So now that the Switch finally has a good game, Odyssey, can we finally admit pic related was really not very good?

We can admit that Odyssey is better but Zelda is still very good
But BotW is better than Odyssey.
Zelda is better though. Even Sup Forums agreed
BotW was a nice take on a stagnant genre. Odyssey is just another Mario game.
Why do you so doggedly persist in posting these bait threads?
How can you say that? The whole game is just climbing a tower, marking some glowing shit, and then running to the glowy shit and solving some baby-tier puzzles. The overworld is largely boring/empty and just serves to artificially extend playtime. Aside from a few brief moments of genius, it's pretty much absolute shit.
another poll
sigh... all these wrong opinions... don't people on Sup Forums ever get tired of being wrong?
Odyssey is a better game, BoTW is like a really impressive physics demo.
What if they are both alright?
>discussion is bait
>the only nu/v/ approved threads are porn and hype threads
Maybe its time to delete the board.
All Mario is has is just collecting easy moons that aren't challenging. And no, the post game only had 2 or 3 "hard' moons. Jumping on an umbrella or long jumping to get a moon out in the open isn't good game design.
and from the odyssey board on gamefaqs
Alright is not good. These are $60 games, not $3 dollar steam sale games. They need to be a little better than alright.
Again, why do you so doggedly persist in posting these bait threads?
Jesus Christ Odyssey utterly BTFO
>All Mario is has is just collecting easy moons that aren't challenging. And no, the post game only had 2 or 3 "hard' moons. Jumping on an umbrella or long jumping to get a moon out in the open isn't good game design.
Oh sorry, I guess Switch has no good games then. Thanks for opening my eyes.
Why does it have to be a competition?
But Both was good user.
Okay, but where is a poll from a board that isnt full of normalfags?
Because people are pretending BotW is good when it definitely is not. It's okay now. You don't have to pretend any more.
Well that's simply not true. I like Odyssey more but Zelda was really good and did a number of unique things for an open world game. My only issues with it are that the rewards for quests and things are generally pretty weak and the weapon durability system, while not as horrible to me as some seemed to find, was a misguided attempt to solve a problem in open world games where the majority of weapons are actually never used since players just stick to whatever the best thing currently available is.
Here I am just loving the shit out of both games. Is FEW good?
first one is from Sup Forums, redditor
Wow you aren't even trying lad.
>Is FEW good?
>is a spin-off of the infamously shit dynasty warriors just as infamous for its infamously shitty spin-offs good?
Of course not, but if you like eating shit, and boy I know you do, I'm sure you'll love it! Give nintendo every penny you have!
I wish I could like this game. I feel like it's my gamerly duty to really love this game, and acknowledged how it is clearly superior to other open world games...But I just don't feel it. I can appreciate the game very much on a technical and mechanical level, but it just so utterly bores me, the world is so boring. When I play, what ends up sticking the most are the minor nuisances and annoyances....the rain, the item durability, the samey shrines...The concept of having to map your way around rocky topography is really cool at first, but it gets old quickly, especially when you see how boring the world is and you'll mostly just find a shrine or something. For a game focused on exploration it just feels like there's way too much fumbling with menus and way too little of anything interesting to discover.. And because of the item durability I find myself not even engaging any enemies and just running past, it's not even worth it. It's annoying seeing all those repetitive moblin camps all over the map. I'm also disappointed by the lack of much music
I try to play this game, but soon into my play sessions I just get bored...The concept of navigating around all that topography and going all across the map seems interesting until you realize there's really no point. I find myself just thinking its not worth it. Can anyone else relate? I feel like I should really love this game but there's just something about it that I can't get into.
>first one is from Sup Forums
Yeah, I said normalfags. What is the source of your confusion?
Nintendo games aren't fun unless you're fucking 12.
Overall I think I liked BotW more than Odyssey. They're both great games, everyone is a winner.
t. normalfag
I have the game. It's not good. It's single player GW2.
Guys. Can we PLEASE stop pretending to like Nintendo? Im fucking autistic and I can't comprehend that people have different opinions then me. I can honestly say that Nier: Automato, Horizon Zero Dawn®℠™, and its DLC Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds®℠™ (only $19.99 btw) for the RoachStation4®℠™ are FAR better games than "Mario Odyssey" and " Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild" for the Shitch (both 6/10 rehashed games fucking Nintendo bonus baka).
