Are JRPGs objectively the best genre in terms of monetary value

Most JRPGs are 100-200 hours long for $60 where as nearly every other genre is 9-20 hours, sometimes even less.

Is there a single genre that gets you more for your money than JRPGs? Only thingI would think would be Sim games like Train or Farm sim but even Im not that autistic.

bump

Grand strategy games are even better, 200 hours is just the beginning for them.

The RPG genre as a whole is the crown jewel of video games as a medium.

Depends on the game, obviously. Also, I think it's worth mentioning sale prices here since we're talking money. I got 200 hours out of a single playthrough of TW3 + expansions which was $20 on sale. I would say that RPGs in general give you more play time per dollar, but unfortunately tend to add quite a bit of grind to pad that out.

Online shooters are.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of enjoyment

I've been wanting to play this game since 2008, should I just go for it?

Quality> Quantity m8

I'm a JRPG fan too but how many of those hours are spent doing memorable things? Not many. I'd rather have a 20hr JRPG filled with unique and memorable moments than a 100hr slog filled with fetch quests.

>Quality> Quantity

I cant think of a single good single player game from the west in the past 10 years so that point is moot, would rather pay for a 100 hour rpg than 5 hours of a cawwadooty campaign

Do it. It has shitty parts but otherwise it's really unique. Buy ps3 not xbox 360 version because they polished it up more.

Kind of. JRPGs and RPGs in general tend to have bloated content. Whether it be from excessive side quests, like in FF 15, elongated stories to pad out the game, like in Ni No Kuni (We must get this item from this place that needs to be unlocked by saving the town. Then you need to go to the dungeon, and when you get back to the guy you need to give the item to a character just drops it, and you have to go through another side quest to defeat a boss, and after that you have to go here then there and finally defeat the boss.), or just sometimes 100+ hours is not always enjoyable. Persona 5 is one of my favorite games, but I still got fatigue around the 60 hour mark.

I mean, if you like wasting your time by doing repetitive task over and over until you're strong enough to advance the story...

This. Fuck westshit and the SJW cucks who play it. How can anyone enjoy playing identical CoD clones again and again?

>200 hours of gametime
>190 hours is repetitive grinding in repetitive dungeons

Yeah, real great 'value' there

Depends on the game. The statement "most JRPGs are 100-200 hours long" is kinda bullshit and you know it.

SNES JRPG's weren't that long
PS1 Multi-disc JRPG's weren't that long.
Even PS2 Multi-disc JRPGs weren't that long.
Modern JRPGs like the shit Compile Heart is pumping out don't even come close to that.

However, in the glory days of JRPGs; they were the best bang for your buck. But the advent of online multiplayer, and staleness of the genre made it obsolete.

That said, Eternal Sonata was a lot of fun.

I'm just saying when you boast about "muh hundred hours of content", typically it's a redflag that the game is padded from hell to back.

I'm not even a fan of most western games so not sure where you got that from.

This guy gets it.

>Persona 5 is one of my favorite games, but I still got fatigue around the 60 hour mark.
I didn't. And I usually do with the genre. P5 is probably the best JRPG out there imo.

I agree. Story wise it is my absolute favorite, but when you are doing the same thing over and over for quite a while it gets boring. I say P5 handles it nicely because once you get to the Shido arc everything sucks you back in like I was playing the first arc all over again.

Most JRPGs are no longer than 50 hours though. That 100-200 hours is bs as fuck.

>Eternal Sonata
>Doesnt last forever

yeah...great value..

I don't think I have the stamina to play many JRPGs anymore, I really only finish 1 or 2 a year now. I used to devour them as a teenager, but I don't really know if it's just a case of getting burned out or what.

>what is New Vegas, Divinity: Original Sin (&OS2), Total War Warhammer, Witcher 3, Prey, DX: Human Revolution, Dishonored, Xcom 2...

JRPGs have the worst fun - boredom ratio of any genre so it evens out, enjoy spending dozens of hours of your life spamming attack on trash mobs.

>online shooters

Kill yourself

When they don't split that 100 hours between several games, yes.

user, no.

We stretched the tutorial out by 50 hours then stretched the gameplay for another 150
10/10 JRPGs are the best

Honestly this, I love JRPGs but there's a reason Adverture Time called their Dragon Quest spoof "Age of Grinders"

>Final Fantasy
>It's not final

>Doom
>End goal isn't doom

>Need for Speed
>Get arrested for driving too fast

>this is the best west can do
Pathetic. Only literal shit-eaters play westshit.

Eternal Sonata is a goddamn masterpiece and genuinely does deserve a re-release to current gen or Steam

It can be 400 hours long for all i care. If the gameplay is shit it isnt worth it. Last game that comes to mind was Persona 5, goddamn that game shouldve ended 40 hours ago.
I hope youre not implying Eternal sonata is a good jrpg.

