I'm actually surprised that they rushed an update out that quickly. It's not gonna be super helpful in stopping piracy as PS3 doesn't really get new games, so none will require 4.82.
>>396822510
It'll prevent people from going online though, wouldn't it?
I'm tempted to rehack my PS3 again but i'll miss the online functionality and won't be able to sync my trophies to my account.
>there are gonna be faggots on christmas complaining that the 4.81 hack does not work for their 4.82 ps3
>PSN
>Online
>In 2017
Aren't most of those online scenes dead by now?
You really think any PS3's still on store shelves are going to be updated that quickly?
currently, you can play online with 4.81 rebug CFW
They did this a lot with the psp too
Sony did the same thing for Vita. It got an exploit fixing update years after the system was abandoned
They're still up. Some games with no players at all or ran on dead servers like GameSpy shut down though.
yeah like hell I'm going to update now
So is Sony gonna just keep perpetually updating the PS3 everytime it gets hacked? These game companies are really fucking retarded.
Third world countries keep most of the games populated because of the free online.
Theres some really shitty connections, but I never really have a problem finding people to play with in multiplayer games.
Is it detectable by Sony? I have 60 platinum trophies and would hate to be banned. I guess I could just use a different account though.
>game companies are retarded for not wanting their hardware to be hacked
????????
If you get a PS3 for Christmas in 2017 you should just kill yourself because whoever bought it for you clearly doesn't love you.
Sony is arguably worse than Nintendo in that regard. Nintendo pulls this shit too, but once the consoles lifespan is up they tend to let things lie.
Hell, Nintendo encouraged modding for the NES and SNES classic judging by the text files found within them.
>game companies are extremely smart to use ressources, time, manpower and money on hardware that does not generate money anymore and that does not get games and is not even being manafactured anymore
????????????????????
>Is it detectable by Sony?
there is no guarantee but i haven't heard any scene members getting banned. There are some steps (google it - i can't remember) that you should do before going online with CFW
so what is worth putting on a hacked ps3 other than ps3 games? can it emulate PS2?
If I hack my ps3 can I use it to dump Game for emulation use?
PS3 has free online, you can still find matches for pretty much every major game simply because it's free
Yeah I bet Sony assembled the project team of top of the line coders and spent millions to patch an exploit in a few days and not because it was super easy to patch by a small team of interns
Retard
It's too late, Sony. Fuck you, I already downloaded 4.81 and I will install via usb
PS1 PS2 and PSP games.
Not all PS2 games though unless you have the housefire one.
well they did abandon the PSP after the 6.something hack was found and you didn't need that chicken hen exploid.
granted the Vita was alredy out but the system was still getting games.
The PS3 still gets games and probably will until 2018. The PSN store is presumably still functioning so Sony doesn't want people getting free games they could still pay for.
I bought a game off PSN for my vita like last month, so the old consoles still generate some revenue.
Say if I hacked my system, took it offline and used some really obvious hacked homebrew programs and pirated games with it. Would Sony be able to see my consoles history when I take it back online and only play my official legitimate games with it?
Last time I hacked it was back when then 3.55 hack was fresh. Sony sent me an email saying they knew I had a modified system and threatened to ban me. I'm just wondering where the scene is at nowadays since I would hate to lose my account after putting so much effort into it.
I'm pretty sure the only reason Sony gave up was because the PSP was so widely blown open there wasn't a single thing they could do at that point.
If I understand things correctly, the hacking scene got their hands on the sytstem kernel, which means they had 100% control over the entire system software and hardware. Even if Sony tried to roll out more updates it wouldn't do anything since updates no longer mattered if you had the keys to the system kernel.
if i hack my ps3 in the future, will i still be able to play it online and download things from the psn?
i have a lot of peoples accounts on my system, it would be useless without the internet connection
They probably wouldn't do anything about it at this point. If you managed to hack your PS4 though, they'd probably ban you in a heartbeat.
no one knows. your best bet is to lurk around recent forum posts about CFW online to find if there are any recent bans.
like i said before, there are steps, namely kernel spoofing, to minimize your risk of being banned
If you're not on the most recent FW, you most likely won't be able to play online. The workarounds usually get dealt with by Sony pretty quick.
