You know what's funny?

You know what's funny?
The Sonic fanbase groans when SEGA tries to make their 3D Games. However, the Mario fanbase does that when Nintendo makes their New Super Mario Bros games. The Sonic fans want Sonic Team to remember what made Sonic great and go back to the original 2D formula, while Mario fans want Nintendo to stop jerking them off with 2D Mario, even if the NSMB games aren't exactly "bad" per say.

It's because Sega is incompetent and can't make a good 3D game. You could argue they don't even try since 90% of the content in the "3D" games is from a sidescrolling 2D perspective

I think Sonic fans just want a good fucking game and Mario fans want the series to not be stale as shit

this

I'm surprised the 3D Land/World games were well received since it does feel a bit of a downgrade when compared to the open world aspect on Mario 64.

Everything that can be done with 2D mario has been done and it's platform nature makes it east to branch out into 3D
Sonic is suppose to be about speed running/go fast and that dosn't translate all that great into 3D platforming and you either get the weird on the rails racing the adventure games had or the "we don't care" Mario Clone shit of 06 and Unleasehed.

Sonic's speed just doesn't translate well to 3D.

Lost World COULD have been good. It NEARLY got it, but stumbled due to the stiff controls and the lack of momentum.

As a fan of both, I agree.

I honestly felt like it was a step in the right direction. They don't have to go the X-treme planetary angle again, but they were on point with the idea of slowing sonic down to capable and controllable speed instead of the garbage ass mobile-tier rip your ass off and cause an nvidia meltdown spectacle "speed" they've been forcing on us for so fucking long. Not even the Adventure games went that fucking fast.

Once again, the biggest obstacle here (no matter how they do the 3D, be it side-scrolling-flat or open-360-degree) is absolutely MOMENTUM. They've had so many fuck-ups with the past number of games and yet they aren't realizing that this is what is going to make or break the entire stage structure concepts and how speed is going to play into the final executions of said concepts.
Even Mario got on-point with this shit in Mario Odyssey, and you can even see it in the first fucking world where there's throw-away hills, but you can see and feel how Mario's momentum actually changes based on whether he's going up or down and notably so when he's actually rolling around. Hell, even when you chain a roll, to get an extra short push of speed, it's notable.

A FUCKING MARIO GAME HAS BETTER MOMENTUM PHYSICS THAN A SONIC GAME. GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, SEGA.

Don't forget, somehow, a chubby short plumber is MORE NIMBLE than a fast hedgehog in the 3D games. How is that possible?!

>Per say

Speak for yourself faggot. I fucking hate the 2D Sonics and 2D games in general. 3D Mario and 3D Sonic are console sellers for me. Last good 3D Mario was Galaxy 2 and Sonic Unleashed. Everything else after is a boring piece of shit that focuses to much on le classic shit for Youtubers/Redditors as well as nu male journalists.

Agreed. Sonic Unleashed was the best Mario game.

You know what I meant.

That's exactly it.

SEGA can't make a Sonic, 2D or 3D
Nintendo can make excellent 2D and 3D Mario.

>Last good 3D Mario was Sonic Unleashed

>And Sonic, Unleashed

Better?

n o

Then you need to learn some comprehension

Sonic's best outings have been in 2D. Mario's best outings have been in 3D.

Each fanbase just wants what's best for their respective franchise. Is that hard to understand?

But that would mean Sonic Unleashed is good and that's wrong

Well that's because Sonic doesn't work in 3D

>Mario's best outings have been in 3D
Mario has excelled in both

Unleashed and 06 are nothing like Mario
Think you're confusing them with Lost World or Boom

It's more than good, you dumb nigger faggot. SA1, SA2, Heroes, and Unleashed are all great. Shadow, 06, Colors, Generations, Lost World, and Forces are piles of shit

Adventure 2 gamecubetoddler please go

>unleashed is great
>not a pile of shit

Best Sonic game ever made was Rayman Origins

>SA1, SA2, Heroes, and Unleashed are all great.