I disagree?
Whatever helps you sleep at night, nintendogaf.
With? Do you disagree in that you think single player GW2 is actually appealing? I don't understand.
literally SEETHING.
>post yfw you're a Switch owner
I liked it a lot but I understand where you are coming from. I struggled with the controls/menu too for a while but got more familiar with fast swapping so I didn't have much of a problem later on. It's very hard for a lot of people to get over hording their weapons as well.
I disagree in that I think it is a good game because I got many hours of enjoyment out of it.
It's meh and I really fucking hate the fanbase.
BotW is incredible, I refuse to follow the contrarian meme.
So you agree that it is single player GW2? Try being more specific, buddy.
>makes a bait thread trying trying to shit on botw
>said thread backfires
>i-it ain't me i swear fuck nintetoddlers REEEEE
Fag.
Why is BotW so disappointing
>inb4 "it's not"
>Odyssey is just another Mario game.
>just another Mario game.
Sup Forums was a mistake.
You're trying too hard to turn this bait into a debate user. So I'm just gonna leave.
Mostly the empty map and generally boring atmosphere. There are some genuinely good moments like when you first have to cross a cold area and need to hold a torch to get past it, and since you can't climb with a lit torch the area more or less eventually leads you up a huge winding mountain trail to a NPC you weren't expecting to see quite yet. Stuff like that is genius. Unfortunately it's largely rushing to POIs in the most efficient way possible to do uninteresting puzzles or quickly kill some things for a treasure chest. There isn't a whole lot of moments where the game feels like a real adventure. Oh and the OST is really fucking bad.
>Sonyfags have long given up on competing with Nintendo
>instead now shit post acting as if there is an internal conflict between Zelda and Mario fans
Bitch, both are great games. Zelda does what it should have done in the 64 era and Mario has continued to be Mario since 64.
I say BotW is going to take GOTY, but that isn't to say Odyssey wasn't as great, but that there might be a bit of discount for it just being Mario where BotW made huge improvements since Skyward Sword.
Sup Forums got BTFO by Nintendo and their new Zelda. It doesn't matter how you try and spin it, Breath Of The Wild won't stop being a masterpiece.
Nah, you're probably a braindead pussy faggot that has no argument other than "I liked it" who has probably barely played any video games outside of basic bitch shit and cannot hold a discussion. Lurk for 2 years and try again. Bye bye.
BotW is the most overrated piece of shit game ever made. I bought a switch last week to play Mario and got 500 moons a few days ago, so I figured I would try out Zelda since everyone creamed their pants over it 8 months ago.
I'm about 10 hours in and holy shit this game is boring and tedious as hell. Going back to Kakoriko village to beat the shrine that makes you use motion controls was the last straw for me. Thanks for convincing me to waste 60$ on actual garbage Sup Forums
Lets break it down
>things odyessey does right
Everything
>things BoTW does right
Physics
Doesn't guide you by filling your map with markers, in fact they give you the markers and you put them where you want
Very related to the physics but Hyrule felt like more of a real place than any other open world game I've played, being able to interact with the world makes such a difference.
>what BoTW does wrong
weapon durability
weak quest rewards
exploring is cool, especially with how they let you mark up the map yourself, but the only things to find are seeds and shrines
weak music, I respect that they wanted to do something different here but it just didn't work for me
I'd say what Zelda gets right it gets very right but it gets things wrong too, Mario on the other hand, while not really revolutionary in any way, is basically perfect imo.
Mario is probably the better and more polished game, but Zelda was more memorable to me. Both are great though. Hopefully Prime 4 is great as well.
But user, I have a good PC, a PS4, a Switch, a 3DS, and a Vita. BotW sucks.
>he didn't just flip his controller upside down
t.brainlet
thanks 4 buying the switch and supporting nintendo ;)
So basically Breath of the Wild is the new Skyrim. A game that Sup Forums liked until it got popular but that looking at objectively is a game that is so big that it has many flaws but ultimately makes up for them by sheer volume of content.
It was really good though? Solid 8.5/10 game.
Most of the issues people have with this game come from some bizzare expectation that literally everything in the game must be unique and interesting after 100 hours...
