Seems like this remaster or something has been released recently.
Is anyone playing? What are your thoughts?

Shits fun working on my last 2 ryu books for vol 3 then FoP, then straight to vol 4. I'm kind of sad my nostalgia trip is almost over
Shit i needed a thread
How long do I have to grind to finish this tournament shit in volume 1 and why don't members equip weapons i give them?
So for the first you typically need 4 survival matches to get qualified, doing limit matches takes forever.
For your second question, it's because the ai thinks the weapon is worse then what they got on pure attack/defense (for armor). If you want to override them you can manually equip through equip menu.
I feel like the actual gameplay is pretty lackluster so there's no real reason to play aside from if you like the atmosphere or the story.
anyone managed to rip the new wall papers yet? there is one from vol 3 i want.
Good stuff meinard
Why did they name him Endrance instead of Endurance?
So I've finished Bikman, mecha grunty, bounty hunter, and chim kicker, along with getting to guild level 6 defeating doppelganger and doing the One Sin and God Eater.
Can I move on to Vol 3 yet?
Yes.
Thank you, I've been terrified that there was something I missed that I didn't remember.
What's the best deck for Crimson VS?
I've been using two dancing lions PK network and Endrance or Ovan the Wanderer as the general and so far I'm at like 1643 wins and 473 losses.
For Gaspard you'll want to use Don't kick Invisible and Voluntary Trust with Shino- Twilight Brigade as your general.
There is no "best deck". But i will recommend.
Don't kick
Dancing Lion
Dancing Lion
Endrance.
how long is volume 4? i finally got around to starting Rebirth late weekend and it's shorter than i remember.
Is anyone else still in shock that this thing got made let alone a 4th volume?
Why did they keep SAKAKI and Haseo but changed Yōko to Alkaid among others?
The 4th volume is like 2-3 hours, it's basically just a playable OVA.
im not a .hack fan, because ive never played a game
this is on steam now, and a friend who IS a long time fan is enjoying it thuroughly, minmaxing, yadda yadda
could/should someone like me, who's never played .hack jump into this?
Because all of the Icolo names are based off of stars.
I'm having quite a bit of fun with it.
Ryu Book grinding has sort of become my primary focus ever since i started.
If you like JRPGs then you'll enjoy it. It feels like you're playing an anime if you go through it casually. If you're trying to 100% it like a masochist then you'll be grinding a lot like any other JRPG.
Yes, the game does a decent job of immersing you to it's universe and how people treat the World and the internet in general .
There are details and moments that are better if you have played/read/watched other stuff, but it's a tiny amount overall.
Funny how they did all sorts of stuff to try to limit/remove the grind but then Ryu Book 1 is nothing but a massive annoying grind to level up.
Because all Icolo names are based on stars. Yowkow was literally the only character named after a cockrel cry and not a star or constellation.
...
thanks for the replies
the cutscenes look fun and the gameplay looks... comfy, almost
reminds me of some other old games ive played, just a bit
think i'll pick it up.
YEP. SOLD.
Older women are always the best.
Did you do the biker quests?
Cause if you place 1st in the courses in Volume 2, you get much worse rewards then what you get in vol.3
It's better to not enter top rankings and just gather 36000 chims
>2-3 hours
thats sad. oh well i'm still amazed this fucking thing got made. I praying to the gaming gods for almost a decade for a remaster so i could finally play Redemption.
Best girl
>Yowkow was literally the only character named after a cockrel cry and not a star or constellation.
>Alkaid's name in the Japanese version of the game was Yowkow, the traditional Sino-Japanese name for the star Eta Ursae Majoris, also known as Alkaid. The name of the star is usually spelled "Youkou".
One of the best parts of the game is when you log out and read emails, forums, news etc.
Reading posts and then seeing what the players say inside the game is one the most charming things of the game.
Well I got rank 1 in the bike races but I'm sure it can't fuck me over that bad right?
OLD HAG
None of the items are unique, just better quality
I want to pi Pi's pi's.
you can do that? that's pretty cute!
my understanding is you're supposed to be a pretty good? player, and start leading a guild, too, right?
And Taihaku is Venus. Everyone knows already.
