Everybody at that time regarded Bruce Lee as an innovator and a great man. A person that pushed martial arts into the forefront of culture forever. There would be no MMA, no street fighter, no nothing without him.
Still, any of the martial artists at the top of their game, at the time had said that he only ever fought in maybe two matches, and would have gotten destroyed by the real fighters in the "blood and guts" era of martial arts. He was a great tactician, theorist and movie star but in no sense a real fighter.
