Mount and Blade: Warband is great
Not all the way through this yet, but the game feels very dense and the main scenario is full of all the RPG openness that you see in the golden-age titles this is getting compared to. That said, as a game it's been super hit or miss from segment to segment and I'm not quite sure if the combat it's built on is deep enough to really keep me around once I've found all the sidequests and different ways to progress.

It peters out in the last city a bit. Quest resolutions are handled messily sometimes, too easy to break something and there are glaring bugs that should have been stomped in early access. There's almost zero consequence for your actions and most quests and characters are restricted in terms of how they intertwine. Dialogue is also really messy and if it wasn't for Party members basically being an another attempt at talking to someone, it's really too easy to offend NPCs sometimes and I do read the dialogue, it's just that not being agreeable just flat out locks you out of everything or certain rewards. I have alot of complaints about the combat too, but I was honestly underwhelmed by Divinity 2. Great end boss fight though, at least in the first phase. 2nd phase was poorly designed, another example of the weird inconsistent design of the game.
