Hahahahahahahahahahahaha no.
What's going to happen is the middle market will disappear completely, taking the Japanese console industry with it as it becomes fully abandoned for cellphone slot machines. Everything you hate about the industry will become WORSE as a result, not better.

After years of shoveling shit, the major publishers are releasing fewer and more expensive games.

These games are not selling well, which is why everything needs tacked on multiplayer and additional monetization. Eventually its all going to boil down to four yearly multiplayer clones with in-game marketplaces, before everything collapses.

Your trips don't lie, user

That's every year of video games since forever. What makes this/next year special?

Things need to get worse before they get better

So basically only Nintendo, Microsoft, and indies will exist and everyone else (the big three, Sony, and shitty weeb games from Japanese third parties) will finally die off horribly. I’m fine with that

2016 was a shitshow and the major publishers released nothing but trash this year (sans Nintendo). Like I said, eventually it's going to become so stale that the normands will drop video games altogether and switch to phone apps and IRL streamers.

>muh cinematic experience
>muh social/political commentary

>muh online multiplayer hamfisted into every game in order to normalize things like
>muh loot crates

>muh weapon skins
>muh day 1 dlc
>muh pre order bonus
>muh season pass
There's only so much nickel and dime-ing people can take before they get alienated

>He doesn't know Microsoft's Xbox division is on it's last legs.
They even killed kinect recently

That's what you said a decade ago, and a decade before that.
Are they getting better yet?

That's the past five or so years of gaming, maybe more. Again, what specific events this or next year will create an economic collapse?

Uh huh

The modern day lootbox economy has proven that the AAA market doesn't need "people" anymore, who have already shown just how bad the shit they can be brainwashed into liking through sheer marketing muscle (see: Overwatch).

We didn't know when it was going to happen, just that it was definitely going to happen.

When kawaiidoody completely runs out of ideas and needs to go back to WW2, then you know the industry is in it's death-spiral

There was never a single even that created any economic collapse.
People like to think it was E.T that caused the video game crash but it was a steady stream of garbage for years that caused it, E.T was just the most famously bad one.

Looks like Sony is dying with the rest.

Name me one good game Microsoft has published in the past five years.

Hell, name me one good console in the past ten.

I knew you were an angry Sonyroach. How does it feel that Sony will die in your lifetime with EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and the Japanese gaming industry while Microsoft, Nintendo, and indies are left?

>>Neofag is dead
Not really, it has just been replaced by resetEra. You cut the head off a serpent and it just grows another!

Dissatisfaction had little to do with it.

Most important was manufacturers stealing technology from each other (Mattel and Sears consoles), then inflation's effects on coin value cutting into arcades (SB Anthony dollar coin not catching on), then publishers undermining the rights of developers (case vs Activision setting for defendant).

Those are specific events which directly caused the collapse. I'm not asking for one event, I'm asking for things more concrete than 'atmosphere' and 'attitude'.

It's MMO tactics...that's where it all stems from. Eventually people will sober up and see it for what it is: exploitation. When they realize that they're being exploited, they'll stop feeding into it. The business strategy perpetuated by AAA publishers here is actually extremely bad because it shows just how out of touch with their customers they really are; they're going to get a short term profit but a long term loss. It's not a sustainable business model because they are actively pushing away consumers and failing to bring new ones in due to the bad reputation their products are getting.
In the end, this clusterfuck of a timeline we're in now will end up very poorly for everyone involved.

That's why you have to burn the stumps
