Since the dot hack series has been relevant lately, I'd like to know how playable the original games are in 2017. Anyone who played this series for the first time recently?
Since the dot hack series has been relevant lately, I'd like to know how playable the original games are in 2017...
Only played part 1. The others are too expensive
Combat is pretty boring and repetitive. It pretty bad at times because it's basically in real time but all your skills require you to go into a menu to use so you're constantly pausing the game to use your skills.
The story is interesting though so if you want to slog through it for that you can.
What about //GU?
>The story is interesting though so if you want to slog through it for that you can.
To an extent. It really does require some serious suspension of disbelief at times.
>hidden forbidden holy ground in infection
>data drain for the first time
>balmung loses his shit at kite before walking away
>"But... if I find out you're behind this, I... WILL kill you.*"
>*in a video game
You can just pretend balmung was rping as an edgelord
Haven't played it but I heard the gameplay is better
Balmung was also an actual admin with access to info on players and shit
IMOQ gameplay has not aged well, if you didn't play it on release, you probably won't enjoy it too much now. You still might if you really really like RPGs.
G.U. has slightly better gameplay, and also, if you're playing the remaster then it comes with a Terminal Disc in the main menu that will catch you up on the plot of IMOQ.
It's pretty shit and repetitive for gameplay, but I love the characters, art design and story enough to run through all 4 volumes several times.
I'm a bit of a fanboy, however, so emulate infection and give it a shot.
.hack was always relevant
not to bamco (for western audiences)
I'm in the process of replaying it right now.
Gameplay is way better, but has a problem that the originals also had in that the dialogue is slow as shit.
Remaster updated textures and cutscene graphics but models and anymations are still the same and going from cutscene to gameplay gives me severe backlash. Still great tho
>but has a problem that the originals also had in that the dialogue is slow as shit.
I noticed that too, the pause between each line is very noticeable.
If you don't like the gameplay, you can just watch the videos from terminal disc in G.U to get whole summary.
Play with Japanese audio, the pauses are only in dub.
>we live in the timeline where .hack was dead for years and SAO was thriving
Kill me
The forums are/were/will always be the funniest part to me. The stories there always get me.
I'm playing in japanese. It's not only the pauses (which in jap are still there). It's that the dialogue is sometimes babby's first game
>Play in japanese
>When I need to nostalgically listen to yuri lowenthal scream for three games straight.
Maybe on my next playthrough.
The gameplay is bad, like unbearably bad. There's a reason GU's combat was so praised when it's nothing special, because it was that much of a step up
This image proves Haseo is gay. He could've played as pic related but he instead went for edgelord mc.slash-wrists
We have Tales of Berseria which is Haseo as a woman except Velvet never calms the fuck down until near the end of the game.
Actually the reason Haseo looks the way he does in-game is because that's exactly what he looks like IRL, just with normal clothes
Didn't they do this exact shit in KotOR but people love those games?
He could've created his characterr as a qt catgrill but noooooo, he went for recreating himself like a fucking normie
>start //GU
>completely confused with the 8 month later thing
Why do devs do this?
watch Roots (but don't)
He went through some shit, dude, give him a break.
That happened 4 years after.
Does anyone know where I can change the mapped keyboard bindings out of the game? I can't get into the options from the first screen.
About to start the game but some stuff in the last thread has me worried. Did they actually make the game way easier or was that just cheat mode shit?
The rebalance made the game easier, yes. There's a damage boost for some reason.
And an exp boost. I don't know why not just an exp boost.
Does someone have an infograph with links to get this packaged downloaded and emulated?
>ROTFL
refunded.
PCSX2
.hack//IMOQ isos
there u go
The exp boost is the worst part, though.
I don't get why they re-released the GU series instead of the first 4.
2006, user.
I'm already familiar. Was asking if there was an infograph to post for these threads.
Nah. The damage boost is.
Because the gameplay is iredeemably shit.
