For once, Kotaku is right

...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOW I LOVE OPEN WORLD
I CANT AGREE WITH SOMEONE THAT I HATE EVEN WHEN THEY ARE RIGHT

They're just parroting the general consensus.

Players are starting to realize that actual exploration is more fun than traveling from '?' to '?' on the map

That's not from kotaku

Unfortunately, to no avail.

smo is not a open world game.

big hub levels isn’t the same as one big ass fucking playarea.

Zelda did nothing special beside removing a mini map and adding some fun physics.

Key word, "trying".

I am tired of seeing video game journalism articles on Sup Forums. If I wanted to read them (which I would never), I would go on their shitty websites.
Why can't we get some sexy OC threads going on

Odyssey is not open world.

But Zelda does have a minimap. And it certainly isn't the first game that lets you disable it.

>Odyssey
>open world
Is this person fucking retarded

As opposed to moving to shrine to shrine?
What the fuck did Nintendo do to fix open world?

They fixed the genre by being like every other open world game? Oh wait, it's Nintendo so that automatically makes it "better". I forgot.

SMO is a fucking open world game?

They worked on the environment being highly interactive rather than just atrezzo for the adventure, plus made huge effort to add different navigation tools so just the act of traversing it can be engageing.

What did you do to fix yourself?

I want you to understand the normies love open world
I have a friend that refuses to play anything that isn't open world, and for bonus points he will complain if "you can't make decisions"

Sup Forums should make its own blog and random anons contribute vidya articles weekly

See pic.

Obviously he didn't play it and is just misremembering what he's read on here and other sites about letting you turn it off. I love it when people get tangled in lies online, anonymously.

kill yourself shill rat

whats a "map game?"

>Muh i dun git it so it be dumb
lmao why don't you enlighten yourself and go read about in the countless botw analyses articles that have been published.

unlock sections of the map, it gets populated with icons and you go around hoovering them up.

So, the exact same thing as BOTW.

What if the squirrels poop and pee in the pocket

thanks user i'll stop being a faggot now

I've been saying for years and years that openworld games are the most linear kinds of games because it doesn't matter that there's an order or not. But I've always just got a "HURRR, WHATEVER DO YOU MEAN [expletive]?" anywhere I posted.

Until this year. Nintendo finally shut them up or at least pulled some of wool off their eyes.

except there's a whole well thought out unique level between shrines
unlike the usual bland copy pasta environments with zero level design, random encounters and loot

>Constant ironic counter articles countering articles just released a couple hours ago
Would be a glorious heap of misinformation but fun.

While I agree with you completely, the problem with BOTW is the complete lack of variety in content. I only have one divine beast left and I haven't touched the game in two months because I'm sick of shrines and korok seeds and I especially don't give a shit about the anime cutscenes you can collect. The world itself is better designed than any other open world game though.

>nintendo spent 2017 fixing them
does this sound profoundly stupid? BoTW was 5 years in development, Bing Bing Wahoo was likely being worked on after 3D World launched.

What "journalist" writes like that? What "editor" let this shit slide?
>I threw a temper tantrum

They removed the question marks from the map and now people think they are pathfinders even though there are blatant breadcrumb trails for retards leading to nearly every shrine

He is too sedated to do that

Woah they added a physics system that has been present in games for god knows how long? Based Nintendo, always innovating.

lmao why don't you start forming your own opinions instead of relying on retarded video game """journalists"""?

Fucking lol
I think you mean empty plains and with random enemies wielding random weapons and also random chests with random loot

Nintendogaf is fucking disgusting

what's your favourite game?

I like nintendo's open worlds

It’s hilarious to me that people like you already exist. Open world in its current state has only been around a few years yet you’ve already conformed and trained your brain to treat all open world games the same.

You are literally a brainlet.

>Open world in its current state has only been around a few years yet

lmao and you are calling that user a brainlet

>only a few years
Its been over a decade user.

