What makes TF2 so fucking good?
What makes TF2 so fucking good?
It's characters are iconic. It's gunplay feels good.
I might not play it anymore but I'll always remember it.
literally nothing
its timeless
youtube.com
this
time to switch over to the SUPERIOUR CHAD GAME
Would any of the characters hold their own as the star of their own game?
I would probably play a GTA clone starring Tavish Degroot.
It has a very low skill floor and an extremely high skill ceiling. There are classes for all playstyles and types of people. The dev team doesn't listen to the masses of filthy pubshitters when making balance changes, and the balance changes are generally small and not huge kneejerk reactions (this is the most important point)
Depends on the game. A shit game will be a shit game no matter who the main character is.
> fast movement
> gunplay is mainly single shot high risk high damage weapon use
> everything is easy to see and easy to understand unlike overwatch's clusterfuck design, even with the most ludicrous looking hats
> map making, custom servers, and workshop items ensure it has a long lifespan compared to blizzard acting as a central planner for everything and stifling new ways to play
I hate blizzard
Movement and shooting feel GUD
>CHAD GAME
>died in less than an eighth of the time TF2 has lived
>The dev team doesn't listen to the masses of filthy pubshitters when making balance changes
>Every single patch that is released indirectly nerfs spy in some way (cosmetics, spawn wallhacks, new fall damage yells even while cloaked)
It use to be good. Characters and writing carried the charm, while gameplay use to drive interest. Then Valve decided to stop doing anything since they realized people would give them money no matter what they do and so they it fall into obscurity, only bothering to update once FANS made enough content or to avoid a lawsuit.
>Implying you need anything more than core TF2 gameplay
16 player arena servers, no_crit, no_spread
;_;
just go to skial and vote to turn off crit/spread
>sitting in an empty custom maps servers and remembering all those comfy maps and incredible community
>everyone always using voice chat and actually playing the game
>pubstompers far and few between since there weren't esteban.huenzuales2003s to feed them and fill their frag videos
>long stalemates at the final point all the time because people would resort to dm'ing before getting serious again for one last push
>tfw no more cp_warpath
>tfw no more cp/ctf_convoy
>tfw no more cp_roswell
>tfw no more pl_cranetop
>tfw no more ctf_stronghold
>tfw no more ctf_mach2
>tfw no more week-long games of toyfort
>tfw no more map rotations
>tfw no more sitting on a server for hours enjoying map after map while forming rivalries and making friends
>died in less than an eighth of the time TF2 has lived
Overwatch is still alive. TF2 lasted barely a year before Valve killed it.
>no_crit, no_spread
Damn son, you casual as fuck
The day they remove the Soldier class I'll give it a chance again. How people pretend is well balanced compared to the other classes is beyond me.
>TF2
>fast movement
I'm literally angry
I actually got this to work one time
>Team is retarded
>We're getting spawncamped
>I'm playing spy
>Run past them
>Stab the one sniper by the cart
>Hop on it and disguise as friendly heavy
>Scout who was nearby comes to defend it
>"HIDE COWARDS!"
>He runs away
Congrats, you got that exactly backwards.
It's objectively fast compared to modern shooters.
>b-but quake!
Just because there exists something faster doesn't mean it's not fast.
WE
...
Scout = River City Ransom, but fast.
Heavy = DOOM, but with the BFG at all times.
Soldier = ???
Sniper = Sniper Elite, but with a New Zealander instead of American.
Pyro = ???
Engineer = Besiege, but with more turrets.
Spy = Spy vs Spy, but red vs blu.
Demoman = Bomberman 3D Because Demoman can't see 3D properly
Medic = Surgeon Simulator. 1:1 replica.
This is the most reddit post I've seen all month
>Soldier = ???
Gee, I wonder.
wtf user this is a blue board you can't post penises here
ride the rocket, bby
are you kidding?
basically all the nerfs they've ever done have been due to mass public peer pressure
axetinguisher never deserved to get nerfed, and neither did demoman really.
REEEEEeee
why are these same shitty webms always posted
its a not good FPS, if you dont get borner from amount of action included
Wrong.
>great memorable characters with tons of personality, shit they say is still funny 10 years later
>good non rock paper scissors gameplay unlike a certain other game
...
