He was right, now we understand.
He was right, now we understand
Understand what? It's a typical mario and zelda player with a handheld gimmick
no u
Do you think he is watching Sup Forums
>forced to read Sup Forums while dead
That is the literal definition of hell.
why did this happening? I'm not complaining, i own a Switch, but how did it manage to become so successful? It isn't mindblowing hardware wise, a big selling point for core games, the one who spend the most on vidya. It wasn't original. it is literally a handheld console that you can plug into your tv.
I guess the appealing aspect of it is what captured me too. A strong year.
I only own 3 games, and those 3 games are far better than most titles launch for ps4 and bone for the past years.
Botw, Kart 8, Odyssey. A strong year. And the switch gimmick, it isn't original but it is incredibly well put together with the switch. It isn't annoying using it as a console and handheld unlike something like a psp or vita.
what's going to be Nintendo's next gimmick?
augmented reality motion controls?
we'll see another 5 rehashes of the DS before their next console
its straight up expanded wii u
Surprise what? I have one and I still think it's just a glorified vita. Only "surprising" thing about it is the games, they're way better than the slop they put out for wiiu
Its a handheld with "good" graphics and big console size in lenght games
In your hands
Its not that hard to see how its such an easy idea to sell to the mainstream
Nintendo is showing they know what they are doing again with smart marketing and gimmicks only up to a level where it doesn't hamper usability. That in contrast to the WiiU.
And of course two 10/10 games in the first year. They gave it enough momentum that it convinced people enough that the Switch was here to stay and get amazing games.
>It isn't annoying using it as a console and handheld unlike something like a psp or vita.
What? How was using the PSP or Vita annoying? Do you mean wanting to play it on a TV? PSP (slim) could do that with a cable (that was only PSP games to the TV though, PSP remote playing PS3 games just wasn't ever feasible). Vita remote play works fine as long as you don't have a garbage router. Sure, you're limited to your house, something the Switch isn't held back by, but it's not that annoying.
3 things:
>It can conform to literally any lifestyle.
>It's intelligently priced.
>They starved the Wii U for games so heavily to ensure that all of Nintendo's heavy hitters would launch all in the same year.
Rushing the console out without a recording feature or video streaming services made it cheap to manufacture, and then patching them into the console within the first year cleared up any bad press.
They played things incredibly smart.
You have a similar gimmick que the psp and vita, but those system are troublesome to use.
It isn't an original idea, but it took nintendo to make it work well.
Maybe nintendo should do VR too if we want a proper headset. Oh wait, they did and it failed. Proof that VR is doomed. If even nintendo can't make it work, then no one can.
If in 2018 gets metroid, AC and pokemon this console will sell more than the PS2 at the end of its life
Switch is great but that's delusional. It won't get anywhere near the PS2, or even PS4.
VB was rushed out the door Yokoi said it wasnt ready, a very stupid move by yamauchi.
tfw waiting for miyamoto to die so he can't ruin any more games
Nothing will hit ps2 levels, but I could see Switch hitting PS4 levels, depending of course on where they go.
No guarantee of course.
>First hybrid console that plays AAA games on TV and is also portable and can switch between modes instantly mid-game.
>gimmick
okay buddy, go take your pills
I think they did the one thing Sony couldnt deliver with the Vita fully:
Full console experiences in a handheld.
Sony had a decent start with the Vita but they sort of shot themselves in the foot with proprietary memory and an awful store front.
Physical sales and digital sales are equally important now. The 3DS did well because its so easy to get and install as many games as you like. Well eventually. Nintendo had a pretty rough start for the 3DS but they had the grit to turn it around and make it work. Early price cut, tons of first party exclusives, and even early multi-buy promos in Europe.
Physical game sales in the west for the Vita faltered. Third parties fled. Sony made a few good titles for it but quickly abandoned the platform in the West, and stopped pushing for Japanese localisations, leaving A and AA Japanese developers to pick up the slack, and the western developers only really put out indie ports. They just couldnt get enough decent games out as quickly as Nintendo can.
I think one of the biggest flops on it was Playstation Allstars. I think Sony was banking on the portable version to be their Smash portable. But it just didnt live up to what people wanted.
They couldnt keep the hype train going and the Vita faded into obscurity. Not even remote play could bring it back.
Good post, sorry about the vita fanboys that are about to start screeching at you about their weebshit
Man I came so close to buying a vita in multiple occasions and every time the proprietary memory was what made me reconsider.
What a dumb decision.
i don't understand what's useful about that. i don't take a train to work, i have no reason to bring my video games with me anywhere. in fact, i enjoy them much more when i take breaks for several hours.
Nintendo didn’t change anything. They made another console that appeals to kids with “wholesome” content that parents feel comfortable buying, especially at a reasonable price
I have a Vita. It feels nice to use, and some of those weeb games are pretty solid. (Dungeon crawlers in particular)
The only physical flaw I can mention other than what I already said was that it didnt need a rear touch panel. Its more of a hindrance than a help. Its quite uncomfortable.
