They're good for small raids. The way they're spaced out means your own guys will zig-zag past them safely.

If FPS death wasn't so common i would play DF more, but making embark small, keeping pop low, watching if i don't own too many cats etc is tedious. But you are right settling someone with no/little resources is !FUN! i like those hobo forts.

What do you lads think of my tundra colony?
It's lowest average temp is -45C and in the summer it goes up to 5C. Instead of relying on hyrdoponics I decided to build some massive well insulated rooms with sunlamps to grow my crops and it seems to be working well.

For defence I have everything except the southern entrance walled off and I have around 25 autoturrets guarding the way in. My biggest problems though are enemies that won't go into my kill box, like mechanoid ships and other nuisances.

How do you recommend I deal with those? Also any general feedback on the colony would be nice

only way to do it sadly, since if you build hydroponics and get a solar flare, you basically lose ALL of your crops that are growing. At least the way you've done it, a campire can keep the temp from bottoming out so the plants can survive until the flare passes.
