Arma thread

This game worth getting it's on a 66% discount at the moment?
How is performance these days?

Its fun I guess. For a milsim game the engine feels like it doesn't understand how to understand a close quarters fight and everything just feels off in a way. If you have a group to join and do OPs together then yes but as a solo experiance its fucking dull

>How is performance these days?

Performance was never a problem.

How is your toaster these days?

10+ year arma player.

That's horseshit and you know it.

Performance has always been a problem

Depends on what you want to play. If you're gonna play Autism life servers with 80+ players you will get an average 40 fps, ofcourse depends on your computer. If you're playing Something more PvE reliant like Invade & Annex you'll dip in framerate every now and then when alot of NPCs are on the map, one of the more performance heavy gamemodes. If you want to play more PvP stuff like King of the hill you'll get an alright framerate until you hit the town where all the action is at, average around 30 - 40 fps. For Dayz or any other big mods it all comes down to how much shit the server adds.

It all depends on your computer, toasters cannot run arma above 30 fps.

>This game worth getting it's on a 66% discount at the moment?

Depends on what sort of game you're looking for.

I wanted a very realistic milsim and was willing to sacrifice a conventional idea of 'fun' for realism, so ARMA was 100% worth it even at full price.
Getting into a coop group that sets out with these sort of underlying foundations in mind makes it one of the most worthwhile purchases I've ever made. 800 hours later and I'm still enjoying it immensely.

>only 800 hours
Fucking casuals.

Well how many are you up in big boy? 900 here.

16 year arma player, that's horseshit.

Only 1900 hours, I've seen people with way more, like 5k.

Leaving the launcher running doesn't count as playing.

ArmA is a combined ops game that has massive maps and is restricted to practically one CPU core. Plop more than 2 platoon's worth of AI in a combat situation and your performance is GG.

If that's what you want to believe, operatelet.

This. Just go into the editor and try it out for yourself, you will notice the framerate tanking rather fast until most of the AI is dead.

That isn't a "performance problem", that's a reality of the sort of game it is.

Never played any arma games.
Two dumb questions:
Is there decent customization?
How is the mod scene?

Two dumb questions, one simple answer.

Fucking insane.

Oh. Cool. Maybe I'll actually pick this up.

You always start an op an hour early because everyone loves to play dress up at the arsenal.

Followup.
I have maybe one friend who would actually play with me.
How hard is it to find groups or get along with randos?

16gb ram ryzen 1600x and going to get a rx580 soon

>he plays with shactac

I've got 8gbs of ram memory, a r1400 and an RX580. I'm able to run the game on Ultra settings at a consistent 55-60fps. You're good to go m8.

Nice, do you have an ssd? Heard the game needs something like that?

>How hard is it to find groups or get along with randos?

I've always had an absolute blast playing with randoms (mostly Invade and Annex servers in Aus), I imagine the spergy RPG mods/servers might be a little more toxic, but it's always been my experience that it's a pretty chilled and mature community overall with the odd larping faggot.

Just join random servers and their TS until you find one you like. Use the launcher to automatically download all the mods from the workshop.

No, just a regular mechanical WD HDD.

How necessary is the DLC?

It's not because everyone uses custom maps/old ones from past arma games and weapon/vehicle mods that are better than vanilla. Unless you join the boring servers.

not necessary, you can find free mods that give weapons/vehicles that are just as cool if not better, but sometimes the audio and shit is just not as polished because it's a mod. Apex is pretty cool though, esp. when playing it with friends.

Not really worth it. Only one that is kind of worth it is Apex because it adds a new map, some new guns, some new vehicles and a some co-op missions.

>Gtx 1070
>i7 6700k
>16gb of ram

still get like 50 fps in the middle of kavala.

If you dont own the dlc and use some of the weapons it'll start to flash ads in your face while playing.
