Are Tube Televisions a Meme?

Are Tube Televisions a Meme?

You can't call something a meme without actually knowing what it is

I know what a tube television is, I just don't know why someone would play games on one, outside of lightgun games of course.

Depends.

Found a good consumer CRT TV with component cable inputs for

If you play on an LCD screen, anything below the native res looks blurry, while a CRT just skips those lines entirely, making every resolution look native.

>image is only 10KB

That's what a good upscaler is for (OSSC and Framemeister) are for. A good upscaler is not cheap but it looks amazing.

Not a meme: using the CRT from your childhood you found in the attic
Meme: buying a PVM or other professional monitors
PVM fags are the audiophiles of graphicsfags.

It depends on the person really.

I've been collecting retro games for over 2 years now and I always play them on a CRT TV with S-Video.

When I talk to non-vidya people about why I collect old video games, I equate it to vinyl: there are cheaper, more convenient routes to get your entertainment, but there is something "pure" about playing an original copy record/vidya on the equipment it was intended to be played on.

For me it's no comparison, but I understand why people use a Framemeister or buy HD re-releases.

>CRTs and LCDs are different!

this meme needs to die

even my wife can see the difference between retero gaming on the lcd and retro gaming on the crt and she is a woman. OP cant figure out what a woman understands easily

it's a troll you fucking retards

they're vastly different.
they're almost as different as two technologies that do the same task can be.
it's actually not surprising at all that CRTs normally have faster response times.

They don't have a frame buffer or other kinds of processing. as a rhythm, shmup, & fighting game fan, it kills me how much input lag there is in modern gaming.

The are an investment for sure, but they are superior to LCDs in terms of input lag and the way they handle pixels. PVMs and BVMs are the premium level items in this category. With the advent of the Framemeister, and moreso the OSSC, CRTs aren't the end all be all.

memes! :D

I personally can't get the full retro nostalgic experience without a CRT. Emulating on pc or modern tv screens just isn't as fun. It may be pure nostalgia for me though since as a kid I always played on crts.

Is it a meme if I bought a PVM 15 years ago for $1 and still use it?

Yes you fucking edgelord.

t. scart hater

>buying a PVM

Most people could probably just find one (or a similar JVC professional monitor) for super cheap by looking at local studios and asking for one.
