What makes a real Metroid game?

What makes a real Metroid game?

>Nonlinear
>No cutscenes
>It MUST be 2D

so super is the only real game?

Pretty much, yes.

Metroid has been a dead franchise for a long, long time.

>implying Super Metroid doesn't have cutscenes

I think the problem here, if I could clear some of this confusion up, is that OP is an idiot.

>Metroid has been a dead franchise for a long, long time.
Good thing Hollow Knight replaced it.

Super has 3 cutscenes: the intro, during MB, and the ending.

Took a while but I think we finally reached a point we can all agree on.

>tfw can't find any games that feel like Metroid

it needs guns, non-linear level design, and weapon upgrades/character progress

there are tons of metroidvanias out there dude

Nah OP is surely intelligent, I think the likely conclusion is that there simply isn't a real metroid game in existence

I liked Hollow Knight better when it was called Ori and the Blind Forest, I liked Ori better when it was called Guacamelee. I liked that game better when it was called the Igavania games, and I liked THAT game better when it was called Metroid.

>no dialog
>map that rewards exploration
>powerups that increase exploration
>character is highly mobile
>player is rewarded for mastering complex maneuvers
>non-boss combat is relatively simple and focuses on shooting shit because otherwise you'll spend too much time fighting and not exploring (chozo ghosts in MP1)
>boss combat is about applying your abilities in new ways and shooting shit

but I want one with guns
all I can think of right now is Axiom Verge, Mummy Demastered, and Cave Story which I didn't like
has to be 2D as well

So basically only Super Metroid?

>(chozo ghosts in MP1)
>Not just walking by those losers as they take forever to spawn in.

There's only like two encounters where they lock you in, unlike the commando cunts in Echoes.

>super metroid
>character is highly mobile
>boss combat is about applying your abilities in new ways and shooting shit

chozo ghosts are dealt with 2 super missiles on hard mode

commando's are instakilled with dark beam + missile, including the dark commandos

And a faggot

Samus in Super is highly mobile yeah? With walljumps and exploiting techniques you can get pretty much anywhere and go super fast.
Not to mention there's plenty of different ways to take down bosses

Samus is the floatiest she's ever been in super, I don't consider that mobile.

>Not to mention there's plenty of different ways to take down bosses
outside of the grapple in draygon you damage rush every single main boss

Well your definition of mobile is different from mine then.

You can also speedbooster right into draygon for hueg damage.
also phantoon takes big damage from the wave beam power bomb combo which requires sick timing.
and power bombs will also hit Ridley which he actually tries to avoid.

>also phantoon takes big damage from the wave beam power bomb combo which requires sick timing.
>and power bombs will also hit Ridley which he actually tries to avoid.

these are both still damage rushing

I want super but with Samus Returns boss battles. Diggernaut and Queen Metroid are the most intense and creative fights in metroid history that actually let you beat them in multiple ways with all your powerups.

fuck no, are you kidding me? SR's bosses had like less than 10 attacks all with predictable, telegraphed attacks. There is a reason why they do so much damage; once you see their attacks you literally cannot be hit unless you get impatient

>Diggernaut and Queen Metroid are the most intense
um no sweetie, not even close

>primetards think this is a good boss design

>SR's bosses had like less than 10 attacks all with predictable, telegraphed attacks.

You just described every single boss in he franchise.

fuck, you posted a boss that only has only has one unique move while the rest are copypasted from the generic Ing Warrior enemies.

it's excellent boss design, far better than anything in the 2D games

>constant despair from health draining
>high risk/reward; bombing him in his morph ball phase gets him to his puddle phase early but messing up almost guarantees you being hurt
>strategic use of the pillars which drop health, must use wisely
>despite knowing each attack, they still require skill/quick reactions to dodge
>fight switches between morph and regular combat, spicing up the battle
>0 tolerance for casuals, most difficult boss in the series even after they toned him down in the trilogy version

2D (as well as prime) could learn a thing or two from the bosses in prime 2

the difference is even if you know BBG's moves, they're still fun to avoid. The attacks of SR's bosses are not fun to dodge because 1. they take forever and 2. They're piss easy to dodge lacking any tension

I want to see a Metroid System shock 2 hybrid

>>Nonlinear
>>No cutscenes
>>It MUST be 2D
None of those conditions are valid.

Shadow Complex

The ing had pretty cool designs and boss fights yeah

>2.5D

>2Dtard thinks the bosses in 2D even come close to prime 2

That looks like shit.

Aliens: Infestation

>1. they take forever and 2. They're piss easy to dodge lacking any tension

exactly like boost guardian.

actual metroid fan here
prime is my favorite and super is my second favorite
the only people that think 2d and 3d games dont belong in the same franchise are falseflaggers
goodnight

actually nothing like him, like I said you can end the morph ball phase early. and Lol at easy to dodge, have you even played prime 2?

> The attacks of SR's bosses are not fun to dodge because 1. they take forever and 2. They're piss easy to dodge lacking any tension
Are we talking about Prime 2 now?
Congrats on making primetards look even worse.

