Comix Zone
Altered Beast
MK1/2 (the good versions)
Shining Force

Toejam and Earl (1 for sure, 2 is a pretty solid platformer with loads of exploration but is a hard genre swap so it gets a lot of flak)
Shining in the Darkness
Phantasy Star 2 and 4

Beyond Oasis
Crusader of Centy
Thunder Force 3 & 4
Desert, Jungle and Urban Strike
Castlevania Bloodlines
Contra Hard Corps
Robocop vs Terminator
Phantasy Star 4
Kid Chameleon
Streets of Rage 1, 2 and 3
Splatterhouse 2 and 3
Rocket Knight Adventures
Quackshot
Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion
Mickey Mania
Ecco the Dolphin
Gunstar Heroes

>Ecco the Dolphin

Drakengard of the Genesis era

Shinobi III and Vectorman

Revenge of Shinobi (best ninja game ever)
Kid Chameleon (best platformer ever)
Alien Soldier (best shooter ever)

Ristar

Rocket Knight Adventures, Ristar, Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy, Sonic 3&K, Streets of Rage 2, Alien Soldier, Alisa Dragoon, Beyond Oasis, Contra Hard Corps, Monster World IV, Wonder Boy in Monster World, Phantasy Star IV, The Revenge of Shinobi, Shinobi III, Castlevania Bloodlines, Comix Zone, The Adventures of Batman & Robin, Vectorman, Earthworm Jim, Crusader of Centy

>adventures of Batman and robin

So fucking underrated. It's like Hard Corps and Gunstar with Batman slapped on top with an amazing fucking soundtrack.

Comix Zone if you want a hard but fun beat em up

Is it any different from the SNES version?

I wouldn't say it's essential, but Toy Story is a pretty fun time. Seeing the Traveler's Tales guy explain the programming tricks used on some of the more technically impressive moments for the Genesis version made me go back and play it again. The Genesis version also has more music, better story cutscenes inbetween levels with more pictures and music, and an extra level to set it apart from the SNES version.

Also dat music

Go ahead and try out all the 'multiplats' because chances are they're different anyway except for most fighting games which Nintendo couldn't dick with.
Aladdin, Lion King, Gargoyles, Micky mouse games, Sparkster, Batman & Robin, Castlvania, Earthworm Jim, and Shadowrun are some of the better multiplat games.

Maximum Carnage, and Road Rash.

VERY. it's an entirely different game. the sega cd version is also completely different despite sharing the same devs as the genesis version. both sega versions are insanely difficult

Ristar is one of the best 2D platformers you'll ever play.

Dick Tracy

Don't forget that when you're done with Rocket Knight Adventures to play its sequel which is infinitely better than the other three titles across the Genesis/SNES.

it's definitely better than NES one but it's still kinda shit

Genesis had plenty of great "same name different game" games. Even fucking Aladdin on the Genesis was better than the SNES. Earthworm Jim had better soundtracks. Anything that was close to arcade-style is just better on the Genesis minus fighters which just sucked across the board for home ports.
>Road Rash
>Toxic Ooze
>Jurassic Park where you play as the FUCKING VELOCIRAPTOR
>Pugsy
>Ristar
>Streets of Rage trilogy
>Toejam and Earl 1&2
>General Chaos
>Golden Axe
>Gunstar Motherfucking Heroes
>Fuckin' Outrun
>Revenge of Shinobi
>Sparkster
>Hyperstone Heist

And despite what people say, it actually had some of the best music of that gen as well, despite most devs being totally shit at utilizing the sound.

The Mega Drive/Genesis really did have the better sound capabilities than the SNES did with that Yamaha chip. It's a pity most developers never really bothered to take advantage of it.

Sparkster on super famicom is the best of all time

Basically the entire library.

The controls are a little jankier, the soundtrack is too full of tooty SNES fanfare, and the jetpack is too limiting.

It's good, just not the best.

but for me it's
graphic is better
music is better
atmosphere is better
jet pack is playable
die animation and game over turn my dick on

Ristar is fantastic. Excellent soundtrack and great platforming
Streets of Rage games
Castle+World of Illusion
Chakan if you want to die
Alien Storm
Golden Axe games

It doesn't help that Sega cheaped out on later Genesis models resulting in worse sound quality

Puyo Puyo Tsu

Shining Force 1 and 2
Ecco the Dolphin 1 and 2

Vectorman (1 only)
Ecco (series)
Dynamite Heady
Puggsy
Sonic Spinball

no particular order

World of Illusion is game kino imo. Fucking beautiful.

genesis ain't virtual reality

>Vectorman (1 only)
What's wrong with the second one?

>Alien Soldier

Seriously user, do yourself a favor and check out AS, it's fucking awesome.

Nothing is improved, only worsened

not him but it's overall a step down from the original. it overstays its welcome and the final boss is a joke.

besides being different a lot of them were just overall better on the genesis due to it being more powerful.

You're not missing anything, system is trash, only good game was echo

>having taste this bad