What everyone doesn't know is the chicken thing which became far more synonymous with the character in Japan.
So I won't miss out on bike parts?
I was under the impression there were 5 new courses so I figured why not just come in first.
I want to bully Reiko about her age all day
>What are your thoughts?
AAHHDFGSDJHSLDJGH
>she's only 24
>already older than her
How much would the SJW's cry if you put a wallpaper with visible nipple bulges in a modern game?
Info you learn within the first hour and prequel anime:
You were part of the guild, shit went south and disbanded, person you had the hots for fell into a coma from attack in the game.
You go crazy and ignore everyone, reach level 133 looking for the one responsible.
He kicks your ass and levels you down to lv 1.
Your adventure begins with new parameters and being forced to relearn the game and the elements you ignored while obsessed.
Who you meet, how you grow and what the fuck actually happened...
You play and find out
Shino a shit.
ok, the pretty cs and charming emails had me hooked
this comment has me buying it rn
cheers~
Only two good things Shino has going for, for anyone retarded enough to send her the final email, is that the event takes place in the Cathedral.
It's a nice touch for how special the place was for the two.
And her reaction if you send the email to Endrance instead
Are you talking about the marriage event? You can do it with everyone in the remaster.
Warning:
The game is simplified action RPG and overall quite easy (especially with some changes of the remake). Very few things will threaten you, unless you never press the fucking block button.
And the fun elements of combat (weapon switching, more varied party members) come in the 2nd game.
The game is more about atmosphere/characters.
If you decide to do 100% runs, no shame consulting guides or asking online, cause a few things can be tedious.
Everyone else gets married in Hy Brasail, only Shino does in the cathedral
my friend mentioned that this is more streamlined than the originals, which i don't mind too much
especially since he put it as "i could get through vol1 quickly to enjoy the rest" and mentioned that some QOL from later vols is in 1?
seems fine
and there's optional challenges like the doppleganger thing right?
just makes me think this is even more comfy since i basically... choose if i want to have a challenge ahah
not that it matters since i've already bought it, but this is probably not something that's playable with kbm, right?
The Butt-RICE/Kaki Leader trolling is up there with the best NPC interactions ever.
Camera controls is not that important thankfully, you only really need 3 action buttons for combat (plus directions of d-pad for choosing targets). Perfectly doable, finished vol1 before I could borrow a controller (it's much simpler that way).
You might have a few issues with bike races in the 2nd/3d volume
rad!
I've got a ps3 controller if it comes to it, but its an extra step that eventually keeps my lazy ass from coming back to a game
thanks again for answering my questions, y'all
always love to have the rare pleasant experience on Sup Forums
Blue Eyes pretending to be hot shit and KAZUBOLO THE LAST HOPE always get a chuckle out of me.
Remake of a niche RPG does not attract enough people to shitpost.
Final advice, if you do try to be a completionist, play a few hours each day or take a week break between volumes.
Otherwise, you will get nightmares
Fuck Battle Areas and spawning monsters half the time
Thinking of getting this one. Bit sad that first 4 games didn't get a remaster, though.
Impossible to remaster, the game files' infection level is too high
ill take that to heart
though i dont have much choice in the matter. classes are a bitch and finals are coming up hah.
sup with battle arenas/spawning?
does it have something to do with those keywords you put in? o:
One of the sidequests, is to hunt PKers.
They appear in Battle Areas, small spaces within actual big areas. And you to hunt 50 of them. and 7 unique ones.
Except, there is a chance you will only encounter a monster attacking a player instead.
All the collectathons are guaranteed, since you can create areas that have what you need (monsters of any level and type, varied loot etc) except for this and Leaflet distribution(but the later be simplified somewhat).
...
oh, god lmao
sounds like something you'd only do with one eye on the game and the other on netflix, definitely
then again that's how most grinding is done imo
Would you prefer the proto-design's green hair?
SKEEEEEITH
*boom*
CORBENIIIIK
*boom*
DNA DIGIVOLVE TO
I actually really like the design of Union Skeith all jokes aside
I just realised that Sakaki and Zetta have the same voice actor, took a minute because Atlus has changed Zetta's voice like every appearance.
any new bonus boss ????