Good feeling balanced movement and combat, stupidly high skill ceiling, amazing community and art style/feel, easy to learn but hard to master.
>no more pl_cranetop
It hurts.
>When you learn the trick to build a teleporter on top of spawn and become the undisputed King of Toyfort
>no more cp_warpath
>no more ctf_mach2
convoy still gets played occasionally but killing community servers was the worst mistake the TF team ever made
can i get back into tf2 without spending gorillions of dollars go catch up with the meta?
Stock is still mostly supreme, there's very few unlocks that are actual upgrades.
Even then, you can buy it all with metal or trading weapons 1:1.
Sooo you're saying that if rocketjump didn't damage you, you could boost trough many places on the map?
good to know, good to know..
Fucking retard
t. Never seen or played comp in his life
>What is overheal
>What are gunboats
>What are medpacks
Oh no, I got to mid 20 seconds faster with only 170-235 HP!
What about
>PBPP
>Atomizer
>Gunboats
>Escape plan
>Scorch shot
>Powerjack
>Sandvich
>GRU
>Wrangler
>Rescue ranger
>Xbow
>Ubersaw
>Jarate
>Machina
>Bushwhacka
i think lazypurple made a nice argument on the matter
>tl;dr
good movements mechanics working alongside great shooting mechanics, the movement allows you to position and shoot better, the shooting allows you to move better
also many of the weapons are high damage single shot affairs, meaning every shot is important and you have to make it count, a miss or near miss means the enemy gets very little or 0 damage, but a good meatshot can down the enemy in a couple of shots
youtube.com
as far as multiplaya games go, TF2 is one of the best designed ones, i only wish they got rid of random crits, goddamn idiots had to ruin it
You don't NEED factory fresh strange unusual australium weapons, you know.
Even if you're willing to spend money for the weapons (which you shouldn't), all you'd need to do is buy one key and then trade that for metal which you can then use to buy every single weapon in the game.
>Scorch shot
No shotgun puts you at a disadvantage against other Pyros, Demoknights and Danger Shield Snipers
>Jarate
One use, slow recharge, remove ability to tank damage from shields/camper or deal chip damage
>Machina
Gives away your position to everyone, can't panic shoot without scoping
>Bushwhacka
Useless without Jarate
Buy one key and you can afford literally every functionally unique weapon.
>PBPP
Not a direct upgrade but definitely overpowered in the right hands
>Atomizer
Not seen very often and fairly situational especially after the nerf, pick Boston Basher instead to build uber
>Gunboats
Absolutely, unless you're pocket
>Escape plan
Absolutely
>Scorch shot
Situational but I prefer over flare gun
>Powerjack
Absolutely, with Homewrecker on defense
>Sandvich
Absolutely, but banana may be better now
>GRU
More situational than it used to be, this and fists of steel are the way to go
(fun fact, if you overheal before pulling out fists and they don't drop the beam, you maintain the overheal despite the nerf)
>Wrangler
Engineer and Spy both benefit heavily from variety at any given moment, so you want most of their unlocks
>Rescue ranger
Absolutely, see above
>Xbow
One of the only direct upgrades in the game. NEVER swap this out
>Ubersaw
Absolutely, though vitasaw actually has uses now
>Jarate
Situational, good in areas but I personally prefer SMG as a human aimbot
>Machina
Good for pubs, I run stock all day
>Bushwhacka
Situational, I run stock
Note that even all the above only costs 7.5 scrap.
Don't buy a key, just play the game for like 3 days and you'll get plenty of drops to trade for most of what you want/need. All weapon trades are 1:1.
Alot of good cosmetics is only 1-3 ref
You can get some pretty good shit for all the classes for 1 key
True but he's asking about weapons my dude
1. Stock weapons are mostly all still great and viable options
2. Lots of weapons can be gained via achievements that are easy to grind for or cheat your way around if you don't feel like waiting
3. You also get weekly random drops
4. Any weapon can easily be traded for any other weapon, excluding rare cosmetics like golden pan and kill streak variants and shit
Getting from zero to having all the weapons you actually want shouldn't take more than a week or two
yes I know look at any of my posts
>No shotgun puts you at a disadvantage against other Pyros, Demoknights and Danger Shield Snipers
None of these things matter when flamethrower does 325dps
>One use, slow recharge
Has an enormous splash radius, fucks over spies, can extinguish teammates, can win an entire teamfight if you land it on the combo. Guaranteed crits with bushwhacka.