True I've been getting tired of the vocal minority shitting on Prime recently its annoying.

Then you have shit taste.

no, we're talking about samus returns. At no point in prime 2 do you have to wait for a boss to finish his attack outside of dark samus 4

this
that's like saying the 2D and 3D marios are different franchises

>I haven't played prime 2 but I'll pretend I did anyway
prime 2 is by far the most frantic metroid game, you cannot even debate this

>recently
try 3 years, it's the same 1-2 autists buttmad that prime stole the spotlight

Fair enough, I havent been on metroid threads for a long time.

>Lol at easy to dodge, have you even played prime 2?
>He can't tell which angle Boost Guardian will bounce off the walls at

Are you one of those dopes that thinks Yakuza in Fusion is hard too?

>map to explore
>upgrades
>samus
>metroids or some reference to them
done

...

>hey guys I've calculated the trajectory of the boost ball guardian and been in the proper position every time. Despite the microseconds it takes to react to everything, I've dodged him everytime. I've also bombed him after the first boost attack as well as instantly wiped the adds

and no, all you do for yakuza is aim up and missile

How did he get through that platform on the right wall by the end?

Falling fast enough to clip through, I think.

Does Samus know about QPU speeds?

I don't know if hyperspeed walking slopes have existed on any of the planets she's been to, so she might not.

You boys should try Hollow Knight. Easily one of the best Metroidvanias out there

You're not the boss of me

No, thanks.

Its not even a hard boss. I don't understand why people coplained about it. Friend of mine who is going through the trilogy played Prime 2 on GCN and asked me why people thought it was difficult. He's having more trouble with the Alpha Blogg

nintendo should've sold metroid to sony, they'd do a better job with it aiming it to brainy weebs instead of the kiddie furry shit that nintendo specializes in

based off your statement I'm guessing he didn't play on hard, so it's invalid. Alpha Blogg is also a bitch but honestly that comes from poor design unlike boost ball

...

Disgusting.

fucking soccer

it doesnt really matter the difficulty. the only change is taking more damage and dealing more.

But I played both versions on the highest difficulty possible and had little to no issue. I was completely unaware people considered it hard until I read about it being weakened in the Wii Trilogy.

it matters very very much, there is a huge difference between hard and normal boost ball. Tell your friend what he thinks after he's played on hard.

...

>rocket heels
fucking nips
Post more

It looks like they've been having this discussion about Sakurai for a while. I'll see if I can pick out any interesting bits.

A game with metroids in it?

This is one premise that is so dumb I wouldnt mind it

>It MUST be 2D
This is the only thing you said that I agree with. You sound like that Halo fan that just want Microsoft to release Halo 3 over and over again.

F-Zero I wouldn't mind being in the same universe, but Star Fox might be too dissonant.

F-Zero, yes
Star Fox, no

Well, this post was made before the later discussion started, but I liked it anyway.
This was actually from an argument over whether Samus or Link would win in a fight, which naturally drifted to Smash Bros, and someone said this.

Well I mean, he's not wrong

>nonlinear
sequence breaking is almost entirely a fan made thing. Sure there is never a giant glowing arrow in Super hovering above your head telling you were to go, but the game does a great job of gently guiding the player in its intended direction. If you seriously think using a few tricks and hard jumps makes the 2d games nonlinear then you are fucking stupid

bump

I could see F-Zero being in the same world as Metroid but if Star Fox was in the same world as well, it would have to be very far away from Samus or CF's normal working area. but it would explain why we only see one bird in Star Fox.

[Spoiler]Falco is a chozo confirmed JK[Spoiler]

well I messed that up.

R.I.P my life.

...

...

I'd have more but I went to eat. In any case, this bit was good.

What is their obsession with sakurai

I guess they think he'd be able to revitalize the series somehow. I'm not sure what they mean by stagnation, but I haven't played SR yet. Although it didn't look like the sort of thing that would further stagnate the series.

As far as I’m concerned the nips should keep their opinions to themselves. The last time they decided the future of the series we got Other M. Metroid is 2D again, I don’t want them experimenting on the main series again.

>As far as I’m concerned the nips should keep their opinions to themselves.
Well I mean, this is just people speculating on a message board. And there's people arguing against it as well. It's not like anyone at Nintendo would see it and say "Alright, bring in Sakurai and let him do what he wants."

As for what will become of the main series, who knows? All I know is I heard they're supposedly done with remakes for now, so whether we get another 2.5D game or another attempt at third person 3D is beyond me.

>tfw still don't know the devs behind MP4

I sincerely hope it isn't a jap company. Japs are shit at anything first person, it will seriously cast the game's quality in doubt if they have someone like Bamco doing it.

I have a feeling the game will be 2.5D and a sequel to Fusion for the Switch.

There isn't going to be a third person 3D game in quite some time. They've made a commitment to Prime as their only 3D Metroid experience. Whatever comes next for the mainline series will be 2D.

>metroid is turned into a cinematic 3rd person shooter
>Samus is now a lesbian

Ugh, no thanks.

That makes me so happy.

Right because that worked so well with Other M, right? OH WAIT!
