How come Sony doesn't make more platformers?
How come Sony doesn't make more platformers?
People seemed to like the latest Ratchet & Clank. Critics seemed to love it, and it sold well enough to warrant another installment.
because ape escape 4 won't be a platformer, but a cinematic reboot
They also made Tearaway which is sort of a platformer with different puzzles mixed in. It's actually a pretty neat little game that sold really poorly because PS4 gamers are more interested in CoD and cinematic walking simulators.
Runs at 1080p/60 with 8xMSAA so it looks really crisp and fluid.
stop shilling your indieshit faggot
Isn't that insomniak games?
>stop shilling your indieshit faggot
It's not even an indie game, it's made by Media Molecule and published by Sony.
yes
They don't really have a knack for them.
>recommendations are shilling now
Get lost fucko
obviously meant for
Se_ez?
Doesn't get past focus testing anymore.
Carlos... You sly little shit.
The latest R&C was very light on the platforming bits, i'd hardly call it a platformer. As for Tearaway, it's an alright game that doesn't really do much outside of its gimmicks and drags on towards the second half. I also got the feeling they didn't really know who their target audience was to begin with.
Yeah, it's absurd how autistic some people on Sup Forums are. Tearaway was never shilled or even fucking advertised on PS4 which is why it sold like 1000 copies.
>Ratchet 2016
that game is trash
The movie was trash, and the in-game plot is trash because of it
Rather than being a snarky rodent who likes to blow shit up, we get a fucking fanboy who can't see past the fact that his hero(quark) is a fraud/asshole.
Also the weapons are unbalanced and leveling system is garbage.
And it even has less levels than the Original.
How well did Sly 4 sell?
...
I'm always intrigued by what people who grow up on Sony consider a platformer, like the only requirement to you is stylized art and and a jump button, regardless of the game's content.
Half a million or so. That's pretty weak considering even the worst Sly game, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves sold over 1M.
platformers arent edgy, gritty, manly, and cinematic enough
they sell like shit
How did this one turn out?
>occasionally lonely
What the fuck does that even mean
and the music sucked too and was full of tired boring "epic" orchestra
instead of awesome shit like this:
I grew up with Nintendo and Sony my entire life. I remember back in the early 2000's the Sony platformer trio, which consisted of Jan and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Ratchet & Clank. They weren't perfect, especially Jak but they were more than Sony has now.
Gravity Rush, Tearaway, and Knack can't compete.
How does it feel to be underage and get into games since 2007?
Great actually. I'm enjoying it with a friend. It really is a hidden gem that should've gotten more traction.
Oh man I totally forgot about that. It came out right before the ps4 so it probably sold zero copies but it looked good
All except Ratchet.
Yeah yeah you watched that YouTube video, we get it. Go parrot somewhere else.
Because normies chose shooters, sandboxes, Beth "RPG's" and movies. Sony has always been a 1up-company even during their glory PS1/2 days, they just simply switched to copying M$ around last gen.
Also they're not like Nintendo who still owns all their classic platformer-franchises (hence another reason why All-Stars was shit).
there was a trailer for it showcasing japan studio's history and they decided that ape escape on the move should have been shown there instead of the first game.
They require gameplay
The Ratchet and Clank reboot was a very poor remake. Far too easy and the characters lost their personality, especially Clank.
>you can't say something because some rando YouTuber said the same thing
The absolute state of Sup Forums
just make it a fps.
Good thing I’m not a sex offender, otherwise I would have shit opinions like NeoGaf!
thats what platformers are
Be it Gex, Croc, Tomba, Rayman, Klonoa, Ty, Crash, Spyro, Sly, Jak, Ratchet, etc...
Sony actually had a fuck ton of games and franchises to choose from. While Nintendo fanboys stuck to 4 Mario games throughout 3 gens.
Despite the remake being the worse in the mainline series, it sold the best out of the entire franchise for Sony to take note. Wouldn't be surprised after Spider-Man Insomniac would hop immediately back to Ratchet.
gamespot.com
Because it's harder to pad out the length with cinematics
Because I don't like them
Too videogamey.
Requires creativity and ingenuity as well and doesn't focus test well with the 12-14 year old audience that consoles are aiming for.
Why bother with something like that when you can just market a generic third person cover based shooter or generic Open world game with screenshots and cool trailers that you can load up with microtransactions.
You can't even get the full graphical fidelity out of your console because rather than being able to have the camera sit on the protagonists shoulder with 60 FoV you actually need a camera that can cover a decent amount of the whole platforming thing you're going to be doing.
Oh right. I remember seeing this and being excited for it. But the news of the PS4 just made me super depressed and I kind of quit Sony wholesale for a while. And forgot about the game.
Someone who didn't play Challenge Mode.
>Also they're not like Nintendo who still owns all their classic platformer-franchises
Only Crash and Spyro left and one wasn't even owned by them
Are you obstinately stupid or just building a portfolio?
That's not a platformer.
Because it's almost 2018 and nobody likes pure platformers anymore. 3D platforming is expected to be just one element of a game nowadays, not the focus
>nobody likes pure platformers anymore
>two of the most talked about releases of the past month were Hat in Time and Mario Odyssey
fuck if thats true it dosent look good for us sly fans...
Ape Escape 4 should have been made a long time ago
>occasionally lonely
What does this even mean?
>Mario
talked about solely because it's Mario
>Hat in Time
indie shit
>nobody refuted your argument
lmao, these retards don't even try anymore
>Big budget game doesn't matter because it's popular!
>Low budget game doesn't matter because it's low budget!
Pathetic.
>occasionally lonely
not very fair for the writer to bring his problems up in the review
So are we just not allowed to talk about video games?
Go to hell.
God I hated that retarded fucking video. The original R&C has better music and writing but the gameplay was dogshit. The new R&C had the best gameplay in the series, it's just unfortunate it also had a shit framerate and a mediocre selection of weapons.
>sold really poorly
No it sold poorly because it was another easy as fuck platformer.
>How did this one turn out?
speak of the devil. 10/10 presentation with the MOST BRAINDEAD platforming I have ever played. Seriously. They were making a game for 4 year old. and 4 year old should not be playing vidya.
On topic, f they combined LBP aesthetics/design with Knack 2 gameplay (on hard) Sony would have a killer game.
This game was utter trash though.
President of PlayStation has expressed interest in reviving the franchise soon-ish. There's been some talk of a revival, and there's even cartoon in the works as of now. A new Sly game seems like its coming later down the line
holy fuck i hope that is true so the franchise can get a worthy ending. its torture to sit here and wait for a continuation from the ending fro sly 4.