This
they got the private encryption keys, you can't do anything at this point
i figured as much. im gonna download the old firmware in case i ever want to hack it somewhere down the line; im sure sony will remove the download link for 4.81 soon
You need to use psn patch or something. I've gotten console banned before. Of course you can always change the console ID but its a pain
so is it finally worth buying a PS3 or is there still no games?
I haven't played online with my hacked PS3 in years, but you absolutely could do it. You just upgraded to CFW of the same version as the latest OFW and you can go online no problem. The only thing is that when a new update comes out, you have to wait for a new CFW version to upgrade to before going online again.
In addition, there's always the possibility of getting your console banned from PSN if you are running CFW. I'm not sure of the specifics of how this happens, because there are plenty of people running CFW who never get caught. Regardless, after a few years I was eventually banned. I know there's a way to unban your console using some program or something, but I never got around to doing it. The only game I'd even care about playing online at all is demons souls anyway.
there are plenty of games now
much more than say X360
PS3 has been hacked since 2010, my dude. I bought one right before christmas 2010 as soon as I heard it was hacked. Overall a very solid choice. I got to play a ton of games that weren't on PC, and my PC at the time was pretty mediocre so I actually had better performance in multiplats on the PS3. Later on a built a new PC and got less use out of the PS3, and I barely touch it now, but it was definitely a good decision.
Thank god I unplugged my PS3 a couple of days ago to plug in my PS4.
Then again, it's a slim model (CECH-2503B) so I wonder if it's gonna be more trouble to get the 4.81 exploit working.
is it worth for ps2 games? doest it upscale them? the ps2 controller gives me cramps, fuck, modern controllers have spoiled me.
It'll probably work. The hack is basically software downgrade to 3.55. It's some 300x and 400x models that will have problem, while these might not get temporary CFW, there's a chance they might get "temporary", HEN-like hack.
Only the first models had PS3 BC. I'd just buy a cheap PS2 for 20 bucks or whatever and mod it for PS2 games.
>while these might not get temporary CFW,
Meant to say "permanent" with 300x and 400x.
does this shit work with the super slim?
Some games don't work.
Also the PS3 controller is not very different from the PS2's.
No upscaling.
Sweet.
What stuff would I need to hack it when it comes out (flashstick, etc)
>No upscaling
welp.
I'll stick to my crt tv then
wololo.net
>People with newer consoles (Super slims and some models of Slims) cannot install CFW or downgrade, but the team expects to work on a “HEN” kind of in-ram exploit for those models. ETA to start on that work is March.
Probably either PC in the same network, USB memory or both.
Do people still play online with their PS3s? I'd kinda like to boot up Demons or Dark Souls and see how things are now. I remember Dark Souls on PS3 having a fuckton of tryhard japs who were always so thirsty for a win, and all they'd do is hornet ring backstab fish.
>tfw ps plus auto updates
NOOOOOOO
>PC in the same network
So I could transfer stuff from my PC to my PS3 FTP-style (like with a hacked xbox)?
last time I played it was all twinks in undead burg, pretty much dead everywhere else.
Only if you set it to auto update which is your fault.
If it works like previous CFW then all you need is a USB stick
Bought mine in 2011 after trading in 360, ended up with 60 games by 2016, many of which were exclusives
Since this is a webkit exploit, this is mostly likely gonna work like how you hack a Vita or 3DS. Just visit a website in the web browser, your screen will flash some colors, then it takes you to a homebrew menu to install the exploits which you use to install CFW.
I remember when the PS3 hacks first came out. That was before there was real CFW and/or you could just run stuff off a USB. You needed to use a device that could actually execute code, hook it up to your PS3, and then do a specific button sequence on the console at boot and hope it works. There were various devices that could work, but I remember using my TI-83 calculator I had leftover from school. I literally ran PS3 hacks off my goddamn calculator
Yeah I remember that. You needed to enter your PS3 into service mode from a special USB or running software from your android phone or calculator. Eventually that became obsolete when people figure out how to edit official firmware and sign it so the PS3 thinks it's a legit update.
download the 4.81 update on the sony website
who paranoid here?
