Thank god my R9 290 still holds up fairly well in games.
Good lord man.
I bought that same brand of RAM 16GB for around 75 bucks, what is the reason it jumped in price now?
Fuck right when I need to buy ram the prices are insane and show no signs of going down.
Phones.
I'm not sure I follow, m8
Are GPU prices still up? When is the next line of GPUs coming out?
>1070
>When Vega 56 exists
Factories are manufacturing RAM for phones, and now there is a RAM shortage.
I'll shamelessly use this thread to ask.
Is it worth to buy a 1080 now or should I go for a 1080ti?
Should I upgrade a 4790k
Money isn't an issue but I don't want to make a meaningless upgrade
I'd say 1070 or 1080ti. 1080 is an intermediary stage that isn't worth the extra price you pay
really wanted to build a new pc but this ram and graphics card shit is just too much. prices need to go down or im not upgrading my shit for years to come.
>"gaming"
I will forever hate that word used when used as an adjective for a product.
>Friend wants to make PC
>Show him alternative things to buy to save money for same performance
>"BUT THIS MOTHERBOARD IS MADE FOR GAMING IT SAYS SO"
>tfw upgraded my ram to 32gb and it cost me 400 canabucks
is that good or bad?
It's about time to upgrade my i5 3570k, but even if I just upgrade the CPU mobo and RAM that's looking to be around $450-500 bucks right now, and my GPU is getting pretty old too. Might as well spring for an entirely new build at this point but god is it the worst time to do it. FUCK.
That doesn't make sense, it's not like phones use the shit in the OP
very bad you could get a ps4 pro at that price
1070 can do 1440p at 70-80fps for every game, 1080ti can do 1440p at 100+fps for every game. 1080ti still can't do 4k 60fps for every game, so unless you wanna wait till the next series of cards the 1070 is your best buy for this generation.
I don't see the word gaming anywhere in the OP's pic.
>tfw stuck with 1080
>but it's a good thing because I got if for free via warranty after my 980TI fans died
I'm gonna wait until 1180TI or something, the difference should be great.
If purely gaming, nah, if you need more headroom for games and you want to stream and video edit, get Ryzen 1700(x) as the socket is alive and supported, coffinlake is on a dead socket and needs a delid so it runs cool.
Still use my dual R9 290x's, I'm gonna be warm this winter.
>1080ti still can't do 4k 60fps for every game
Let's not pretend this is the sole qualifier. There will always be games that have framerate issues, but you'll be able to run more games at 4K than you would have been able to with a 1070. Far more. The real question is if you have a 4K display or not
I got those for equivalently $65 a while ago, I checked the same site I got it from and last they had them in stock they went for $99, the prices has literally skyrocketed in a relatively short window of time.
probably the manufacturing lines are being dedicated to phone rams while less so for computer desktop ram, so supply is taking a dip and prices are hiking up?
Wait so now RAM prices are skyrocketing? Is this that shitty bitcoin mining meme again? I have about 8gb that Ive used for years and they were decently affordable back when I bought them.
>just wait for the crypto fad to go away they said
>any day now they said
Dude shut the hell up, you don't know anything.
Actually fine, buy your low-grade shit while I smash you with my +20% gaming performance from my gaming chair, which I just preordered.
Then you're blind. Look at the name of that GPU, soyboy.
instead of making desktop RAM, factories are making phone RAM
But with DDR4 prices shooting up, the performance per sterling/dollar might make you question if it's worth any upgrade, my ram was £50 over what I expected.
The only thing more overpriced than RAM right now is fucking 4k displays. It's still a meme resolution and no fucking way am I spending that much money to get sub 60fps in some games.
does i5 3570k really an upgrade in place of a newer GPU?
Wait for them to overflow on the used market for half their non-jewed price.
Especially when this cryptocurrency shit crashes on its ass.
You can get 90-100fps in 4K easily if you don't use ultra graphics. Ultra graphics are just a meme it looks EXACTLY THE SAME at high/v high settings but runs 40 frames per second faster
I run into that a lot when helping people build PCs. They don't give a shit if this build is actually better, they just want what the latest magazine or commercial has told them to get. I got some fucker asking me for a build, but he's dead set on using a 1070 nvidia to play fucking guild wars 2. Jesus christ
It's 5 years old user.
What's the point of playing on a higher resolution/density if you're going to lower details though ? The whole point of having more pixels is to enjoy those details.
>tfw still on an i3 after all these years.
Sounds like itll have to be a couple more years before I upgrade it with this shitty crypto garbage hiking everything
>2013: I'll wait before investing in crypto currency
>2014: I'll hold off, the bubble will burst any time now
>2015: I'll hold off, it's not like it can keep going on a steady incline
>2016: ....any day now...
>2017: FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!
>1070
Can't the 6GB 1060 run everything at 60 already that aren't trashy FOTM AAA games?
bought my 16 gb DDR4 for $136 like half a year ago
maybe you shouldnt lag on buying shit
>tfw stuck with a 980
It can't be worse right?
I have a 970. Does what I need.
My 980ti runs fumark 4k at 72 fps
At 1080p the 1060 is perfect, but that resolution isn't going to be the default soon.
