They are pretty average/mediocre. The only strong point is the fappable ensemble of females, but people only fap to Shantae herself. It is overrated otherwise.

Would be my order for games from best to worst. Start with Risky's Revenge to get a feel for the characters and the humor. You don't need to play them in order to enjoy the games, but if you don't know much about the characters you might miss some in jokes.

People generally defend them more for the music and art design and humor than the actual gameplay. That being said, all of them are fairly inoffensive 6 or 7/10 games, above the typical indie game in terms of quality. HGH is a little subpar for the series' standard, they make you do a fuckton of backtracking, which can discourage you from future playthroughs.

I like them, but i would never play them with other people around. 100% pirates curse, 100% riskys revenge. thinking of buying HGH to 100% that too, but i dunno.
humor is generally pretty funny, art is sublime. very good pixelat and normal drawings.
theyre alright if you want an honest opinion. the tracks are quite catchy, and the bosses are fun. I LOVED the final boss from pirates curse. lotta fun.