It really does look like a slim omegamon
Why does nobody talk about the black box when discussing the story/setting for this series? It’s such a huge piece of the puzzle, but it seems like every thread there’s somebody who’s like “Haseo is clearly on an RP server” or “Why do people care so much about PKing”.
The black box answers all of that but it seems like 70 percent of the fan base doesn’t know it exists.
Because the game does not really explain it itself.
Any kind of code , visuals, waves etc that can connect minds to a virtual world is super science, and the game just rolls with it.
Wow Endrance is gay as fuck from second one in your party.
doujins where goddamnit
Elkdurance's love is pure.
PURE!
He's a slut actually
DELETE THIS
God I wish master Zelkova would call me mommy
How long would it take to beat all 4 volumes?
I don't know if I have the dedication for like 4 100 hour long jrpg romps.
If you just want to do the story, first 3 volumes are like 15-18 hours on average, and last one is 5 hours.
Doing everything can add 10 extra hours per volume and 2-3 more for vol.4
I'm almost 20 in for Vol 1 and that's with a bit of grinding. ITf you blast through it maybe 70ish? Vol 4 isn't a complete game like 1-3
I'm rewatching .hack//Sign since I haven't seen it since I was a kid on Adult Swim.
Figured I'd play the games afterward, though I hear the original 4 haven't aged very well.
What is this second series of games? Is there another anime that accompanies them or are they standalone?
Roots is a prequel anime.
It's not that good, but do see the episode of an unhinged Haseo descending the Forest of Pain
it's boring as fuck, casualized and everything gives way more experience, does less damage, has less health, and is generally dumber than the ps2 release. I'd understand if that shit applied to cheat mode but it happens on normal mode. I did ONE (1) non-story dungeon, and ended up fucking 8 levels too high for anything, and the story content was just a total breeze with 0 challenge afterwards.
Sign leads to the original 4 games and Roots anime leads to the G.U games.
Neat thanks
That's kinda true.
Even if I remember how the game works and I prep the team, Cernunos in the original required some healing/timing.
Now I killed him before I could even trigger a second awakening.
Should havbe propably played cheat mode from the start, the (minimal, really) challenged evaporated
.hack//Roots
SIGN, IMOQ, and GU are all standalone for the most part, though there's some overlap characters and so forth.
>it's boring as fuck
So, you played the PS2 release? If so, why would buy the game if you thought it was boring before why would you bother with this?
And the game was stupid easy on PS2, and even then there was the "problem" that the game was easy if you grind for a bit, so what were you expecting
...
There are romance elements? The fuck?
You can marry any girl with max affection (and Endrance, Azure Kite, and Ovan) at theend, but it doesn't do anything really
Not really, it's fanservice post-game content.
Only 2 girls really like you regardless
1/2 is love, 1/2 is life. She always provides me with nice stabbers.
There are couple of girls after Haseo's dick and at the end of the third game you can invite party members to a special marriage event in game.
So like. Do Haseo's parents just ignore their little sperg screaming SKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEITH and other shit every day?
Haseo got real fucked up in R:1 and lost his memories playing video games but they're still okay with him playing this shit again.
>Honey, he's doing it again
>just leave him be, he's probably in his rebellious phase
I didn't fucking grind though, I went to do a sidequest.
And the game was significantly more challenging on ps2, which is saying a lot cause it was just rengeki spam there.
Around the 50th time he said 'Come, I'm right here', they assumed he was in a gay chatroom and just let him be
I guess that's just differences then. I found the PS2 ones to still be incredibly easy. Any fight could be won by gaining two or three levels above the opponents
In fact with every new volume, GU got easier
What the fuck were they thinking with the guns, balance wise?
Will I love the characters and the games if I start with this remaster?
It is differences, but it's shit differences that make me regret buying the remaster considering it's worse overall. vol 4 is basically just a movie.
>Will I like a game if I play it?
How am I supposed to answer that?
The setting is not as unique anymore, but still much better execution than you'd expect and captures online interactions much better than most. And if you like anime, there is a chance you will like the characters and events.
Gameplay is serviceable.
The reason the game stood out and carved it's own niche is the unique atmosphere overall.
