People have been bringing up this photo so many times that it no longer bothers me. Quite honestly the people who are bothered by it seem kind of thin-skinned and overly-sensitive at this point.

If the story is true, this is probably the mildest out of the many, many other horror stories out there with serial killers. I don't understand how attaching a face to one specific victim is more terrifying or heartbreaking than the countless others who suffered and died without any attention from a bunch of Internet manchildren.

That looks like a pretty realistic "someone is pointing a gun at you" gesture.

You do understand it, but you have too many edges to admit it.The situation is uniquely horrifc. The pictures allow us to identify with the victim's fear and dread at what she must have known was coming.

Attaching a face to it is exactly what produces empathy and causes us to imagine what she must have been feeling before her death.
