>it's real

woa graham chapman is alive?

I hope they focus on the orcs. I hate how they're portrayed as the bad guys in the books and movies

>game of thrones style

NO

FUCK YOU

LOTR IS NOT ABOUT INCEST AND LOL SO MATURE TITTIES AND VIOLENCE BULLSHIT

IT'S A PURE HEROIC FANTASY SERIES ABOUT GOOD AND EVIL, STRUGGLE, AND OVERCOMING HARDSHIP

What does this have to do with video games?

Will it explore Sauron’s tax policy? I have always been interested in that

Fucking kikes better not ruin lotr

They are the bad guys in the books. Tolkien seems them as a representation of industrialization and market capitalism, two things he felt were destroying Western civilization.

I don't think he means they are going to make LOTR into the style of Game of Thrones. He just means he wants a fantasy show that's massively successful and for people to start taking Amazon Prime shows seriously.

>implying elves didnt marry their cousins
come on now.

even boromir was bethrothed to his cousin, LothĂriel a princess of gondor.

shit, aragorn and arwen are cousins too.

tolkien had a huge incest fetish.

>lort isnt about violence.
yeah, battle of helms deep, battle of westfold, batle of minas tirith, battle of osgiliath , even the battle for the shire.even the silmarillion is filled with battles. come on now. if LORT is about anything, its about war and the bonds hardship create.

>Game of Thrones style
oh, so it'll be about the new steward implementing Aragorn's tax policy throughout all of Gondor?

Nah, need to make it accessible to normies. Most normies think that GoT is already a deeply intellectual and complicated show.

Aragorn and Arwen are cousins but also way removed with tons of generations on Aragorn's side. I mean, her grandfather is Earendil and her Uncle Elros was the first King of Numenor.

buddy if you think Tolkien glorified (or fetishized the way GoT does) war or violence in any way you should fuck off back to Shadow of War

just fuck my lifes work up senpai

t. tolkein

the one they spammed ads on twitch seemed decent. dont remember the name. it was about some gods

They represent Muslims.

People bred for war and conquest.

*huff* WELL *puff* WELL DUHHHH-*fart*DOONE TOLKIEN. WELL *wheeze* DONE. HOWEEEEH*heart stops* HOWEVER WHAT *braps* WHAT WAS ARAGORN'S TAX POLICY?

Why are people triggered by this?

>Aragorn and arwen are cousins
>forgets the generations of dunedain that seperate them.

>tfw tolkien died before seeing this.
>Chris will die soon.

I hope Christopher finds a way to bury the rights indefinately.

> Imagine being Christopher Tolkien
> Father told you these tales as a kid
> Brought the both of you closer together
> Father hands you his estate when he dies
> Continue his legacy and argue his legitimacy for decades
> ... sees pic related

They mean an episodic TV series that makes bank you fucking sperg. They aren't gonna make Bilbo fuck his cousin and stab everyone at his birthday party.

I am afraid I don't understand your meme

Game of thrones is gratuitous violence for the sake of shock value and glorifies war. Tolkien fought in the Somme, his experience of the horrors of war is reflected in his writing. Anyone who isn't a fucking mongoloid can see that.

Lotr doesnt work as a tv series. Any character drama you create to give the show purpose gonna feel forced.
lotr is about good vs evil.

>cousins, not explicit bro on sis rape
>war and strife manufactured by satan's servant (Sauron) and his orc army (who are also evil)
>instead of unlikable pieces of shit killing each other for land

>They aren't gonna make Bilbo fuck his cousin and stab everyone at his birthday party.
Too bad. I'd pay for that.

"A wizard's bills are never late, he pays them precisely when he means to"

>from the studios that brought you Shadow of Mordor/War and The Hobbit
Why indeed.

I didn't get an answer

>this will repeat itself
youtube.com/watch?v=SQkygZdZ_Vk

I can't wait for them to cast Idris Elba as Aragorn or some shit.

Could be worse, could be WAY worse than injecting a little..slapstick?...comedy. Could just be my inner cuck talking though. Hard to think otherwise though seeing so many IP's get violated to hell and back. Guess that's the nature of capitalism.