Even the front touch screen isnt all that useful either.
But its been poorly mismanaged from the start by Sony. You know how short-sighted Sony are that fans have to deliberately hold back their firmwares to 3.60 and hack it, so they can use a 128gb microSD on it and have most of their games on there that they want.
Sell more than ps2? Nah, I doubt it will even surpass ps4 but I can see it being the 2nd best selling console from this generation.
Most people interested by the switch are adults if NoA survey is to be believed
For jesus day i know for sure im getting mk8 and odyssey, but ill barely have enough for BotW, is it worth it even though i know nothing about zelda?
100 million is a possibility, but you're crazy if you think it will ever hit PS2 numbers.
Everything about the Switch rollout is master class.
>consolidation of all Nintendo development divisions, to ensure a steady stream of releases
>ads focused on the straightforward draw of the platform, people in the ads effortlessly switching between handheld, tabletop and TV play
>year 1 flanked by juggernaut tentpoles Zelda and Mario, comfortably riding universal acclaim
>ad campaign series focused around different genres to cater to different tastes(e.g. the Close Call set of ads are all targeted at RPG fans)
It's great on its own terms and you obviously don't need to know anything about Zelda to enjoy it.
You will enjoy it way more by not knowing anything about zelda since you wont have expectations.
There is something deeply wrong with nintendo fanboys.
but was it all iwata's ideas, or was it his dead that lead to those developments?
seething
Yeah, I'd never played a Zelda before playing it and I had a blast. When I get my Switch I'm absolutely picking it up.
If it explodes in China (which Nintendo is trying to do), it can hit PS2 numbers. Nintendo is putting all its resources now behind one system instead of two.
Everything about the reorganization and what Kimishima said about it(since it happened shortly after he became president) was that he was just following Iwata's blueprints. You don't become president and then just restructure an international organization in that little time.
Maybe it's not for you?
I think Kimishima has a huge part in their improved advertising and Direct format. They never were this slick in Iwata's days.
Arigato
Iwata-san
I remember when people panicjed when kimishima said he was just going to continue what Iwata started and that all plans regarding NX would stay the same
What if you want to watch TV and game?
What if another person in the house wants to use the TV?
What if you want to shit and play Mario Kart?
In all seriousness I bought on ready to hate it and for once I was wrong, it's so not a gimmick.
obsessed
Shouldn't you know?
Quality games don't sell consoles
Shit games don't make consoles fail
The only thing that sells consoles is deceipt, lies, and overpriced merchandise, all conveniently packedged up in bundles of advertisement.
...
Iwata was around for DS and Wii and you're definitely not going to deny the quality of the advertising for those. Kimishiima's always preferred proxies to talk for him(e.g. Bill or Reggie while he was head of NoA). The Direct format is a reflection of that. Iwata liked to engage directly, while Kimishima makes Koizumi do that goofy shit.
Is this chibi 2.0
You should try holding the capture button friend.
It takes videos.
>recording yourself "reacting"
It's the strongest handheld out there. Its gimmick is actually good, too. I can go from playing something on my TV to playing it on the very same thing comfily snug in my bed within half a minute if even.
It just works.
i dont give a shit about power or portability i just like playing nintendo games every few months while i mainly game on my pc
A society becomes truly great when men plant seeds whose shade they will never stand under.
>44343
>44444
>4 means spoopy ghost watching from beyond the grave in taiwanese
Iwata is watching us
>most people play mobile shit
>only console that brings AAA gaming to mobile levels
>woah.png
the masses won't care the skyrim is being sold again for 60$, what they see is the game they played in their "childhood" being completely portable, they do not care for anything else, and that is fine.
>turn on tv, play (switch) games on pc
>only live with my mother. tv, games, and PC are all in my room
>I leave the door open and play with my wireless mouse and keyboard
in all seriousness, again, why would someone want a switch?
I think Kimishima is more of a business minded man, I dont doubt Iwata's creative genius - but he didnt get consumers.
>DERRR ITS JUST A VITA BUT LIKE, IT HAS GAEMS? WTF
sony fans in a nutshell
>Iwata on deathbed, emaciated, clinging to life
>a single tear pools in the corner of Kimishima's eye
>a snarling whisper breaks the oppressive hum of life support and staggered breathing
>I will make them understand
When was that picture taken?
Was he already president?
What can I buy to play Mario Odyssey, plus use the train for 3 hours every week?
Ive got a PS4 for my AAA games and a Switch for Nintendo games.
This. I'm kind of a weeb so I wanted to get it for obscure Japanese shit, but Sony is literally killing people with the massively overpriced memory.
E3 2016, Iwata had been dead for a year. He was watching the Treehouse stream from the crowd.