>not realizing that was a jab at the faggotry rampant in the Adventure Time fanbase

hours =/= fun

Are you fucking retarded?

Durr if I make a game that never ends it must mean good value xDDD ?

I disagree.

Strategy games give you the most bang for your buck be it multi or single. Well at least they used to no thanks to Pradox and Sega.

Only downside is reliance on limited AI.

>Durr if I make a game that never ends it must mean good value xDDD ?

Isn't that literally the marketing strategy of every rougelike out right now, that get praised for that very aspect?

You dare to bare your fangs?!

>Monetary value
That really depends of what are you looking for in a game. Many people think RPGs are just padding and repetitive shit with long sequences for everything. Other people enjoy hundreds of hours playing fighting and FPS games.
Also, how you define monetary value? People love Doki Doki Literature Club and that shit is free.

JRPGs always have shit tier level design and gameplay though. I could buy a good RTS, FPS, strategy/builder and have a way better time for much longer. There probably a million Doom maps alone that have actual gameplay or interesting value.

Is Eternal Sonata ever gonna go on sale for PS3?

I bought it for $10 last weekend from jewstop.

>100-200

No. Doing the fluff that lets you 100% a game doesn't count, so most JRPG's are 40-60 hours, which is still a good value proposition without lying about it.

Will have to check out the ones near my place. Thanks user!

>look someone anonymously said it was a good feature ergo it is a good feature

Why totally not someone shilling their own garbage.

A 2 hour game that actually sticks with you is better then a 200 hour game with 30 minutes that sticks with you

Building on that, the only people that like to hear the "WOAHH 200 HOURS" meme are people with no lives and desperately need to fill the void they consider existence

How exactly? Jake was playing a turn-based JRPG, lost all his data, then got up and did something else.
Mind explaining how that has anything to do with the literal r/adventuretime faggots? Or are you just mad I pointed out that JRPGs are tedious?

MMOs trumps JRPGs. Strategy and shooters too depending on your tastes.

This game was suprisingly good.

But regardless, I think JRPGs is the best transtion from visual novels to video game, espeically when looking at series like Persona which would work fine as VN.

That said, whether I agree with you depends on games, as some JRPGS are fucking garbage and add essentially mini-games between story.

>

like Grindr

The games I have invested more hours in are all WRPGs.

*ahem*

>endless grinding
>pay to win
>gacha
>loot boxes
I can see how MMOs are superior

I fucking loved this game.
The ending is kinda 2deep4me

Or you could just play the games and not be a meme fag.

>playing westshit
kill yourself

Yeah Gothic II and Divinity are way better than any weeb trash from the last decade.

I play JRPGs and WRPGs both and anyone who actively refuses to play something just because of a J or W at the start of its genre needs to die.

I'm not being hyperbolic, if you're that fucking petty you need to be turned into pig food and plant mulch so you can be useful for something you cocksucker.

But why would anyone want to play western casualshit when you could play something better? Do you really enjoy playing almost-identical cowadooty clones again and again?

Does the story in Tokyo Mirage Sessions gets good at some point and stops being about idolshit?

Ahhhh, pardon I forgot Grindr was a thing. Now it makes sense

>irrelevant character gets stabbed
>spends 15 mins giving a monologue on the floor dying alone
Literally the only thing I remember about ES

Oh yeah I remember that too

she was a bitch anyway, good riddance

What can you expect from soyboys who like westshit?

>Do a sidequest
>Suddenly you revive her
It was weird, totally forgot about her and just wanted to fight more enemies(really enjoyed the combat and abusing Viola)

what was her name

>get Jazz and Viola in your party
>steamroll the unholy fuck out of everything
gg2ez
really hope they put this on PS4,
a platinum will give me an excuse to play it again

I feel like it took me ~10 hours to get to the final dungeon in Eternal Sonata and then got tired with the tedious final dungeon. Mostly used the bow girl and two handed sword guy once you got them. Loved the gameplay but the last dungeon was such a let down.

Maybe, but regardless, Eternal Sonata was mediocre at best. That gorgeous presentation and unique combat was wasted on the generic plot and forced linear progression.

also it should have just been about Falsetto and her gang

>Loved the gameplay
Same though, this was before I played any tales games like ToV. Also another thing I remember about about ESPN is those damn T poses during cutscenes

ES*
damn Autocorrect

>200 hours of boredom
>All that shit grind
>Terrible battle systems
>Horrible overworld bullshit
>No player choice
>No role playing
>No character building
>Game may as well okay itself

I could make a game more fun than this.

>Playing the same six maps

>Also another thing I remember about about ES is those damn T poses during cutscenes
I love those poses, but I don't know why...
