Fallout 3 vs. Fallout: New Vegas

What are some of the creative differences between these two games? Where does one succeed where the other fails? Which used the engine to the greatest potential?

You must be new here.

NV had better writing
3 had better atmosphere

Oh and by the way
yore
ugleh

>3 had better atmosphere
i hate this meme, new vegas had better tone and aesthetic than 3 ever did

What atmosphere are you talking about? It was dull and ugly compared to new vegas

...

>dull and ugly
You mean dull and green

>3 had better atmosphere
Stop this

I enjoyed them both but prefer 3.
NV was more narrative driven leading to use of invisible walls as a way to guide the player along the intended narrative.
That was my biggest complaint. It wasn't a deal breaker but killed any desire to replay it.
I am not a fan of repetition.

You're a fucking idiot. NV has way more choices and paths than the linear main quest of 3. The only "choice" you make in 3's mainquest is whether to put the modified FEV in the water, and that literally doesn't do anything. The only other thing I can think of is if you want to nuke an entire town for no reason or not.

Fallout 3 is somewhat less buggy than New Vegas. It also felt more like a 'dead' world than Vegas.

Otherwise New Vegas is superior in every other way that matters. Better guns, choices that have more impact, interesting characters, better perks, etc.

>dev puts walls to prevent player from getting outside the map
>MUH EXPLORATION
Just kys

Does anyone know of a mod that turns the Air Vents in the mojave into containers like those found in Dead Money?
I like stuff.

>atmosphere
you spend the whole game in sewers, metro tunnels or ugly ass filth-buildings that all look identical. NV's deserts are somewhat atmospheric. At least the new west thing is a novel and consistent theme. Much better than everything being retarded and coated with shit.

The dead world thing did nothing for the game. There's nothing fun about minimal npcs, wasteland and a million flooded tunnels and trashed buildings. You'd think the bombs went off 200 seconds ago rather than years.

>Fallout 3 is somewhat less buggy
Not even close to true

I am not heading south and making the J turn over and over and over to see them user.

Yes I am aware of the back door and have no desire to do that over and over and over again.

You seem to not understand my dislike of repetition.
NV was good but I liked 3 better.

>The dead world thing did nothing for the game.

Honestly I agree 100% as I prefer NV's world greatly over F3. I only mentioned it because I know some people were looking for that in a post apocalyptic game. But yes, it just translates into less content.

I haven't played it in some time, but I remember close to launch it was a mess. My memory may be comparing late F3 patches to early NV, which isn't fair.

Ok, so F3 did nothing better. I stand corrected.

>I am not heading south and making the J turn over and over and over to see them user.
Then don't.
>I am aware of the back door and have no desire to do that over and over and over again.
Then don't.

>better writing
>better factions
>better gun play
>more choices
>more endings
>interesting locations
>better DLC
NV is way better.

President Eden wanted to use the water purifier to purge the wasteland of mutation, but Colonel Autumn wanted to use it for it's purpose, so he could use the goodwill action to re-establish the Enclave as the legitimate regional government. Do you get that? Eden and Autumn are at odds, hence why Eden tries to go behind Autumn's back to recruit the Lone Wanderer to sabotage the machine with FEV. Autumn is aware of the President's plan, and thus shows up at the purifier to make sure the Lone Wanderer doesn't carry out Eden's plan.

The Brotherhood of Steel doesn't want a competing military power such as the Enclave to gain a foothold in the region by winning the approval of the wastelanders.

I'm not sure what part of that is confusing; no group in the game wants the other group to claim a massive victory for themselves, even if the goal is the same (except for Eden trying to purge everyone).

But yeah, I don't get why Fawkes wouldn't just do that shit.

Those are the only two options user.
Invisible walls remember?

New Vegas atmosphere sucked. A wasteland in the desert just looked like... the desert. Fallout 3 benefited from a much better location, things genuinely seemed ruinous when you're wandering around a decimated city that represent the absolute fallen seat-of-power for the country.

>DAE NEW VEGAS IS JUST A DESERT????

3 has a green tint and NV has an orange tint

both suffers from that terrible engine but NV had actual writing and rpg elements which made the game miles ahead of what FO3 was

I am 150 hours into NV and want to start playing 3.
What should I expect? Mods I should use?
I love NV and expect to like 3 at least as much, but that's just my speculation

Get a mod that lets you skip the god awful intro

what
do
they
eat

bro its 200 years AFTER the bombs fell, it should be a wasteland. 200 years ago america still had slaves and jefferson was still alive. america was founded like 40 years earlier. civilization should not be this run down

youre in for a world of disappointment

I understand people looking for a post apocalyptic game, but fallout at heart is post-post apocalyptic.

3 feels different than NV, it has that sort of bethesda cheesiness to it. The main story forces you to join the moralfag brotherhood.

Steel be with you

>Fallout 1, less than a century after bombs fell
>civilized society has already formed, towns have been built

>Fallout 2, a century and a half after bombs fell
>even more societies, actual cities are built

>Fallout 3, 200 years after bombs fell
>retards and poorfags living in shitty piles of rubble and eating canned pre-war garbage, not bothering to clean up and establish society
fuck off bethesdrones, fallout 3 is the worst fallout by far.

Download tale of two wastelands.

Done.
Stop this fucking meme argument.
