Why doesn't Nintendo make powerful hardware anymore?
It's not like they weren't ever capable of doing it. Nintendo could probably develop a better GPU in-house than Nvidia if they really put their mind to it.

Probably because they didn't want to compete with 2 high power consoles that already have a large share of the market. These often also need to sell at a loss.
Nintendo decided to go with various gimicks instead, for better or worse.
Because Nintendo doesn't want to spend 100 million dollars to develop a single game.
...
>It's not like they weren't ever capable of doing it
They really weren't. More powerful consoles existed in every gen Nintendo competed. Nintendo relies on innovation/gimmicks and its world renown franchises to sell their hardware. Back in the day it was more about the library of games, since Nintendo actually had good 3rd party support at one point.
>More powerful consoles existed in every gen Nintendo competed
5th gen?
Wasn't the 3DO the most powerful 5th gen console?
To lower the price of the console, and increase battery life. Which is how the Game Boy crushed the Game Gear in the market. Game Gear games were prettier, but the GG was crazy expensive and slurped battery life like a thot sucks cock.
Not even close, i think the Jaguar was more powerful within the 3DO
Not even close, but it was a lot more powerful than the SNES (4th gen console).
You can argue Nintendo fucked up by using using cartridges for the N64, and then continuing to fuck up by having mini-discs for the gamecube and not being a DVD player, which was a big selling point for the PS2, but Nintendo had also already hurt their image at that point. The only way they would be able to compete is by selling at a loss now, and that's too risky for a company that's solely for video games.
The N64 was an outlier. All of Nintendo's consoles have been underpowered. Look at NES games in the mid-80s and then look at what home computers and arcades were capable of. Guess what sold like gangbusters?
>Nintendo could probably develop a better GPU in-house than Nvidia if they really put their mind to it
lmao no, this isn't the 90s.
Yeah I'm sure the lack of piracy really hurt Nintendo.
except the part where the GC destroys the PS2. Xbox came on the tail end of that gen
>except the part where the GC destroys the PS2
?????
are you posting from bizzaro world
This shit was a 1st year gamecube game:

Sonybros are truly amazing
Nintendo didn't make the GPU in the N64 you fucking idiot, what makes you think they could out do Nvidia?
Because Nintendo is above petty pleb shit like muh graphics.
Stick to your movies, sony baloney.
what's supposed to be impressive about this
wow some giant grey polygon with no animation shoots lasers against a JPEG of a planet in the background
Rogue Leader was amazing for its time and a wonder of optimisation you ignorant fuck.
>No animation
B-wing transforms constantly in that video
Not even talking about
>360º cockpit view in every ship
>Self projected shadows
>Ridiculous polycount amount
>constant 60 motherfucking fps
It blew every everything out of the water when it came out. Only XBOX was above.
>B-wing transforms constantly in that video
wow it's fucking nothing, simplistic mechanical animation, how about damage deformation effects?
>360º cockpit view in every ship
plenty of flight sims even on PS1 had that
>Self projected shadows
there is none, just shadows from a single light source
>Ridiculous polycount amount
cause everything is grey and copy pasted
>constant 60 motherfucking fps
but there's slowdown even in that video
I honestly don't know what game from that age you think did better on ps2.
Jak & Daxter
Silent Hill 2
Metal Gear Solid 2
Balder's Gate Dark Alliance
Zone of the Enders
Ico
Soul Reaver 2