The shrines are repetitive, but the game design clearly didn't intend you to do all of them. I played 40 hours, did everything I felt like doing, killed Ganon, and called it a day. I'm not an autist who felt the need to 100%, so once the shrines wore thin I stopped doing them.
The combat was fun, the world was interesting to explore, there wasn't any stupid shit forced down your throat, and setting was well realized and full of interesting characters and situations, even if you only dealt with them shallowly.
The plot was shit, as was the voice acting, and the lack of real dungeons sucked. The boss battles were a joke for the most part. Other than those three points though, the other complaints people have are things that don't even pop up until two dozen hours after most games have already worn out their welcome.
Honestly I think the main issue is just that everyone can easily see how to improve it, because it is so large in scope that many systems were not realized as fully as a more focused game could.
Also the fact that it's harder to swim across a meandering, slow moving river than climb a cliff is silly as hell.
>Doesn't guide you by filling your map with markers, in fact they give you the markers and you put them where you want
>sends you up ass creed towers to put marks on giant glowing orange things
>somehow this is a huge difference
wow we really fucking did it nintenbros, goty
i did after 15 minutes of trying to play it the way it was intended. Still shit
>implying it wasn't their plan all along for you to flip it upside down
As do I, but I disagree, BotW was great.
I agree with the polish, Mario is their mascot and all.
Hoping MP4 gets lots of love, as well as other future installments to other franchises.
I really like the switch though, and Mario Odyssey is one of my top 5 games of all time. I'm just really fucking disappointed in this new Zelda since I loved the OoT
>foxandgrapes.jpg
Lol nier automata and persona 5. Weebs need to be gassed
It's an absolutely amazing gaming experience. This is the Zelda game I've waited 20 years to play and Nintendo not only nailed it, exceeded my expectations.
>sonic mania isnt mentioned
so you didn't add the obvious choice and this is just a list of runner-ups
It's because every discovery you make is your own.
It's because getting from A to B involves more than just looking at your mini-map and pushing forward. Nintendo made topographical navigation fun and engaging.
>foxandgrapes.jpg
What a load of shit, nintendo fans will be the first ones to call a game shit because its too hard for them to play. I have a Switch. I have BotW. The case for it is 10 feet away from me.
Playing it on an emulator and really enjoying it for so many reasons to the point where I could see how it could be goty, but even with all the cool ideas and things of the sort, I never feel drawn in to learn the lore or get invested in the characters or places. Even when in the colder areas or desert it feels silly when I can turn the camera just slightly and see a huge patches of grassy fields
No not really. It's better then Skyrim for sure. And it's not volume of content that gets it by that's actually where it's kind of weak, like I said there's only seeds and shrines to find pretty much. What makes it good is the presentation and the systems based game play.
All the "wow!" moments in the game for me were honestly from discovering all the little interactions. That's not to shit on the game though really like I honestly loved that shit and I wish that level of interaction was standard in all games.
Will Prime 4 be open worldish with a shitton of stuff to collect like Odyssey and BotW?
>with a shitton of stuff to collect
*SCAN
>It's because every discovery you make is your own.
No it isn't, everything is designed to stand out and be seen from the towers.
>It's because getting from A to B involves more than just looking at your mini-map and pushing forward.
No, it's not. You do the tower mini-game and that follow the marker. It's like selecting a destination on google maps. You are not orienteering or following directions a NPC gave you. Holy fuck, do you people play anything outside of nintendo?
We don't know but I'd say probably not, I mean Mario being like this is nothing new it's the same design as 64/Sunshine just there are more moons. It was new for Zelda but you can see how it's not that much of stretch to go open world with that game.
Metroid is different though, it would be very weird I think to make it open world. It's always been about navigating heavily interconnected maze like environments and getting into new areas by getting new shit. How big can you make that really and still have it be fun? That said they still might try.
I assume your just baiting again, but how in the fuck can you even mockingly make a statement that stupid? Aside from the map mechanics and open world aspect they have nothing in common.
It's not the destination it's the journey, I haven't played Odyssey and don't plan to because I don't own a switch, but I've been enjoying BotW even though the world is barren. Mostly because movement options are more interesting than what's usually done in open worlds. I assume Mario gets appraise from people on Sup Forums because of how fun he is control with how the hat gives him new movement options.
