You know a fan-made 2.0 came out and is actively being developed? They added a Mario-maker style challenge mode that draws from random levels out of all the episodes you've installed, it's fun as fuck.

Does it retain the multiplayer?

Yes, they haven't removed any features from what I can tell.

I used to make levels, made a submission for the vinesauce contest that got an honorable mention. It's a great fan game.

It was called Captain Toad, I used lua to make it so you cant jump and made a series of short levels based on it.

Dedicated fans are working on a sequel based on the same engine which will become the official version once it gets out of beta. So technically yeah

2015 was his last contest, reasons I've heard for him stopping range from Mario Maker's release making Nintendo wary of unofficial level designer contests and the workload becoming too great. Nothing from his own mouth though. I'm thinking of sending him an email about it when 2.0 officially releases.

No, Nintendo threatened to de-monitize his videos so he stopped doing SMBX stuff.

Which is a shame, SMBX is probably the best Mario fan game ever made and holds up as well as any official title.

I wish I could somehow magically make Nintendo's support of fan content at least Sega-tier, it's so frustrating.

If they're scared of their image being tarnished, there's already buckets of mario rule 34 out there which they will never be able to eradicate. Wtf is their deal
