A stream with Josh Sawyer talking about the backer beta is starting in an hour. They'll probably announce the release date for it. After that, two hours from now, some dude from Twitch will be streaming the beta content. Anyone else give a damn or just me? Can we have a nice comfy Pillars of Eternity thread?

No Sleep For The Watcherâ„¢

gimme a link you nig
Once again Larian has beaten them to the punch and scratched that itch for many.
Sawyer should less time on the interweb explaining what he meant to do with the last game and more time making the current game.
So by and large no...nobody cares.
Stop trying to force this retarded Div:OS vs PoE thing.
Nope, I should be in bed already actually.
I've done over 110 hours for the first game and not yet finished so I'm super hyped to see the new stuff
I'm already pretty convinced that Deadfire will be better than the first game in terms of graphics and mechanics. What I want to know is if the writing holds up, because it sure didn't in PoE.
Post the link fagnigger. I backed it for 100 europoors.
Writing will probably be worse. No Ziets and Avellone, Fenstermaker on a lower role, Megan Starks added as a writer. I expect it to be decent, but nothing earth-shattering. Then again, I liked the writing of the first game, so whatever. I guess I'm easy to please.
Can't link because it's considered spam. Just google "Obsidian Twitch". Stream starts in half an hour.
The problem with pillars 1 is that it's unfocused and meandering, not that anything written is actually bad. Compare Thaos to Jon Irenicus and you see what I mean. Thaos is barely there for most of the story and you have no real reason to want to seek him out and bring him down. They just need to tighten it up for PoE 2 and it will be good.
>Thaos
>a worse villain than Jon Irenicus
>Stop trying to force this retarded Div:OS vs PoE thing.
This.
Despite being RPGs, neither game has anything over the other - both are fundamentally different and focus on different things.
Best tips for ranger build? I wanna shoot arrows and guns in people's faces.
I didn't mean he was a bad villain or worse than Jon Irenicus, I mean Thaos had much less presence in the story than Irenicus did in BG2. Also Irenicus crosses you multiple times throughout BG2 starting with the tutorial giving you reasons to really want to go after him, for most of PoE your reason for going after Thaos is "well maybe he knows something about being a watcher idk lol"
That's really one of my main issues with PoE.
>some weird shit happens
>some batshit insane guy suggests that the weird shit will fuck you up maybe
>you have no real reason to believe him and you experience no consequences of this whatsoever apart from a few bad dreams
>this is apparently sufficient cause to chase a guy who you don't know, but who just maybe might be connected to the weird shit, all the way across the fucking country
>because you're just assuming with no evidence whatsoever that this unknown guy can make the bad shit (which never actually happens no matter what, mind) go away
I mean sure towards the end you actually get a legit reason to go after Thaos because you find out he's causing Waidwen's Legacy to happen (assuming you give a shit about dead babies, which isn't even necessarily the case because you might be playing a selfish dickhole who hates babies), but for most of the story the main character's motivations make no sense at all.
A god coming back from the dead and destroying your castle sounds like a much better hook than the first game
I admit, they've got that going for them at least.

>tfw there will be no option to tell Eothas that you forgive him
There better be an option to blow him the fuck up again.
Nobody wrecks my castle and gets away with it.
As long as based Chair waifu is ok I'm willing to forgive the god of forgiveness like a good priest would do.
Digging it
That and the menu theme particularly bring me back to Diablo 2 Harrogath which is nice.
>when the main menu theme motif plays
She's ok. Le Balance Man confirmed she's on your boat and she'll be the one you have to talk about to upgrade your boat.
How does one get into the combat of these games? Im playing through Tyranny since it was on sale and combat just seems tedious and tiresome. I reduced it to Story mode and my characters just auto attack shit to death and Im having a ton more fun.
Why is Josh so handsome?
Its up
Manswine eye-raping that young woman I see.
Have faith
>As a priest of Eothas, can my character choose not to go completely against the reincarnated Eothas?
>JS: Yes. You can. Remember that you're goal is to find him, so it's not like "Stab him in the face". That's not your goal. So, yes.
Tyranny sucks, it's just spamming abilities while waiting for cooldowns to end. Pillars of Eternity requires more strategy.
sorry for wut? our creators taught us not to be ashamed of our avatars specially since they're such good size n all
I like this change to food, I actually will want to cook now.
Played DOS2, it's trash in every aspect starting from the level of challenge and ending with every single game system: combat, economy, roleplaying. Every single system in that game is unfinished garbage that can be broken by the player without even trying, leading to complete and utter lack of challenge. At this point I am completely serious when I say that no studio other than Obsidian even knows what a RPG is and how to make one.
Did you not play Underrail, for example? I really enjoyed that game.
>Josh Sawyer already talking about nerfs

