So Sup Forums, why do you still buy AAA games?
The only AAA games I've got on my steam are the civs, nu-xcom and some shadowrun RPG that came in some $3 bundle with something I wanted*
You guys hate microtransactions and (pointless) cosmetic dlc right, so why actively contribute by buying new CODs or this week's horse armor paid mod on Skyrim?

Modern gaming is going to collapse under its own weight at this rate, I can't fathom spending so much time or money on this sort of stuff, and there's classic charm in old video games.
Hell, I'd accept until the mid-00s or so for acceptable before things visibly went to hell.
I'm trying not to be judgmental, but the economics of it all scare me.
They put everything into graphics and marketing, explaining prices going up to 60/DLC/lootcrats and other stuff. This isn't even factoring in costs maintaining online multiplayer servers plus of course policing them to prevent kewl stuff like see on the *chans from happening.
Since old games, kickstarter indies* and small AA studios or if they rise their early titles from them before satan takes them over are all things I'm not worried here.

Civilization is a classic franchise, you have horrific taste.
The graphics do less and less. I play gaming to escape, and that's why I prefer pixel shit in specific and 2D stuff more broadly. I play SimCity 4 too when I want more properly realistic stuff but honestly, city builders are scenery porn: the genre.
It's faster to play and complete stuff too.

There's probably a close alternate universe where we "just" get a new console crash in a few years and nintendo gets another 10-15 year period like the late 80s/1990s to dominate before new competition arises but their embracing ah, unsustainable practices like paid online/amiibos/DLC for fucking console games means it's not this timeline.

Civ V is fine with lots of mods, a lot of modders did heroic work basically turning the game back into Civ IV whenever possible. They even added back in the cottage economy and if using multiple UPT, the Civ IV damage system amongst multiple units.
The art deco UI was also superior.
Civ 2/4 are the peak of Civ.
Civ 5 is good, it's just not a proper civ game.