There's nothing open world about Odyssey

BotW was great though, I must admit

BoTW is exactly like ubishit games and nothing like actually good open world like Gothic 2 or Morrowind. You're the brainlet here, nintentoddler.

I have over 80 hours in the game and only beaten 2 of beasts. Easily worth $60 even if I stop playing now. I could not say the same for TP. It took me ~55 hours to beat and at the 40 hour mark I was already beyond disappointed. Even though it had tons of dungeons the world itself felt empty and there was fuck all to explore outside of going to the next dungeon. It didn't do anything to innovate and it didn't feel like the OOT successor they kept harping outside of the fact that you got to play as "adult" link

>I viewed with horror what the remained of my time with the game would be: It was to be, yet again, a map game.
So how the fuck did you stand BoTW?

Except it doesn't. Most you get is map detailing like roads/landmark names. Shrines only get placed when you find them, because they're fast travel locations.

I agree that it's nowhere near Gothic, but let's give it credit, it's not as dumb as Ubisoft formula.

Shrines are fun cause they have what zelda enthusiast play zelda for
Moving from shrine to shrine is fun cause of free climbing + gliding + shield surfing

>earlier this year, I threw a temper tantrum
>a video game had the audacity to make me think and formulate solutions to problems on my own as I sat there literally shaking, with no hyper streamlined handholding to do the work for me

As much as I hate open world games, is this really the sort of thing (presumably) adult journalists should be confessing to in a published article? The fuck's with calling them "map games"?

>tfw Sup Forums went from sonygaf pre switch release to nintengaf as soon as the switch and botw came out
This is why I don't stop browsing here.

So nintendo is being given credit for trying to fix open world games by making BOTW more like TES?

Sounds like something a Sup Forumsirgin would write.

News articles are Glorified Blogs now, it's no secret.

>Breath of the wild
>good open world
Pick one

Who plays BotW with a map on?

Excuse me?

>What the fuck did Nintendo do to fix open world?

They did nothing but since it's Nintendo making open world games that counts as 'fixing' them. These same people would say Disney was fixing porn if they decided to start producing it.

>didn't like Horizon

OP's onion discarded

all just happy little accidents, user

unless they said nintendo failed then No they're not right

what a waste of good food.

How did BOTW fix open world when it was just Skyrim-lite?

Around the same time, the N64 became more popular than PS1 on /vr/ again. Though that should have happened years ago.

>Pannenkoek2012
>FFXV directors saying OoT inspired them and BotW bringing OoT back into common parlance.
>Dan Houser saying anyone who denies that "Mario and Zelda on Nintendo 64" influenced their games is lying.
>FF7 remake getting bad press over being three parts and rumors of it coming to Switch.

>i have no counter arguments so i'll just start talking shit about HIS taste in vidya
embarrassing

But Mario Odyssey turns into a map game after you open the blocks when you finish the game

>IT'S ONLY RIGHT WHEN NINTENDO DOES IT

It's only right BECAUSE Nintendo does it.

people has been brainwashed to dead for years after skrym, suddenly nintendo makes a game with actual contentboom.

Don't kid yourself, this was a Nintendo fanboy board during the Wii U days too.

You actually explore to find them. There are no shitty map markers, so you get to enjoy traversing the map and maybe find a shrine on the way.

So you're saying that these sorts of games were broken, and Nintendo is trying to fix them again?

Damn that's genius

Nah that was a clear minority, specially when the PS4 BTFO the NSAbox in 2013.

Lowered the resolution so you never want to see the rest of the world.

Nintendo fixed open world design by adding wacky physics?

Yeah that universally-felt asskicking BotW gave every game at E3 2016 was just taken in stride by PC and Sonybros. It did not in any wise inflame them and incite them to shitpost threads about how Switch was going to flop every hour of every day for two months from the conference in January until it's launch.

>It's okay to like Kotaku when they side with my agenda

It's never not okay to like Kotaku unless you're a Sup Forums memester conservative who just hates Gawker because they're liberal. In which case a mongrel dog that runs with its tail between its legs at the sight of conflict should not bark.
