Is it too late to get into Starcraft? Is the game truly dead?

Is it too late to get into Starcraft? Is the game truly dead?

Apparently it has about 2.5 million regular players. So not really dead. It going F2P will bring in more people.

it is not dead but there aren't that many new players so expect to lose a lot of online matches

There are still plenty of players and ladder is going free some time this month.

But you know this and it's why you're making this thread for a pittance isn't it?

The whole ded gaem thing is a meme. The playerbase has been relatively stable for years now.

Actually it's BY FAR the biggest RTS.

Genuine curiosity.
What race is the best for a new player to learn the game?

will the free ladder include all the latest units and stuff added in expansions?

>decide to try this multiplayer RTS thing since ive always enjoyed playing campaigns and vs AI
>there's no actual strategy involved, it's just two players trying to see who can mimic a pro build order faster

Why not play Dark Souls instead?

Yes. But you will need to win 1 game each day for 10 days to unlock ranked multiplayer. This is to prevent massive smurfing.

Except that's bullshit, because there are no universal builds in SC2 that work in every situation. You will always need to adjust according to your opponent. The mantra is:

If your opponent attacks = defend.
If your opponent defends = expand.
If your opponent expands = attack.

Each of these things can be done in a multitude of ways, with a wide variety of units, which all require different approaches from both players.

t. top 1% SC2 player

But it will start massive smurfing. I mean legitimate new player won't be able to do that, while smurf will easily.

It's going free on November 14, expect a influx of new players
I myself would play it if i had a GPU

>I mean legitimate new player won't be able to do that

>create custom game
>7v1
>pair yourself with 7 insane AIs set to rush vs 1 very easy one
>get your win in ~2 minutes

vs AI games count?

zerg if you have adhd and love to click everywhere all the time.
terran if you like to press a button to suddenly deal huge damage.
protoss if you dislike the other two.

zerg is the most defensive race. terran is a close second. protoss is balanced.

either way, prepare to click all the time. it's not a RTS, it's a clicking simulator.

It's going F2P so it's actually the best time to get into it. If you're into that sort of thing.
For me I've already been in it and bored so now I'm out.

>Apparently it has about 2.5 million regular players

What a load of fucking horseshit. Typical ActiBlizz number fluffing.

i just got into it finding my old WoL key, it's not dead at all

fuck starcraft

get into supreme commander instead, the superior rts. Still going strong on faf

It's not dead, but most modern gamers are too shit to play RTS games. That's why they're super into MOBAs, they're much easier. Also, unlike MOBAs, you can't pretend that you're loss is due to your teammates, you have to accept that you have to actually get better, and people don't want to accept that they have to improve themselves.

In one of my earlier games i did a simple 'blink into base" with my stalker and wrecked my opponent, to which he eloquently asks "tienes hak?"
People will always find excuses to their loss

Blizzard murdered the game and raped the corpse. LotV was so bad people don't even want to WATCH it anymore.

Arcade mod is pretty lively

>there are no universal builds in SC2 that work in every situation
Adept phoenix
roach ravager all in
air toss

Forget SC2 and play SC1 instead

I've been playing the game for years and to this day I still haven't written a single build order down.

>This is to prevent massive smurfing.
what a load of dung. battle.net had "make as many accounts as you like"

truly activision-blizzard is cancer