I can't even think of what id download if I were to get the hack. Everything I want to play on the PS3 is either bought or beaten already.
If you're that afraid of updates, just unplug it.
>model 30xx
I'm fucked anyway right?
this pretty much.
maybe emulators if there are any good ones out there.
PS3 got games this year so I'm not surprised.
Does the hack allow me to use the PS3 2009 slim as a PS1/PS2 emulator?
Yes although PS2 emulation can be spotty depending on what you want to play.
were ps3 isos always this small? I expected it to be double digits because of blu ray format.
nyaa.si
>hacker screamsWE GUN HACK IT BEFORE XMAS
>sony responds
Why the fuck is anyone surprised?
Shit like Nocturne, VP2 and San Andreas.
My PC is not good enough to run these
I don't think many games use the full blu ray capacity
most are dvd sized.
remember xbox 360 ran on dvd, so I guess most multiplats are about that size.
Depends on the game, Vesperia is an expanded port of a 360 game and those are small by default
Wait so the PS3 is finally running custom fw on 4.81?
Sort of.
The exploit (which is coming out Q1 2018) will allow for downgrades for compatible consoles on 4.81.
Newer models (Super slims and some models of Slims) can't run the exploit, but they're gonna start work on an in-ram exploit in March.
No, that's normal. Only some games have ridiculously huge sizes. Mostly stuff like MGS4 and IIRC that God of War game, with those being like 30 GB each. Some of the more typical PS3 exclusives might get into the 10-15GB range like the uncharted games. Most typical games are your standard 3-7GB or so. Some even less.
Bad news VP2 doesn't work at all. The rest work perfectly though.
>sony doesn't abandon the PS3 completely and nerds are bitching
They still make money everyday off psn store
>there will be people complaning here that they updated to 4.82 when the exploit releases
I cant wait
What games are even worth on the PS3?
REEEEE
Is there a wiki for ps2 emulation on PS3?
I've had my PS3 hacked since 2011, so this doesn't really impact me too much, but I'm glad this is happening. I know there's a ton of people who want hacked PS3s but never could because their firmware was too high. Hell, I know 3.55 PS3s actually go for a pretty penny on ebay for this reason. So I'm glad more people will get to play free games, and the more people there are, the more people are seeding/uploaded/hosting game downloads, which makes them easier to obtain for everyone.
this is why annoucing shit early is never good. creates hype that might not get delivered and makes the game companies patch security holes.
What's the best PS3 cfw?
Do any of them have FTP support?
fuck off anime loser
AFAIK they all have FTP support. It's been a while since I've fucked with my software, but I'm pretty sure my version of CFW is the one that starts with a K. I think kmeow?
If the hack isnt out yet how did Sony know what to patch?
Sweet.
I don't wanna have to buy another SD Card.
4.81 was the latest one?
Yeah, you also can't use the store or Netflix without the latest firmware.
Just keep your PS3 completely off the network.
You mean USB drive? PS3 doesn't even have an SD card slot. At least not the slim model I own, anyway.
CFW always gets patched to spoof the latest firmware within days of a new official firmware. There's always a chance of getting banned if your CFW gets detected, although I don't know exactly what triggers this.
>or Netflix
oh fuck. my mom probably updated the fucking thing then
well good luck next time
You can get Memory sticks that use SD/MicroSD cards.
I mean, I guess. But you don't need to buy an SD card for this. I used to use an external HDD, but nowadays I just use a 64GB USB stick. My PS3 originally came with a 160GB harddrive, but I ended up taking that out and replacing it with a 320GB drive from an old laptop of mine instead.
My PS3 has 320GB of space, so I'm not worried about that.
I was thinking more about how i'm gonna install the exploit and any packages.
>mfw i have auto update with ps+
i didnt install it so im safe r-r-right?
So with this hack we will be able to load and play PS2 and PS3 ISOs with an external hard drive?
Sony actually supports their consoles for 10 years.
I can't wait for Xbox X users to be fucked in the ass when the new generation launches in 2020.
