How far did you get through the game before you realised that abusing the roll's i-frames to avoid all damage was the correct strategy?
It took me until the Sif fight.

Greatshield Tank build is actually really fucking good in this game
Completely fucks up any of the DLC bosses save Kalameet

It's not abuse, that's how dodging works.

I thought it was obvious from the start.

When I discovered shields didnt protect me from that dragons fire breath.

Shh pcfags who have never played an action game before are used to taking hits and spamming "1" to drink potions.

Not until the DS2 dlc. Blocking is crazy strong in DS1.

Never did. I always relied on my shield and just trying to time dodges right. I don't think I've ever even done a run through the game without at least a shield and medium weight equip load. I prefer the mechanics behind managing stamina through shield use and precise rolls rather than just spamming roll infinitely. It adds a layer of depth to the combat trying to keep track of your stamina use for rolling, blocking, and attacking.

I gave up the game when I couldn't beat O&S

I just used towershields

I just abused poise and summoned when I needed help.
I only recently beat the game without any summons.

PC BTFO

Dark Souls 2 was my first, and I used a Straight sword + Great shield all the way through midway of my NG+ before I swapped to Red Iron Twinblade, and later became a UGS guy in 1 & 3.

it's gets shit after O&S so you're not missing much

Fucks up kalameet too. He doesn't have combos, so you only need to tank 1 hit, or two if you manage to get tagged by the double bite. I couldn't beat kalameet for days, and all advice I saw was go in naked, 2 hand your weapon and roll. When I kept getting fucked that way, I upgraded black iron great shield to +14, threw on upgraded black iron set, and proceeded to block hits no issue, and when I did eat 1, it was always easy to recover. Just played through again this week, doing a lazy turtle run, and kalameet is absolutely no issue this way. The biggest pain is baiting the sitting fire breath to get at the tail for a weapon I never use.

Also, I didn't ever think about upgrading shields until I got stuck on kalameet. That was how I learned that I never have to roll in this game if I don't want to.

>mfw tanking Manus' wombo combo with Artorias Greatshield and barely losing any stamina
I've since stopped using greatshields because they're just too good.

Post-game, I think.
It's one of the reasons my SL1 playthrough was easier than my first playthrough. I knew what to do and was much better at the game by that point.

Wait, no, it couldn't have been that late, because I beat Gwyn without a shield by dodging his attacks. That was fun. I had no idea you could parry him, and I'm shit at parrying anyway, so Gwyn's one of my favorite fights in the game.

As someone who played a lot of Monster hunter:
You dodge to dodge out of the way of attacks
unless you are evasion 3 scum
like me on weapons without shield

>needing evasion+

Wat

In Souls you're encouraged to dodge into attacks since being in a roll animation magically makes you a god for a few milliseconds. In Monster Hunter you have to BE a god in order to utilize any of the iframes without skills that upgrade your evasion, so you actually have to evade away from attacks as opposed to into them.

Nigga I've been dodging into attacks in MH since MH1 on the PS2 what are you on about?