That may make solo run actually feasible
would take a lot more work to remaster the first 4.
this was just to test the waters.
>At the part where you're climbing the arena ranks and Antares meets you
>Go to this dungeon!
>You know, the weird spiral teleporter one (game should have had more missions like this)
>Been skipping side stuff and grinding because of the EXP boost
>Level 15
>This area is level 22
>Well, fuck, it happened
>Try it anyways since the rebalance, even though depending on the monsters, a 7 level difference would be a death sentence in the original version
>Fights take about as long as they used to and give me an entire level per encounter
>Can manage just fine
I'd have bought this game day 1 if it wasn't for the difficulty changes. I think I'll just wait for a price drop now, unless they patch in a Hard Mode or something.
How are the original series and GU related? Do you need to play the original series before playing GU?
the game was always easy
the changes aren't that major, it just makes it so you can just go through the story without grinding out side areas and stuff
but you can still do the side areas and the game is still somewhat challenging if you tackle areas that are higher level than you, especially in solo
all around it's pretty much the same, i think people arent properly remembering the difficulty of the ps2 games
No, but the game comes with terminal disc that explains IMOQ so you will be able to grasp some of the connections in the game.
you don't need to play the original series
they take place in the same world and some characters return, there are plot threads that connect between the two
but the Terminal Disc has some videos that catch you up on the original series
Hey the goblin race shit was hard as fuck.
but was also artificial difficulty as fuck
I think .hack SIGN established pretty clearly that playing as the opposite gender just creates unnecessary problems.
Also wasn't Haseo trying to recover his identity?
Did they change the goblin race difficulty at least? I could never beat it without the glitch.
Eh, all you really need to know is how to boost during turns
If it's the same, it's also likely the glitch is still there. The glitches that let you go out of bounds in mac anu still work, and those were the ones pretty much everyone knew about.
>artificial difficulty
so
what's the verdict
I guess we'll see when I get to volume 2.
That just sounds like FFXII to me
And I liked FFXII
I remember in SIGN Haseo was an edgy 10-year-old that nobody liked.
I like the gameplay of the originals more than GU
I don't like how few abilities you have early on in GU and how much slower it is to get useful items
This remaster reeks of laziness. Those awful textures, the pop in, the glitches, etc. What the fuck. Two and half years for this and a 3hs long new volume?
...
Comfy Saturday .. playing dot hack and super Mario world
Watching some football with my girl
Just had some fruity pebbles
Worked 5 12 hour days last week .. feels good to just fuck about
At least they tried. They fail, and they ruined the original model, but at least they tried. And that aside, overall that remaster is better. Although I know is unfair the comparison.
Terribly unplayable.
Also, the only way we'll ever see IMOQ re-released is if they do a complete remake of the game engine. Everyone hated the Data Drain system and difficulty scaling with magic and debuffs.
have fun user
what is that screenshot from
I know Tidus's face looks like shit in the remaster but that image is a lot worse than it actually is.
It's not from actual release.
>bullying Gaspard
Who would do such a crime?
I would bully the fuck out of that nerd.
I would skull fuck that pink faggot
I can't stand him
I would drove him to suicide like Tsukasa did with grunties.
>he’s a loser irl
>chooses to make a pink fat furry PC
He should have made a character like Ovan or Gabi
>Imagines Ovan or Gabi with Gaspard voice and personality
I think he's fucked no matter what he does. He should just quit world and keep playing crimson vs, and shitpost the forums.
Xp boost is cancer due to how strong the level scaling in the game is. Few extra levels makes the whole game trivial.
They made voice changers though. Hell, Asta uses one! On a side note you think Asta and Iyoten try to do some freaky shit when they’re not PKing newbies
Game was always trivial tho, user
>Likes .Hack yet has a girlfriend
>Enjoys football
>Likes fruity pebbles
>Works 12 hour shifts
What are you? You're not a robot, but you also don't seem like a normalfag. I didn't realize it was possibly to like weeb stuff, football, and have a girlfriend all at the same time. Usually it's one or the other, you're like a walking stereotype of three different groups. You work 12 hour shifts and enjoy sports plus you have a girlfriend, but you are into weeb stuff?
