That was fun

That was fun.

I'm thinking about it, but the artsyle seems atrocious. Is it good though? How is it compared to Hollow Knight or Valdis Story? I love exploration and secrets that affect gameplay, is any of that there?

I didn't like the artstyle either but the gameplay made up for it. It's a souls game through and through, with metroid level design and progression, involving things like walljumping as stuff you get from bosses.
>Hollow Knight or Valdis Story
Never played those.
> I love exploration and secrets that affect gameplay, is any of that there?
Yes, there's even optional areas with bosses of their own.

Way too easy, though.
Either go naked with a giant weapon or else just spam magic.
Or guns.

Everything but whips and daggers seem to be overpowered for the most part.

>Way too easy, though.
Just like Dark Souls.

It's alright, pretty tight gameplay but very derivative, also very easy to break, just like Souls, but you can get some good hours and fun out of it if you like metroidvanias.

Shit that sounds dope, added to wishlist. Thanks fellas

I agree with this however I had zero desire to replay it even with NG+, unlike Souls games.

Compared to Hollow Knight:
>has actual equipment you can change which influence your speed, attributes, etc.
>slower but much more varied combat with weapon-based special moves (there's even a gunblade in it), combos, some slight air juggling, etc.
>levels are more interconnected and travelling is much less tedious
>currency never become pointless, especially when playing with ammo-based weapons
>less interesting or memorable characters
>uneven boss difficulty
>worse platforming, even with the upgrades

>>worse platforming, even with the upgrades
it gets batshit when you get the air dash though, crazy anus-puckering jumps, particularly for secret areas like the fire sanctuary in pitchwoods.

I discovered I enjoy a fresh run on new char much more than NG+ in Souls. Feels more like new adventure.

It's actually better than any modern souls.

dark souls isn't modern?

This game was the definition of mediocre.

Well, considering there are few to none good indie games being mediocre is nothing to be ashamed of.

It actually was. Far from perfect, but way more than I was expecting.

It's been a few months; might go through this again.

*teleports behind you*

...

I enjoyed a good 100 hours on PC and some other 100 hours on Vita, it's nothing special but it's pretty enjoyable, also, even with all its shortcomings it was pretty neat for a game realized by two people, husband and wife on top of that.
>Filename
pretty much

It's okay. It's the true "Dark Souls but 2D". I enjoyed it more than Valdis Story but less than Hollow Knight

It's like pocket dark souls. I think I played through it like 8 times in a row when I first got it, and it got to the point where I could beat it in 4-5 hours. It's not a great game by any metric, but it's easy to play and does a few clever things I'd love to see in a real souls game.

I think Valdis Story gets way too much praise, being in great-tier in that one picture and all

>we can't make an AI that will navigate the environment effectively so we'll have everything jump miles high, fly through walls or teleport
There were a lot of unrefined things in this game.

The only enemies that teleport and the Liches in the pyramid and the rabid skellies in the grotto, the only enemies that jump sky high are the Vilehawks and nothing can fly through walls, if they get to you it's because there's a opened door somewhere that lets them do that.

>nothing can fly through walls

Didn't those fucking flaming skulls do that?

And the wrathful dead too.

It's good.
Never got the hang of those bloodsucking dogs that jump out of the background to kill you in 3 seconds though.

The hang is to slap their shit the moment they finished climbing down.
Their spawning points are always the same so you can just wait there until they materialise out of thing air on whatever they're climbing.

in what area are those?

The most irritating enemies are those unicorn fuckers