>I don't
>I don't
>I don't
There's the thing buddy o pal
YOU don't
Good marketing and a good gimmick. Every time since you were a kid you ever had to put down a game and pick up your game boy because you were leaving the house, you can now pause it and bring the game with you. I hope that this isn't a one off and all future consoles have this option.
Indeed.
Ayy, thanks looking forward to the 25th then
Are you so egocentric you can't see something from another's point of view?
Damn
So your underage or a loser neet faggot, okay.
That's the most people BUYING the switch. Most people under the age of 16 don't have jobs and income and the means to actually buy video games, yet a very large portion of people in that age bracket play video games.
I didn't sign up for this
This. Watch that proportion of under 16 owning a switch increase after Xmas when their parents buy them one.
Right now the people buying a Switch are adults with money.
Do you guys think Kimishima will continue to be President for Nintendo's next console/system? Or is he just filling the place for a few years for someone to step up.
>life changed by a shitty tablet
whoa
it sold the handheld/console hybrid angle by being a really good handheld, and the joycons make it a great value proposition because it does 2 player without having to pay extra
That's what I'm saying. I posit that the proportion of under 16 that own a switch is already much larger than the percents NoA reported about sales. With Christmas it will swing even more in their favor.
that bumbling, lazy-eyed mongoloid said the same thing about the Piss Urine and now his carcass is getting eaten by worms.
He was nominated as placeholder following Iwata's death but a few months after they voted him to be president, so he'll likely stay top dog until he picks someone to succeed him or a rival Yakuza clan gets him.
>First hybrid console that plays AAA games on TV and is also portable
No. The PSP played console quality games, and could easily be hooked up to a TV
Because they're not a NEET?
Well said, have a (You) user.
One thing I will say about the Switch is that I was surprised at how much I like the Joy-cons. When they were shown off I thought they were a stupid gimmick and that it was making me pay an extra $50 for a gimmick I'd never use. But I've actually been using them quite a lot, mostly because of ARMS. It's so much fun throwing punches in real time. I've been using them a bit for Splatoon and Mario Odyssey, too.
They key to switch success is simple.
People looked at the Wii and thought "heh, no chance game X will be on that!"
People now look at the Switch and thing "god damn I wish game X was on Switch!"
Nintendo dropped the casual market, re-adapted their bright red company color from the "hardcore" era, fused handheld and console internal divisions, got into serious talks with third parties and demonstrated all the Switch capabilities in its first year by delivering a wide variety of games that would inspire third parties with the kind of features they could implement.
he died in sadness and shame because he knew he sold out to
>mobile
>DLC
>amiibo + DLC
>paid online they were talking about
>shitty ports no one will buy (wii u is evidence)
honestly, YOU guys killed him. i stopped after wii u and will never buy nintendo again because i respect iwata
It allows you to play how you want. I like that shit, you can change it up once in a while.
Will E3 2018 have a big theme like 2016's Zelda and 2017's Mario Odyssey. There's really only two more flagships on Mario or Zelda's level, and that's Smash and Pokemon.
I could conceivably see a Metroid one, maybe, but I don't think it's got big enough coattails to be the star of the show like its predecessors.
That might depend on how well Metroid Prime 4 sells.
why are you guys buying a switch and spitting on iwata's grave? wasn't he your guy? what happened?
Metroid 4 wont be out before E3 2018, plus it kinda had a big presence this year with the Prime 4 and Samus Retruns featuring after so many years of no news.
If its anywhere near ready, E3 2018 will be Pokemon. If they get a good looking trailer and gameplay vid out there with a release date within 6-7 months then hype levels will go into overdrive.
>I will make them understand
And now we have ubisoft games, an overpriced handheld, and a bunch of jewish DLC
Gimmick is pretty much a buzzword these days thanks to idiots misusing the word for everything they don't like.
Nintendo does have the right strategy when it comes to consoles. Consoles should have lots of exclusives and also some kind of utility that makes them stand out. Consoles that are just mini-PCs with a ton of multiplats are worthless (see: Xbone).
Yeah I was really suprised with a weak tablet and 2 games.
Except you're proven wrong instantly by the existence and mass selling of the PS4. Explain that and why 60 million people arent buying a switch.
So, I do take the train to work and the Switch makes my ride back a lot easier to unwind.
I also travel a fair bit and it's fantastic for plane rides or when I visit a guest's place and we're bored and we use the Joycons to play Mario Kart 8 or something
I get the sense Kimishima is a more straightforward businessman. He still cares about games but he's not so adherent to Blue Ocean strategies as Iwata was. He'll walk into your portable/mobile market of games and be packing
It sure did suprise me, suprised me that people are dumb enough to waste their money on this shit
fun fact, the wii was supposed to be a laptop and the wii motes were two separate wireless controller initially that looked like little tv remotes with joysticks, and it was at one point called "the revolution game console"
they re worked it entirely because the thing would overheat and melt parts
They havent made 60 million Switchs yet.