Better than any other boost game and one of the only 4 Sonic games worth playing. 2D Sonic is fundamentally broken and a slow, slogging, pile of shit unless you waste your life pretending to be good holding down on a hill.

Rayman Origins is trash

this is because the 3D mario games are at a level of quality sonicfans cannot comprehend, while the 2D mario games are good(and better than most 2D sonic ones as well) they can't compete

>Better than any other boost game
Ok

>one of the only 4 Sonic games worth playing
No

abhorrent opinion my dude

>the 3D mario games are at a level of quality sonicfans cannot comprehend
I can comprehend them just fine. They still can't touch 3K

Damn son. If Rayman can nail it better than Sonic ever has, then what's that say about Sonic in general?

>2D Sonic is fundamentally broken and a slow, slogging, pile of shit unless you waste your life pretending to be good holding down on a hill
I'd be interested in seeing you try to elaborate on this point so I can laugh at you and tell you how wrong you are

Yes

Yes

Classic and 2D Sonic was never good. The controls, camera, and speed at which it should play at are not good

3K is the best sonic game and better than all 2D mario but i gets shit on by 64/galaxy 2/odyssey

But you're implying Unleashed is good

Which it isn't

As a Mario and Nintendo fan, eventually you grow tired of just replaying the same game
The thing Nintendo used to do so well was incredibly fresh and innovative ideas attached to friendly faces

uh are you saying this isn't what odyssey is?

Don't own a Switch because I was burnt by the Wii U and I don't trust Nintendo not to abandon it like they did with the Dreamcast 2.0

ok then yeah 3D world was whatever, galaxy 2 is phenomenal though

Having to hold a button to go max speed was a deal breaker for me. The levels ranged from okay to terrible but I liked many ideas they had.

Galaxy 1 & 2 were beautiful imaginative games and Galaxy 1 was a game where I left it and did actually want more, it's just that modern Nintendo just can't take the fucking hint anymore when people say "no thanks", like making another game very similar to Sticker Star right after people exhibited an overwhelming distaste for it

>Classic and 2D Sonic was never good
>The controls, camera, and speed at which it should play at are not good
What did he mean by this

Oh hey it's the exact same thread again.

See you guys tomorrow at the new one.

>The Sonic fans want Sonic Team to remember what made Sonic great
FTFY

The percentage of fans that want 2D only games are very small. Most fans realize that 3D is where Sonic can really flourish in the right hands. (Read: Not Sonic Team's. They find something that even kind of works, call it "good enough", and milk it until people get sick of it, rather than actually bothering to build upon it and improve it.

People say Sonic Team are simply retarded, but I'm really starting to think that it's Sega of Japan's internal politics that keep hack frauds like IIzuka or Nakamura around to fuck up 3D Sonic. Every other branch of Sega hates SoJ's guts because they're always having to clean up their messes, especially when it comes to Sonic's. (Though Sega of Europe can be pretty fucking retarded too and are almost as bad as SoJ are.) The fact that Iizuka suggested Mania in the first place is nothing short of a cosmic fuck up. The man simply has no good ideas in him when it comes to literally anything else regarding Sonic. Multiple playstyles in SA1? The thing that split up development resources for SIX different game modes, and pretty much doomed SA1 to being a fragile, unpolished, mediocre first step into 3D? All Iizuka's idea. Literally every single problem 3D Sonic has can be traced back to Iizuka in some way, and yet, here he is, almost 20 years later still calling the shots.

Stuff like this makes me think that "I wish Sonic would be bought by Nintendo." posts aren't so retarded after all. I mean, how much fucking worse can you manage this franchise than Sega has?

>EA, Activision, Microsoft, etc...

I mean, sure, but it would just as easily be fucking dead with any of them. Which might be for the best at this point tbqh. Or maybe just release another Mania-like title and let Sonic go out on a high note so we can finally end his suffering.

You should play Odyssey.

>2D Sonic is fundamentally broken and a slow, slogging, pile of shit unless you waste your life pretending to be good holding down on a hill.
Boost Sonic is fundamentally broken and an automated, linear, pile of shit unless you waste your life pretending to be good holding boost on an anything.
