publish all the Miku games.
Is definitely a better alternative since it is a property they own

>switch out the autistic blue headed meme lord with the autistic blue headed meme queen
You're onto something user. I bet no one would notice the change at all.

Fuck you.
I laughed.

Give more time to produce a main Sonic title. Fill the void with spin offs.
Do what Nintendo is doing. They only release a single AAA 3D Mario game per gen.
Only exception being Galaxy 2 which is more of a expansion than a stand alone game. The rest is racing mario games, mario party and rpgs.

Sonic AAA lacks ambition, longevity, quality. Give 2, 3 years to produce a high quality big AAA game. Fill the time void with sonic spin offs. Release more sonic all star racing, try another rpg, make a crossover with other popular franchises like what nintendo did with ubisoft.

Consumer will continue to not take sonic seriously as long sega doesn't take the franchise seriously

Don't bully Miku!

>Dropping sonic may do more harm than good but capcom seems to be doing fine so who knows.
>capcom
Kys retard

Fanboys of mario don't accept any kind of critique either

Biiiiitch, they just made Sonic Mania. Hopefully they fire Iizuka and focus on 2D, and that'll get them back up to speed.

It's better to release Sonic quicker to get the bad ideas out of the way.

kids buy millions of copies of every sonic game regardless of quality. they have no reason to try harder or to stop making games.

I think Sega should have waited a bit after Sonic Mania and when the demand increases, release the next Sonic title. Sonic Forces just took the franchise backwards.

Hell no. Sonic has never had his full potential realized because of Stupid Teams idiocy. They need to disband ST and get him in more competent hands.

Mario hasn't had a new game since the N64.

>Mario bros/New Mario
>Mario 64/Odyssey
>Mario kart/Mario kart 9(?)

Other than Splatoon Nintendo just do CoD but on a 2 year release instead of 1.

Sonic Fan here.

This user is right and it makes me sad.

Sonic Forces was in development for four years my dude. The only triple A game ST has ever made was Unleashed back when they still cared about the franchise, and they had even less time to make that. They have no enthusiasm anymore.

If Sonic Forces sells well/is even reviewed as medicore, it is over for the blue hog. Sega will realize they don't even need to make a full game like Unleashed and Generations, and actually put time and effort into it. They can shit out a game with reused assets of all previous games, reskinned bosses, go backwards in controls and physics AND graphics, and they'll still be rewarded for it. If this does well expect more tripe to follow just like this in the exact same vain. They will realize that the western autism audience, and the "I'LL BUY IT IRONICALLY XDDD JUST TO SEE HOW BAD IT IS XDDD" will fuel the series forward.

you know it be true.