>Gives away your position to everyone
Doesn't mean jack shit. Snipers always sit it in the same spots and no other class can contest sniper at a distance. Good snipers can headshot at close range.
>Useless without Jarate
Forgetting about the carbine?
>Not a direct upgrade
You trade 3 bullets for heals at any distance and higher burst damage. It's broken.
>Not seen very often and fairly situational
Let's you get to places you otherwise couldn't and replaces a shitty weapon. Basher jumps cost health in comparison and uber building is only needed at small player counts.
>Situational
Free 80 damage on groups that cripples heals WITH knockback is situational? Why use anything else? Hitting people with this is braindead easy.
NEED
>You trade 3 bullets for heals at any distance and higher burst damage. It's broken.
Doesn't mean much if you need the reliability that more bullets grants you. Most comp players still run stock for this reason.
>Let's you get to places you otherwise couldn't and replaces a shitty weapon
Surprisingly not as useful as you'd think. Basher has higher potential with medic synergy.
>Free 80 damage on groups that cripples heals WITH knockback is situational? Why use anything else? Hitting people with this is braindead easy.
I don't know which weapon you're referring to here, scorch shot? Like I said I prefer it over flaregun but its usefulness is diminished outside of pubs where everyone holds W through the chokepoint.
>not using hats as a defensive weapon to throw off a sniper's headshot aim
fuck off monoculus
>disguise as "friendly" heavy on my team
>backstab people that let me go
>they start killing him on sight and he starts whining in chat
I'm growing old and stupid, is this a photoshop or an actual comic,? If it's an actual one, what's the punchline?
2 spies disguised as heavy and medic to make the enemy soldier run away
It's more a tutorial than a joke
DISPENSERS
Could have used some more smoke, but yeah, see it now.
Thanks.
do you have kritz, gunboats, escape plan, wrangler, sandvich and ubersaw? congrats you got the "straight upgrades" and most essential sidegrades covered. achievement items.
got quickfix, crossbow, jag, rescue ranger, powerjack, gunslinger and one of the +speed heavy melees too? you're totally set
throw in boston basher and maybe pain train if you're a compboy, and rent the iron bomber for demo to see if you prefer it over stock
>competitive tf
Did they actually kill community/non-valve servers?
move crossbow up to essential and this guy pretty much got it. jarate in the second group too.
>kritz
>straight upgrade
>crossbow isn't straight upgrade
>QUICKFIX
lmao @ ur life
I wish community servers weren't dead. Matchmaking can be good for some things but these days between that and the push for competitive esports community servers might as well be gone.
yes. At best you can find 24/7 goldrush/2fort full server. Everything else is trade
>straight upgrades AND most essential sidegrades
hmmmm
you're right about the crossbow though
>killing community servers was the worst mistake the TF team ever made
quickfix is a fucking baby-tier medigun, gets outclassed by all the others.
>competitive ow
Post your favorite loadout
...
>that deflection
I like to hang out on Indian PL server and i don't remember ever playing goldrush there.
Marketplace sells each weapon at jus 1 cent. You can get all weapons inmediatly for less than half a dollar, with no trade bs.

I never was a furry, but their wacky server was the best back then.
marketplace.tf
Multiple ways of playing each character while rarely giving objective upgrade weapons
Characters are very distinctive at a glance
Has something for all skill levels
Is fast paced, and you can pick up and play any game at any time
Multiple ways of breaking deadlocks
Drip feed new content to prevent constant boom and bust playerbase
Variety of character lines can surprise and entertain you even after a long time playing
fucking perfect
>(((marketplace.tf)))
This is what's so magical about TF2, you can have all these goofy interactions with other players at any time. You don't get that shit in games like CoD/BF or Overwatch.
>Red heavy turns into red spy
???
you can disguise as an ally in TF2
you can disguise as teammates
is this new? I havn't played in years
