If I was a kid owning a decent PC in 2017, I'd be the happiest kid in the world. Just imagine how better these kids have it than we did. Almost all online games are free or have a free equivalent. A complete surplus of Japanese games once a rarity. Every genre present in some way. So many emulators in good state now. Can do and play whatever you want without barely spending a dime.

Just admit, if we were kids again we would love games more now than ever. The only thing working against us would be the sheer quantity of options.

I imagine that if I were a kid nowadays, I'd be wasting my time getting obsessed over a shitty free to play game filled with micro transactions. It may be good to be a kid, but it's even better to be an adult with a good quality PC.

well I got to enjoy runescape when it was good and the playerbase wasn't dog shit

Runescape was never good.

neither were video games, checkmate

I'm not so sure, there is more options, but the vast majority of it is utter shit and a kid doesn't have the patience or ability to wade through it all to find the good gems, most kids in my family play the same shitty f2p game over and over or minecraft, they don't even seem that interested in gaming as I used to be, they don't see it as something special, to them it's just another thing like watching shitty youtube vids.

If I was a rich kid sure. But when I could buy PS2 games for $30 with money I made on doing classmates' essays for them, I was a fuckload happier than I would be if I had to do the same today. Especially with all of this micro transaction cuckery and the fact that I wouldn't have grown up to watch gaming evolve dramatically.

I thought about this, but it's not that true.

I had an amazing pc back in 2007 and had access to emulators for GBA, NES etc and was enjoying playing the new generation of consoles that had released. But the emulators were only fun for so long - now I find myself playing ps2 emulators because that was what was new when I was in gaming.

So I don't think a kid nowadays would enjoy ps2 emulators sadly even thougj there are magnitudes of free games to play. I think they only care about the newest releases to talk about with friends, sadly. I used to have amazing fun playing counter strike with close friends, and it's sad this kind of stuff doesn't exist like it used to.

>Just admit, if we were kids again we would love games more now than ever

That's because children are easily impressed.

>Almost all online games are free or have a free equivalent.
So they were in 2003 when i first got high-speed internet.
>A complete surplus of Japanese games once a rarity.
I dont think japanese games were rare. Most of nes/snes library consist of japanese games. It's just the autistic anime-games they didnt release in the western world
>So many emulators in good state now.
Why would kids play emulated old games? They are only good because of nostalgica. Did you as a child dig up your uncles atari when you already had an nes?
>Just admit, if we were kids again we would love games more now than ever.
I dont think i could love games anymore than i did back when i was a kid.

I'm not sure about that. Gaming was a growing market when we were kids, especially the older gentlemen lurking this board.

What says is true. A lot of games out there are total shit. And there's a lot of them. App stores are full of free, low quality cash grabs. Even some AAA console and PC games are playing it so safe that they all play the same. The market is totally saturated. Gaming is everywhere. Budgets for games have surpassed movies now. Its like we're back near the gaming crash of the 1980s, except the shit publishers are pushing out is seen as normal now. Investors are concerned with short-term profits so companies don't care about their legacy as long as they make a profit. Worst that could happen is the investors pull their money and the company folds, then re-forms under a different name with the same people running the show. The gaming industry landscape has completely changed.

>playing games
>not watching your favorite lets player

That feel when you realize games are now being made that are more interesting to watch than they are to play

How did this happen

Kill them all

Get the fuck out redditors

I don't agree, first off, a lot of your choices in whatever tends to be garbage and whatever free equivalent will most of the time, be even more trash.

More choices is not always a good thing if the quality of said choices are all trash. That being said, children have a higher tolerance for a lot of garbage, so yeah, I probably "would" be happy, but looking back on it as an adult I'd be very jaded about it. I can still easily go back and play some of my favorites like kirby superstar or digimon world 1, while still having a good time.

>digimon world 1

There was some good quality games that came out during the PS1 era but Digimon World 1 was not one of those. It was a blatant cash grab by using the franchise name, which wasn't even that popular anyway and was eclipsed by Pokemon on every corner. It's actually a good example of bad games from that time.

t. Kept getting numemon and didn't know how to fucking play the game.
Not being casual friendly doesn't make a game bad.

Growing up playing MUDs like Gemtstone III/IV, Dragon's Gate, and Modus Operandi was the most fun I've ever had in gaming. My first time playing Gemstone was a majestic feeling that I'll probably never experience again with another game.

You just enjoy shit game design my man. Its ok to enjoy shit right?

>I don't know how a game works, so it's shit!!!
Are you a video game journalist?

I wanted a good PC when I was a kid, so I started going around and offering to mow lawns in the summer/ shovel snow in the winter for some cash.
All the boomers in the town got mad that I wasn't doing it for free.

No I'm a guy who doesn't like shitty games. You're going to sit here and tell me Digimon World is the kino of PS1 games you're fucking high as a motherfucker.

I just liked chopping trees

Now that you're older and (presumably) smarter, you should try playing it again. I understand being a brainlet is tough when trying to appreciate good games, my condolences.

>good games
>Digimon World

I dont know what you're smoking but its time to cut back. Seek help.