Played Underrail as well as Expeditions: Viking. They're both good games, but very limited in what they set out to do and cannot really be compared to a game like PoE. Underrail, for example, offers no party interaction or management, which, while not being an essential RPG element (many people have played Fallout and Arcanum without ever recruiting any party members, for example), adds so much to the game that I don't want to directly compare it with PoE. Underrail was way too exploration focused for my liking, but it does have some decent roleplaying, though it's nothing really exceptional on the level of fallout while PoE pushes the envelope of possible roleplaying depth in vidya further than most RPGs out there.
>wounding shot is too powerful
BASED BALANCE MAN
THE GAME ISN'T EVEN OUT YET THE MAD MAN
>No Companions in Backer Beta
Shiiiiiiiiiiiit
Okay fags. What are you?
Liking the sound of Arcane Knight here.
Pure priest of Eothas.
Pure fighter or crusader if the Bleak Walkers are still a thing in Deadfire.
I was going to do Inquisitor, but I actually think Transcendent will be more fun to play.
Maybe Mindstalker for full glass cannon.
Helwalker Monk. No multiclassing. Ready to fuck shit up.
Arcane Knight or plain Wizard
Wherever I go I must cast.
Cipher Cipher.
>Cipher Cipher
>Not Cipher Cipher
Step up your mind games faggot
Sawyer hyping up the encounter design. Hoping he ain't lying.
SAVAGE!
Probably go with warlock or Ravager
>once again Glorious Original Sin victorious Glorious Original Sin no problems great gameplay great story glorious Original Sin leader Larian strong weak cowardly inferior Pillars of Eternity is not as great Glorious Original Sin strong Glorious Original Sin great no problems at all Glorious Original Sin better than stinky Pillars of Eternity Glorious Original Sin is superior to Pillars of Eternity glorious Original Sin triumps over all RPGs Original Sin is the best RPG better than Pillars of Eternity
>those portraits
what's the appeal of this game again it looks like an autistic slavic 12 year old designed it
The portraits change when you leave the tutorial island.
Also, that asshole is playing on console. Look at that shitty DoF, gd.
>what's the appeal of this game again
It appeals to casual normies by calling itself a ""tactical"" turn based """RPG""" while creating an illusion of depth that is believable enough for anyone not familiar with the genre. In truth, the game is a casual shitfest with exactly zero challenge and zero roleplaying once you leave the tutorial island, since none of your character building decisions matter past that point or have any consequences, unless you pick one of the main story characters as your PC and even then you only get a bunch of unique dialogue lines and 1-2 unique quests max.
To be fair, Irenicus was seriously improved by David Warner's VA.
>the game is a casual shitfest
*the game is a casual h&s shitfest
Bleak Walker Inquisitor
This is good. Priests lacking the ability to at least voice their opinions was one of the greatest missteps in the first game considering how much of the game was steeped in gods and their shit.
You had a bit more opportunities as a priest of Eothas but most people would just attack you or call you a cunt if you told them.
So, will I enjoy this game if I loved Divinity: Original Sin 2?
>No Woedica Priest or Steel Garrote Paladin
D R O P P E D
>Despite being RPGs, neither game has anything over the other - both are fundamentally different and focus on different things.
Exactly. Although I think that has more to do with players' inexperience with isometric RPGs these days so they think all the isometric RPGs are the same.
Maybe.
The fact that you liked OS2 tells nothing actually.
Try Pillars 1
>when josh reads out your question and also your name
>dat level up screen
mama mia
Jesus, Sawyer's gonna turn completely grey by the time game is released. He looks like he aged 20 years in about five years.
I'm gonna be going with a firearm-based rogue, I don't really see any obvious multiclassing options for that...
>Beta tomorrow
OOOOOOOOOH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
*joins your party*
He ages like like fine wine however. He's a real silver fox.
oh fug backer beta tomorrow
Ranger is probably a solid multiclass choice for any ranged character.
Take the ghost ranger thing if you don't like having a pet follow you around.
backer beta torrent when
He ages well though
Also hype for beta tomorrow
>Pillars of Eternity
Why do you even care about that shitshow
>autistically awesome
>autistically awesome
What did he mean by this?
>tfw didn't back at beta level
Guess I just gotta pirate.
I didn't back at the Early Access level because I don't want to play it until it's finished, but fuck it, I'm just gonna watch some of the character creation.
>pumped for beta stream
>it's some e-celeb bearded soyboy (probably a rapist) begging for subscriptions
The internet was a mistake
dude sounds like a fucking wrestler
>literally the only legit RPG with a budget
hmmm I wonder why...
>soyboy
Legit just kill yourself
STOP TALKING TO YOUR SUBSCRIBERS, SHOW ME THE DAMN CHARACTER CREATION ALREADY
These aren't really meant to be some mainstream events. Paradox, publisher of the game, probably gave Obsidian fuck all for marketing so they're doing this to get more of the ground level word of mouth attention. Problem is this was also Paradox's idea of marketing for Tyranny - give games to well known streamers so they can shill it for an hour while obviously not giving a fuck.
Paradox ain't the publishers for this. It's Versus Evil.
>legit RPG
I'll grant you that the RPG genre is dead, and this is no exception.
Budget doesn't always make the game in any case.
How embarrassing.
How so, Pillars of Eternity was good, not great but it was a good RPG, and Deadfire looks like it's going to be better.
>inb4 no it's wasn't
>>inb4 no it's wasn't
Well fuck you if you can't handle the truth.
IMO poe post 3.0 is really good and the white march is GREAT.
Hey, those models look pretty good
jesus christ I can't stand this dude
I'll just wait for a torrent tomorrow
Rihanna?
