When was the last time you played an MMO with a wonderful community?
Which game was it?

Mabinogi or La Tale, all those years ago.
They don't make'em like they used to.

WoW pre Cata
end of thread, move along

Everquest, circa 1999

no community in any game has ever been wonderful

Not an mmo but I've had decent luck with lads playing Vermintide. All dudes are playing it, so no wonder there.

FF XIV

I'm thinking about trying Mabi or BnS
LOL

>LOL

Nobody ever talks to anyone in that game. I played for a whole month and only met one person.

That's how it is. I used to blame no speech bubbles, but on PSO2 it's the same situation but worse

EVE Online, the whole time I played back in 2004-2010. I've heard things have gone downhill since due to CCP's inexhaustible well of incompetence, but it was still a pretty awesome community. I think that was at least in part due to the fact that everybody was in the exact same universe operating under the exact same (minimal) rules. No sharding or "different server types" or "instances" or other such bullshit, so even with the game's many, MANY flaws the core was fucking awesome and really allowed a very dynamic and invested community. EVE had the "massive" part of "MMO" down in a way few other games have ever even bothered to attempt, which is a real shame. These days the trend seems ever more to be that MMOs are basically glorified 3D lobbies and match making for regular old MP games.

Back when EVE launched I thought the future would be quite different, that by this point we'd consider it pretty quaint because more advanced MMOs would have far larger and more fluid interactions. I appreciated their incredible ambition, but I didn't expect it to be one of the last truly MASSIVE games anybody ever bothered with. I thought we'd have totally different settings and gameplay but with the huge worlds like science fiction (and anime/manga) envisioned. No such luck, which is really a shame.

Someday somebody will give it a go again, and do it well. But it's going to take crazy vision and probably someone independently wealthy.

The MMO genre will never step up again thanks to corporate budgeting and greed

Why is it that interaction between people are so much lower now? Not just in MMOs, but gaming in general.

>tfw stuck with NTR for a few more episodes
>tfw might try to go for a sequel ending and not anime original
I miss old maplestory, though.

I used to interact a lot more when i was younger. Now i just get annoyed by other people.

Maybe its an age thing. I wonder how the younger crowd feel about stuff like this. I assume they're still going off on adventures and getting lost in the game, not worrying about minmaxing and shit.

Everything has been dissected into bite-sized pieces. Jump in, drop out at will. No commitment required. Group quests at low levels? Gone in favor of solo-able theme parks.

Used to be I would find a couple buddies or ask in general chat if I wanted to knock out some group quests in order to finish up a zone. Now that's not around. In fact, that's how my WoW guild began - a group of us who teamed up for a group quest in beta ended up grouping all day through the next zone as well. Guild still exists to this day.

I'm playing ESO for the first time since release and its completely apparent. No reason or need to group with anyone at all. I could be the only one on the server for all it matters.

Maplestory is what made me hate MMOs until recently. I enjoyed it when I was a kid, but shit is it one huge bullshit grind
Also it's not NTR AHHHHHHH

>girl has crush on guy
>guy has crush on girl
>but girl gets snatched away by another guy

He didnt do anything to her but hang out and now they're playing the MMO. If he takes it a few more steps then it'll be NTR. Right now he's just trying to prey on the poor neet

Maplestory is one of those games you would fondly look back to but is actually really bad if you hold it up to scrutiny or compared it to its contemporaries. Fucking used to take me 8 hours to gain a level at level 40-50ish.

>literally asked her out on a date after lusting over her breasts
>she accepted and had fun

Never

Im probably wrong but it looks like Kowai keeps trying to set sakurai up with her what with his multiple invitations for him to literally anything he does with her but Sakurai just sucks at it that much

i played neocron again a couple years ago, the community is still wonderful

the game isn't "documented" on wikis, and all the information on forums about where to go to grind or whatever is 15 years out of date, so you have to ask questions in global chat
and the people in global chat still intentionally mislead you, as they did 15 years ago

Strangely enough the best community I've seen has been for mobile phone games. I played Brave Frontier for a while and for some reason their forums everyone was best friends.

FFXI used to have the best community but it's basically fallen out.

>Kowai keeps bringing up Sakura to her and inviting him to the date
>He joins an mmo she plays then ropes Sakura into playing pretty shortly after
>When talking about her to him, it's in a clearly playful and teasing tone
>Giving off the classic gay josei friend vibe with a red herring love triangle

>Calls her pretty once
NTR NTR NTR NTR

This is precisely what I think. He'll push sakura to where he'll run for mori mori before she's taken by him, which is exactly what he wants to happen

>this discussion
that doesn't sound like an anime about MMO at all

Doesnt make Sakurai less of a worthless beta shitter

>Maybe its an age thing.

Very much so.
I played some AssCreed with this 2004-ish born guy while bored. Booted up the game, he proceeded to run around a bit, battle some guards, steal their money and dispose of the bodies. "Trying to make some money". Doing any of that is an option in AssCreed but it's there for no reason at all. You get almost no money out of it and absolutely no one give s a damn about the dead bodies littering the floor.
It's the sort of stuff we used to do all the time but u possibly cross my mind nowadays.

I did always hear good things about XI
So contribute

>people born in 2004 are 13 now
where the fuck is my apocalypse

But if Sakurai is a cuck Koiwoi gets a sweet piece of ass to raw dog every night.
It's win win really.

Koi would be pleased

FF11 was pretty nice when I played last year, plenty of people would give me help and gear without me asking

EVE still has the best player interaction I've found since communication and teamwork is necessary to do anything more than grind ISK, unlike other MMOs I've tried where the only communication you need is for raid groups

Dream of Mirror Online
It was mega comfy and everyone was helpful and friendly. Now if only the game wasn't such a huge grind.

How is Mabinogi for a beginner today, without spending any dosh?
I want to get catfished but I'm really cheap.

No clue. I played open the NA release for a few years, which was eons ago.

No clue what its like now.

Well this certainly is a game I've never heard of. It does look super comfy

>I want to get catfished
Does this mean what I think it does?

The devs were fun too and had big special events on holidays. Chinese new year had a crazy strong aggro boss monster at each entrance of the main town and people were trying to defeat them all day. Then when it was closing down there was a special fireworks event and people gathered around the town square area and this big elevated circular platform.

The best thing I liked about it was the beginner's item which is basically a giant scroll on your back. I just fucking loved it and it went so well with the rest of the Chinese styling of everything. I miss it yet at the same time I don't because of the grind.

I miss this...

It means I want to enter into an online friendship and/or relationship with a pathological liar. This would allow me to express my deepest darkest fears and desires, without holding back, because such a person would never have the guts to encounter me in real life for fear of their web of lies being exposed.

...

Ah yeah, thats enjoyable

I want to make friends in an online game so badly. I haven't had it happen since I was 13

Making friends on MMOs is what makes the genre redeemable. But it seems like not many people still hold the MMO spirit, meaning they're happy ingame, playing just to have fun. Now it's all a out getting the best gear and doing some erotic roleplay

Koiwai is trying to set them both up. Sakura does not want to try to "steal" her away from his senior coworker (that shit does not fly in Japan.) Especially since Morika is 2 years older than him and Koiwai is 4.
