Let's be fair, I'm only at chapter 7 or 8 or somewhere there, so my sample size is limited.
Lots of the scenes have been pretty vanilla. Like, the ass-nectar bit was good, but kinda small bit and I was hoping for the twins to get proper threesome scene. Most scenes are not terrible, but I also have little interest of returning to them.
One with fox was fine. I've returned to that few times.

Still, considering the time investment I lack motivation to keep going.

Would it be a good idea for me to read the Heavens Feel route before watching the movie? I could never get into the VN because it feels outdated as fuck but I've heard heaven's feel is one of the best routes to experience as far as VNs go.

Biggest issue I have with thier works is that there is too much fluff content that it starts to get really boring to read, it's a shame I love the timeskips but it's so poorly executed in tone works games. Same problem exists in the Amakano series, even when one of the heroines had my favorite VA voicing her I just couldn't get through the route

Maybe pure love story is not just your cup. I love Hoshi Ori, Ginharu, and Aikagi (another Azarashi Soft's VN who make Amakano) because they has long romance and fluff small or no drama in-between, if I get tired of it I can just put it down to read another VN before picking it up again on later date, because I don't have to worry about grand plot or anything like that.

Visual novels don't exactly have good writing in the first place (mostly) and rely on waifu pandering to sell. It's why when you have a vanilla story it's boring as fuck.

Nah I agree with him. I love sappy shit and have watched my fair share of shit dorama, but you really need good writing and compelling characters at the bare minimum.

Subahibi is probably the one where the usual shit writing that seems to be endemic to VNs bothered me the least. The story was okay, if you can ignore the giant plotholes and the excessive sexual violence that really serves no real point in the story. Most other VNs that try to have emotional plots generally fall flat for me because of how boring the whole "girl with incurable disease / secretly an angel / secretly gonna die in a few months and needs saving" angle tends to be, but Subahibi subverted that rather nicely.

I'm actually in the process of reading through it at the moment. Second door is my favourite so far, and I'm about a third of the way through the third door, I think? I've pretty much fallen in love with the artwork. It's a visual treat.
