Why is it so bloated? This isn't a case like Sunshine where they didn't get enough time, the sandbox stages are all pretty solid and there's a ton of nice linear levels.
Why did they feel the need to stuff it with random ground pound spots, rolling rocks, and Moons clear out in the open? And achievement Moons, really? Is the number 880 important to Nintendo for some reason?

I think the idea was that everyone's playthrough would be at least slightly different because of the wealth of options.

Literally what said.
They included a huge number of random Moons such as that to make things easier on people just looking to cruise through the game and see as much major content as possible by making it likely that they could literally trip over enough moons to beat any level while heading right towards the boss fights.
It also encourages exploring the kingdoms to their fullest and the moon purchasing system means that for those who DON'T enjoy hunting them down they can just fucking buy them instead.
Everyone wins, except maybe the minority of purist autists who refuse to use store moons and hate hunting for the random ones but still seek 100% completion just to watch numbers go up.
Jeremiah Perry
I like the game though.
Thomas Jones
It's designed for a portable console user. When a kid goes on a 10 minute car ride he will have progress to show for it, a good amount of moons. If he was playing something like Sunshine he'd get a few SS at best. They want their audience to feel rewarded no matter how short or long they play.

So it's casualized instant gratification bullshit for ADD generation then

Why has literally every Switch game released ever caused so much butthurt on Sup Forums? SMT V's reveal nearly caused Bayo 2 levels of salt.
Leo Jenkins
I seriously like Mario Odyssey but, it's Mario, what did you expect ?
Charles Long
>Why did they just blatantly leave stuff sitting about
Because Nintendo is creatively dead, thats why they have to rely on faggy motion control gimmicks all the time now and padding like the extra moons.
Dont get me wrong, they took a step in the right direction with odyssey, you'd have to be in reality denial to deny that. But it still suffers in spots from modern Nintendo's improper mentality towards design in some places.
Owen Adams
You didn't play it though.

Shitch only has 3 games so nintendies have nothing else to talk about

Nice meme, fellow Nintendogaffer

But you didn't play it.

I don't think it's padded at all though, I said it's bloated. There are plenty of Moons that require platforming proficiency or mild exploration, though I will say there are a lot of places that take more interesting jumping that just give you piles of coins. But it feels like they did those first then dotted the map with obvious/ground pound the spot ones.
Jackson Hill
Sup Forums is full of console war losers and kids that over compensate for their lack of maturity. Neither camp can simply appreciate this game (or many others) for what it is.
Juan Bailey
these, and the achievement moons are to help you get to dark(er) side quicker
Jordan Wilson
I agree. I think it would have been better if the korok seed tier moons were other collectible instead. I think they did it to allows the very casual public (6 and 60 years old) to move foward in the game without ever being stuck (since there is set number of moons to collect in order to go to the next world)
Mason Wood
>places that take more interesting jumping that just give you piles of coins
Yeah, those were fun to get but some of them should've been Moons
Aiden Kelly
That goes against the design of being able to get pretty much every moon without doing a relatively complex set of moves. You're never required to use the double jump off of Cappy to get a moon although using the double jump can save time in many cases.

>except maybe the minority of purist autists who refuse to use store moons and hate hunting for the random ones but still seek 100% completion For real though. Any chance whatsoever of Mario Odyssey receiving some kind of expansion with an additional world or two with at least 119 additional moons?
I got all the 880 moons. And I bought all the costumes. And I could easily get the money for buying 119 additional moons. But knowing that you can purchase an infinite number of moons just makes the very act of purchasing moons from the store beyond the initial one per world, feel filthy and disgusting. If there was a finite 119 moons then I could just purchase all of them and I'd get the 999 and it'd all be fine and dandy. But now you can an infinite number of them and now I don't want to purchase any of them whatsoever so now I am stuck with 880.
I love the game though. But I might never get 999. Kind of saddens me.
Christopher Carter
>Everyone wins, except maybe the minority of purist autists who refuse to use store moons and hate hunting for the random ones but still seek 100% completion just to watch numbers go up. this nails it. The type of criticism that OP levies is so stupid

>extra content is bad
Jayden Davis
The only problem I had with the moon distribution was that other than the moonpipe levels (which were all pretty good mind you), the postgame moons were kinda meh. Not terribly harder or more interestingly placed than normal.