If this was anything else I'd maybe MAYBE slightly believe you but an episodic TV show where they make explicit mention of GoT and Hollywood's basic incompetence when it comes to doing anything unique screams that it won't be that Bilbo fucks his cousin no it will be like something out of a brutal ryona rape doujin with his cousin getting mind broken by orcs and he'll get his dick cut off and some kids will get their heads cut off and some random guy on the side of the road will stick is dick in their mouths.
Everyone that knows Hollywood are talent-less hacks who are more focused on marketing (Like a certain other overly money hungry part of an industry) know that this is the kind of thing we should expect if this happens.
One thing is for certain though this shit will be R18+ and not something you'd feel comfortable showing your kids like your parents showed you LOTR.

>idris elba as the witch king.
I would be OK with that.

Are you mentally handicaped?

Not an argument.

Why do you think people watch Game of Thrones?

>Jared Leto spends 3 weeks living in the woods for his role as legolas

Who cares? It's not like they're going back and fucking with the Lord of the Rings movies.

No, they represent evil. Tolkien had said many times that he disliked allegory and didn't want his work to be taken as such. He was trying to make a modern mythology, not a WOW SO DEEP story with hamfisted parallels to reality.

Lord of the rings: return of the kangz

To further expound on this - Arwen was already 2000 years old by the time Arathorn II was killed and Aragorn and his mother came to live in Rivendell.

do people even use Amazon Prime's tv service?

/lit/ memes aren't worth understanding

American Gods.
It was okay, decent fun. Based on a book.

/lit/ is a riot, user.

my sides have just met the hubble space telescope

Christopher is in his 90s now, dark days are ahead.

LotR had a good run, I wouldn't be sad if it died off now.

I would, i want my son to grow up with untainted LOTR i hope these faggots don't fuck it all over

The books, the good movies, and the good games that have been made will always exist. They can't unmake the good stuff. There's even a lot of good music.

youtube.com/watch?v=Kl1rroJOZzw

This motherfucker ok'ed the Shadow of War games. He clearly doesn't give a shit.

Thats all well and good but his stories were still informed by history and mythology.

This does not completely deprive them of inquiry.

Aren't all of Tolkien's works going to be public domain in a couple decades anyhow?

No he didn't, he's fought tooth and nail to stop shit like that from happening.

Disney will keep paying hand over fist to keep copyright law trashed,

Death of the Author + 70 years

Tolkien died in 1973. That shit isn't going public domain until 2043.

ITS NOT TIME TO MAKE A CHANGE
JUST SIT DOWN
TAKE IT SLOWLY
YOUR STILL YOUNG
THATS YOUR FAULT
THERES SO MUCH YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH

It's fine to say "To me, orcs represent X" or "I find ulterior meaning in the story with Y," but orcs aren't meant to be an allegory for Nazis or Muslims or anything else. They're meant to be the evil in the story. You can't ever fully escape from allegory, and there's something to be said about the death of the author in a work. However, saying that "Tolkien sees them as X" is fucking stupid because he himself has said that he didn't want allegory to be a major part of his story, even if it's completely impossible to remove all allegory.

Some things are better kept under copyright laws because too many people will completely wreck it because they don't respect or fully understand it.

No he didnt. Tolkien sold the rights to LOTR and the Hobbit in the 60s. Fortunately the Silmarillion and other works are safe.

> Invited to meet Peter Jackson, the Tolkien family preferred not to. Why? "They eviscerated the book by making it an action movie for young people aged 15 to 25," Christopher says regretfully. "And it seems that The Hobbit will be the same kind of film."

> This divorce has been systematically driven by the logic of Hollywood. "Tolkien has become a monster, devoured by his own popularity and absorbed into the absurdity of our time," Christopher Tolkien observes sadly. "The chasm between the beauty and seriousness of the work, and what it has become, has overwhelmed me. The commercialization has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing. There is only one solution for me: to turn my head away."

>yfw you realize 2043 is just a couple decades away

>for people to start taking Amazon Prime shows seriously.
Man in the High Castle is pretty darn good tbqh. Is everything else they make shit or something?

no he didn't you absolute nigger.

I'll be in my 60s, I won't give a fuck.

How many black people will be in it?

>"They eviscerated the book by making it an action movie for young people aged 15 to 25,"
Hes not talking about LotR is he?

If there is a single one it's one too many and i wont watch

I was being facetious with my first point about Muslims although i do believe that could have infomed his creative process.

Lack of allegory or not; his works are Christian in nature and portray a Christian message. Like his orthodox belief though, these things were not merely parable but speaking of tangible threats and underlying hope available to humanity.

Why do they all look so outdated?
The LotR movies were like 4 years ago right?
R... Right? ;_;

I am going to audition for a man of far harad just to spite you.