How does dedicating all your resources towards producing one thing cause a shortage of another thing you're currently not focusing on producing not make any sense?
what the fug I bought a 1070 30 years ago for that price
We dont even need to go into detail.
The details aren't lowered. You cannot tell the differnece between ultra and high.
Guild Wars 2 is still alive?
Then why are you even bothering with 4k ?
To be fair it's not like that could be used as a computing/rendering gpu (with convincing results) and there's no reason to own one unless you plan to play games
so I think it's not wrong at all. For the others, though, I get what you are talking about
4k at ultra doesn't matter, but you need 4k textures to appreciate the detail. So its either buddy textures and 60fps, or hyper detailed 4k textures with sub 60fps.
>just wait for -
never wait for
>but that resolution isn't going to be the default soon.
Thats not the point, the 1060 performs slightly worse than the 970/980.
What else can you do besides getting ascended and legendaries?
How do we get RAM prices back down to reasonable rates? I went with 8GB 2 years ago thinking I could upgrade for a nominal fee when it was appropriate, but now the $40 i spent on 8GB is $100 and 16gb is double that. FUCK.
Because there is a huge difference between 4k and QHD
...
why would i want to do that?
i also have an i5 7600k and a gtx 1060 6gb so my pc is far better than the ps4 performance wise
Literally me right now.
This, buy first think later. Refund if you regret it.
What if my main goal right now is to have 60fps/120fps for years to come. I don't really care about 4k or 2k since my screen won't allow it anyways.
Money is not really an issue but I don't like to throw it into the bin either.
Thanks fellas
>cryptocurrency was fucking up GPU prices when I got my R9 290 4 years ago
>still causing problems now that I want to upgrade to Vega 56
fuck
If you want that kind of FPS at 1080p then a 1060 is fine, if you want to to stay with a 1080p display for the next 5 years go with a 1070.
Not in the US they're not. Prices are dropping rapidly all across the board. Specifically AMD GPUs.
For the rest of the world, tough luck.
I remember anons giving away their left over bitcoins on Sup Forums after they bought stuff on silk road back when it first started showing up here.
You mean we're getting past 1080p? If that's the case then AAA companies will need to optimize 4k for a 1070 since that's the highest a console has ever been.
Are you retarded? The 970 is worse but can match the 1060 pretty easily with a small overclock
Source: I have both
>Slightly more expensive on average, depending on your location can actually get it cheaper than 1070.
>Performance of 1080 even with incomplete drivers when flashed to 64, only gonna get better from here.
Really hard choice.
>be poorfag entire life
>always forced to play 10 yo games or really light ones
>finally starting to have some money
>price spikes everywhere
So what's the cheapest less painful way to kill myself?
>depending on your location can actually get it cheaper than 1070
inb4 reference toaster model
that picture hurts
...
I'm pretty sure the 1060 performs better than the 970. Or well, I guess in terms of what you'll see, it's basically identical, but the 1060 draws less power. It's just a more power efficient 970 essentially.
Not sure about RAM but GPUs are through the roof thanks to Bitponzi.
That's all there is atm?
Friendly reminder that this is what Bitcoin Miners are like IRL
gj mr 290
You actually right, the 1060 outperforms the 970 barely. Still not a reason to upgrade from my 980 though.
I'm thinking of getting an IPS monitor. I'm kinda used to 5ms TN panels, is the change to a 1ms monitor that noticeable?
bitcointalk.org
>Thread on forum still exists
It's ponzi-esque.
Watch it burn soon.
I got lucky as fuck. Built this last year for $1100
pcpartpicker.com
This long since launch and there are still no aftermarket solutions? Usually it takes like a month or two, lmao.
Regardless, you're not gonna find any Vega 56 under an averagely priced 1070. Which is a good thing because 56 is slightly faster. the 1070ti is a death knell for Vega though.
>hey look at how much one bitcoin is worth omg !!!
>wait what are saying ? I can't actually exchange it for real money unless it's at a 40% rate with a 500$ cap ?
>1070 ti trades blows with Vega 56
>death knell for the platform
???
>depending on your location can actually get it cheaper than 1070.
Yea I bet its a lot cheaper there in india. Now begone shill.
I've used both and honestly I can't see much of a difference between 5ms and 1ms. I actually think it's just a placebo (for me).
Been using an IPS here for a few years, I really like the colors. Mine is 5ms and it doesn't bother me at all.
everyone and their mom wants to get into bitcoin mining and now gpu and ram prices basically gone through the roof
fuck miners
>G.SKILL Ripjaws V
I don't get it, is this being marketed to little children? They don't have $400+.
>32 GB
For what purpose?
Reading comprehending.
Considering Vega draws power like nobody's business and depends on the still inferior AMD drivers it's definitely a bad deal. I buy AMD because they're usually quite a bit cheaper not because I want to support le underdog.
>tfw upgraded to DDR4 back in 2015 and missed out on this price gouging
what the fuck man
AMD cards age like fine wine. 290 traded blows with the 970 but is basically 100% a better card now.
Also power draw is a bit of a meme. 300w load versus 250w from the 1080.
Fucking why
What about this guy?
