Probably no, there's always a rise in popularity due to the release of a decent/good WVN, then it dies down and the genre goes back to oblivion
Although the genre has been popularized a little bit with the success of Danganronpa and other recent stuff

I played it with a friend and then with my gf,and I'd recommend it. The beginning is pretty boring as its setting up the characters, but Id say the payoff is worth it.

Hey Sup Forums, how to I get into VN's without diving straight into the weeb-y shit?

The closest I've played PaC adventures like Hotel Dusk, 999, and Another Code: Two Memories and loved all of them.
Also did a joke playthrough of Hatoful Boyfriend with some friends in college and liked it a lot more than I expected to.

You could also try VN games like To the moon or Lisa, but there aren't really that many options so you are probably gonna end in weeb shit sooner or later if you are into the genre in general