I'm not really concerned about race but we've got a good chance they'll inject a Tauriel-esque character into the fellowship, maybe Arwin will be a general member of the party and will be doing retarded flips and shit like legolas.

Can't wait for the entire cast to be niggers for some reason.

He is right you know.

But I mean, what about the honest love the fans have for the books? What about the many new fans that were made through the films? He can preach all her wants about the beauty and seriousness of the work, but at the end of the day it would be nothing without other people to give that creation it's current worth. Now, that is not to say that we have any right to trample on the respect the world that Tolkien made, but creations are made to be shared.

Not really. Dracula and Frankenstein have been public domain since forever and are still cultural icons and their best works are still recognized and the shit has fallen away into nothingness.

I mean it's not like Batman, Mickey Mouse, Spider-Man, and every other character that corporations own and don't want to give up haven't already been "wrecked", had material made about them by people who don't respect or fully understand them. Most owned properties are already fanfictions. They haven't been written or published by their original creators in decades. Most characters now that are owned IPs are just controlled by retarded corporate suits who use them as money printers. There's no "sacredness" of a character that is preserved by having the IP owned by something like Disney.

If anything, an IP becoming public domain means that people who love and respect the property the most are allowed to create stories with it.

>Amazon Prime presents: Lawrd of da Rangz: The Adventures of Flow-dough Baggins and Samwise Ganja
>WB presents: Lawrd of da Rangz: The TV Series: The Game
It's going to be utterly shit. Childhood ruined as any future movie or game will remind everyone of this abomination and hate it by association, especially if said game were to be made by EA or some equally degenerate dev.

sixteen years
i was 4 when fotr came
out

Despite being kept under copyright law, LOTR has been completely wrecked by too many people not respecting or fully understanding it.

>tfw the army of the dead seemed so cool in the theaters.
>then you realize how more poetic they were in the book.

I was 22
Fuck

CONCERNING KANGZ

>creations are made to be shared.

Its is not merely that it is shared but that it is cynical in nature. LOTR has become a product; a product which people appreciate for shallow reasons.

They could make a LOTR game which completely misses the point of Tolkiens books but has the aesthetic and people will lap it up; because they only know the product and not the serious and sincere work.

>tfw I first watched fotw a year ago and fucked my gf in the ass during the moria scene
wonder what jrr would have made of that

I was more put off by the first person that made a remark, because it made a more direct statement of Tolkien's intent. The comment about Muslims was also more obvious shitposting.

Yeah, all of his stuff is written with a Christian worldview. He said himself that even though he doesn't like allegory, it's not exactly something you can do away with. Whether you realize it or not, you're always going to be subconsciously putting your worldview into everything you create, even if it's just a little bit. I just think it's important to appreciate the more straightforward, hopeful story-telling in Lord of the Rings, especially now that most media is obsessed with portraying the world in this shitty, gritty, "morally-grey", "realistic" way that's really exhausting and depressing but fuck it Game of Thrones was popular.

Shadow of Mordor/War and The Hobbit movies are at the the limit of what I would personally call acceptable fanfiction. It can easily get worse than them once anyone can get their money grubbing paws on it. Surprisingly, Lord of the Rings Online respects the original material fairly well while still clearly being fanfiction.

This joke has been done to death already.
youtube.com/watch?v=O8jW19Ibjyo

LOTR is kinda boring to me compared to the First Age shit in the Silmarillion. If someone could do justice to even one of the stories in it, I'd be in heaven, but neither the movie nor the vidya industry is capable.

why are their heads stuck?

>They could make a LOTR game which completely misses the point of Tolkiens books but has the aesthetic and people will lap it up; because they only know the product and not the serious and sincere work.
That is the risk you take in being a creator. Everything has been degraded, sanitized and simplified to some extent from movies (Star Wars) to religion (Christianity). Sure, we can look at this and choose to lock everything we hold dear away, lest it be tainted by the shallow masses but that just promotes people to treat their ideas like a painting on display that people can only look at and comment on and not try to experience for themselves in some way.

But I don't think praising Christopher for keeping the Silmarillion stories locked away is the answer. We want to see these stories told, we want to experience them in new ways to further express our joy at having had the pleasure of indulging in it.

>Tolkien seems them as a representation of industrialization and market capitalism, two things he felt were destroying Western civilization.
source: your ass

I already saw the stories told and I don't want to experience them in new ways.