How odd
So, is Gabi a dude or a chick? They call Gabi a 'he' on cutscenes, but on forums they call Gabi a chick
inb4 'I am Gabi in real life :D'
I'm 30 and from Michigan
Union machine repair mechanic
I don't really watch anime ... but I love RPGs
I'm not a robot ... and this isn't r9k or wizchan it's v
I'm playing the new PS4 GU collection (never played these games before).
I'm a JRPG fan and I am enjoying it but wow, this combat is bad.
I'm level 21 so far and I've unlocked 3 boring skills. Otherwise I'm just spamming this same boring clunky dagger combo over and over.
Really really bad combat so far.
You have to be too pathetic to decide being narrowminded is better than improving yourself in whatever things
Oh now I get it, now it makes sense to me. You're a failed normalfag essentially. You have a job, and a girlfriend also you're 30 years old and like sports. Yeah, I'm gonna classify you as a failed normalfag. You don't really belong here, most of us are virgins in our 20's who like traps, anime, and being awkward in public.
Where do you think we are? Are you new here? Go back to /fit/ and reddit.
Fitting here isn't something to be proud of, dude
I like video games which means I belong here.
Pic related fuck you
.Hack G.U isn't really about the combat and gameplay, you're in it more for the story and character development of Haseo. I personally loved the PS2 games, and didn't mind the combat. Yes it is shallow and boring, but I enjoyed it plus the story and characters kept me entertained. Also each volume introduces new things to the game as well, so you can look forward to learning/unlocking new features in each volume. Also once you get to a higher level you'll learn more skills and special techniques like awakenings and rengeki, also in volume 3 you learn avatar awakening which is essentially data drain, it's pretty strong and fun.
Also I hope you look forward to this shitty character design in volume 3, you're essentially wearing some futuristic space suit. I hated Haseo's volume 3 transformation the most, but the edgelord trenchcoat look in volume 4 looks way better.
>liking videogames
whoa whoa
ok dude, now I agree with the guy, you really don't belong here
It's good to fit in somewhere and belong to something, maybe you just don't understand.
How did this thread become so fucking autistic in just ~10 comments?
The world isn't ready for a comfy .hack thread
>watched some of the terminal disc
>They actually got Crispen to re-dub Balmung lines for Infection scenes
do wish we actually got some re-release or remake of the originals but man these bring the nostalgia
I'm on Sup Forums but you're just a dumb nigger
Sad tho that Sup Forums got cancer af so doesn't matter at all where anyone belong, everyone need to get the fuck out of here already
Kill yourself please
The combat would actually have potential if the game was balanced properly.
Sup Forums has had good .hack threads in the past
then again Sup Forums is constantly changing and shit so who knows nowadays
Also Kite is best Kite, Sakuya is cool too though
Kite > Sora > Sakuya > Azure Kite > Shugo (Manga aka 'the canon one') > Shit > Shugo (Anime aka 'the siscon degenerate').
I never saw that CG movie how was it?
That's why I'm still enjoying it.
But the combat is fucking terrible. I really wouldn't recommend this to anyone - I'm willing to put up with a lot.
But literally doing 1 clunky combo over & over infinitely against stupid enemies is not going to be fun for more.
So I just booted up the 4th episode to get a feel for it before I go back to play the whole series up until that point.
Atoli, Silabus, Gaspard, Alkaid, Piros, Kaede, Tabby, and Shino.
Are these the only party members for the entire section? Do more unlock, or nah?
Is the selection limited because they couldn't get the voice actors for the others back, ythink?
>But the combat is fucking terrible.
You must be young, huh.
