Team designed are flawed by nature, there's always a guy with ping, lag, troll or whatever, that's 2/5 of your games. Then probably 1/2 of the other games you got an invisible handicap, maybe someone is distracted, tired, or just not giving for X reason (In blizz games you also need to add forced50 games). So in the end only small portion of your games were fair or fun, it's just not worth it.

I think the key is to empower a good player to carry, instead of being held hostage by very bad or intentionally disruptive players.
I think the game needs to be designed defensively so that the mechanics limit the ability of certain synergies to break the game as it were. Guilty Gear's assorted defensive mechanics, like progressive gravity for example serve this purpose.

HotS and Awesomenauts are better mobas than average because they shave out a lot of the defining characteristics of mobas.

Character power is also extremely easy to judge based on team level and talents. >Nauts has no laning phase at all and only requires last hitting for long-range farming, prioritizes abilities over autoattacks damage-wise, and autoattacks must be manually aimed. Maps are extremely small by moba standards so you don't have to prioritize heavily between pushing/farming and fighting. Fights break out all the fucking time. Also uses character-specific upgrades but has more standard moba economy, compensating for by controlling like a Contra clone instead of a one-unit RTS. >Both games last less than 20 minutes on average.