>Aside from the map mechanics and open world aspect
So the whole game?
>everything is designed to stand out and be seen from the towers.
Jesus Christ did you even play the game?
>You do the tower mini-game and that follow the marker. It's like selecting a destination on google maps
Oh, you didn't play it, I see.
You're very wrong user. Yes shrines stand out on maps but not all of them and you do get tips from NPC's like the one who tells you about a buried treasure he heard of, he doesn't tell you where it is and it activates no quest markers he just describes the location and you gotta find it yourself. There's quite a few quests like that actually and I thought it was cool, problem is just the loot at the end was usually lame.
>I assume Mario gets appraise from people on Sup Forums because of how fun he is control with how the hat gives him new movement options.
No, it's the level design. The movement tech is mostly the same and you could completely ignore the new tech and get through the game, except for possessing obviously, but that pretty much fits in with the level design.
Sure. In that case let's just group in Far Cry, Just Cause 2, Dying Light, Mad Max, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Etc.
Guess you have a point! Someone should do something about these Nintenthieves!!!
>stand on tower
>activate binoculars
>mark glowy thing
You are making it sound like it is more than it is. You can even warp to the tower at any time so its basically
>mark thing from tower
>go to thing
>warp back
>rinse and repeat
It's fucking nothing.
Yes, all those shitty games are the same. I 100% agree with you. I am glad we finally see eye to eye.
I bought one and Im honestly a bit disappointed. I dont have Odyssey yet but BotW is honestly overrated as fuck. It's alright but not nearly as good as I was expecting. The game has a lot of shitty/annoying aspects.
>It's better then Skyrim for sure
Is it though? I at least got hundreds of hours of enjoyment from Skyrim and enjoyed immersing myself in the world and lore. BotW feels so sterile in comparison. Nothing in BotW matches the moment when you go down the dwemer ruins and discover Blackreach
Meanwhile
>criticism an aspect of BotW
>people accuse you of being a sony shill or not actually having the game
What the fuck is that about. Do people seriously believe this game is so immune to criticism that an actual owner of the game could not find anything about it to criticize? I feel like I have to take a picture with timestamp of proof that I own the game or else people will just accuse me of being a butthurt sony fanboy.
The overworld is incredibly varied. There's secrets and interesting features all ove the map. Shrine quests, unique topography, climate, wildlife, enemies, and fun location numbers for even the most trivial of area makes exploring a rich experience. Additionally, climbing and gliding allow you to go anywhere.
BOTW is a fantastic and fun game. Room for improvement, sure, and most flaws that people mention the game is usually guilty of, but empty it is not.
See I disagree I'd say Skyrim is super fucking sterile. All there is to do is move from one shitty combat experience to the next. Mods help but it's still not a very "alive" world imo.
To me all the little physics interactions made Hyrule feel much more real and I liked it.
>Switch
>Good game not by a child’s standards
Good one
the dumb "all the quests are killing dragur" argument is just plain wrong and overstated. Actually, the shrines in BotW are far more of an egregious game flaw than all the dragur quests; at least those quests might involve going into an tomb or burial cavern
The towns and quests in Skyrim have outrageously more content and variety than whatever is in BotW.
BOTW is a memorable experience of a game, but I'd be real disappointed if I bought a console just to play it. I imagine it will have DLC support for quite a while and hopefully something will come out from that because at the moment, there are hardly any locations that have a unique feel to them.
>The overworld is incredibly varied. There's secrets and interesting features all ove the map. Shrine quests, unique topography, climate, wildlife, enemies, and fun location numbers for even the most trivial of area makes exploring a rich experience
Do nintendies actually read what they are posting? This is minecraft autism all over again except somehow worse.
gameplay wise yes, but in terms of a WORLD I was able to get much more immersed in Skyrim's world, its history and politics and bandit hideouts, than BotW's world which feels like little more than a testing environment.
Both games are overrated as fuck.
I criticized it and no one's accused me of anything The problem is most people's idea of "criticism" is to come into a thread and go
>THIS GAME IS SHIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT!!!!! AGREE WITH ME OR YOU'RE ALL NINTENDRONES!!!!
And then get butthurt when people argue with you. You can criticize it just don't be a dick.
Nice marketing phrases, nigger. "unique topography", lmao.
