Whats the ideal RPG party size? 3 characters? 4? 5? more?

summoner

Four.

the more the merrier

7 if done right

6

san

I enjoy 4 personally

3 is my favorite.

Depends, but usually 4, unless is a trpg.

The main problem is when there are a bunch of available characters that have to be benched and then you cannot change while fighting, just in the damn menus while in the world. If you could change them any time, it wouldnt matter much if are just 3, 4 or 5+

1, I don't need baggage

2-6

4.

came here to post this

It's gotta be 4. Cover the 3 archetypes and have an an extra.

Largely depends on how many system the game has and how different characters can take advantage of it.

If your RPG is simple enough, 3 is fine as it covers all roles.
4+ if you need gimmick characters

4. Healer, physical damage, magic damage, extra/tank.

4 gives the most flexibility while being relevant, 5 and above your just filling roles to fill them

>extra/tank
Boss used [Super Hyper Ultra Wombo Combo - AoE Editon]
Your party has fallen...

6, but you get 5 so you never feel like you have everything covered.

This.

More characters means more complexity. So yes.

I'm fine with whatever party size as long there isn't a ridiculous amount of reserve members

>hey our game has 50 party members but only 3 can battle at a time

>When you have a roster of 50 characters and they're all completely forgettable
Fuck yeah Chrono Cross

Literally XCX.

>all those party members
>4 of them and can't even carry reserves despite the game has a reserve menu(it actually removes them from the party, probably a last minute change or idk)

Also forgot to mention
>BUT Elma&Lin + your avatar are forced in all the story missions and most affinity missions, taking 3/4 slots

This fucking game.
I like it but why, why this?

Ideal enemy party size: 5 (Big Bad + Four Heavenly Kings).
Ideal hero party size: 4 (healer, magic cock, tank, archer).

2

Chrono Cross had loads of memorable characters. Skeleton Clown, Gay Magician, Luchador Priest, Sexy Jester, Cat Man, Australian Girl, Chef Man, Gay Dog Thing, Dragon, Mushroom, Pirate, Slut Dancer, Gay Guitarist, Flower Child, Straw Man, Turnip Man, Goblin, Space Alien.

i fucked that up.

5

I like the way how BoF4 did things

3 but being able to swap people out during battle

High dps attacker
Tank to draw aggro
Healer to keep everyone alive
Spellcaster to deal elemental damage and exploit weaknesses

This is the definitive party composition.

5

when you first started FF5 what jobs did you give everyone?

i did 2 knights 1 black mage and one white mage

4 is objectively the perfect number for a well balanced party.
